MIXEL  No real problems with it! I'm running the latest version and have been running it in one form or another since I got my RevA Macbook over a year ago.

Only time I had any issues at all were when I was trying experimental Vista stuff which seems ironed out now anyway. I've never seen a kernel panic, and it's never damaged my bootcamp partition. And I use it almost every day.. Hmm.

MIXEL  Talk about a load of old stick-in-the-muds.. :)

I've not had any issues with 6, and it's functionally not that different to 5 - I mean, these are minor interface things & rearrangement which shouldn't take more than a few minutes of adjustment.

If anything it would benefit from more radical change.. But enough people have made that point already!

The main thing I'd like to see is buffing up of the edit features - the framework is all there.. All it needs is a few tweaks and added features and GC would be excellent for pixel graphics (once you can manipulate layers & animation frames better)

Lemke seem right to concentrate on the conversion features - it does incredibly well for that, but I've converted everything I have now, so better image creation would be nice too. ;)

Pixen seems dead.. If GC could pick up the "affordable pixel graphics app" flag that would really be something. :)

MIXEL  Desperately need either a UB update or a fix for the Intel graphics refresh problems. I really want to buy this, but don't want to be locked into using my old hardware. :(

Adobe Photoshop CS4
Dec 16 2006

MIXEL  Well.. WOW. Finally after 2 CS versions which had little to no features that helped me over those in 7, along comes CS3 (well, almost!) which tonnes of stuff I *really* wanted.

Universal is a biggie, but there are a load of other things too like a nice new selection system. A definite update for me. :)

MIXEL  Erp. Does anyone have a URL for the Parallels tools for Bootcamp? In the readme it says to download it from their page from within XP and I can't find it..

I deleted my file-based VM to use the Bootcamp mode and save HD space. Oops. :D

MIXEL  To be fair you're just one of a few people who seems to have problems - just because you do doesn't mean anyone else is going to..

It works beautifully for me with XP, so I don't know why I'd write anything but a positive comment. :)

Smultron better icons
Nov 20 2006

MIXEL  Excellent. Maybe if enough people download this Smultron's creator will at least give people this option in the preferences.. And maybe acknowledge that his icons are a bit off.

Even if these aren't resolution independant, they're a lot prettier.. And more importantly, they look like icons which belong in an osX application.

Speed Download
Oct 12 2006

MIXEL  I love this.. It really has sped up my downloads dramatically (on a 1MB cable connection)

For those who want a simpler download window - I don't see why the app doesn't let you disable the left hand column.. I have many of the features turned off so i don't really need it there. (is there some way to disable it which I've missed?)

Other than that though I can't think what else I'd change.

MIXEL  Well.. Wow! What an odd update. The only thing which concerns me as a negative is the interface. Looking a little weird now! I miss the aqua scrollbars etc, but I'll reserve judgement until I see where Apple's going with this.

I've not had any of the problems others are mentioning, it's not lagging.. No redraw or masking problems.. The cover views rocket along even on a lowly 64mb geforce 5200 here.. All round I'm impressed.. The new views and gapless playback are really nice.

This is on a system with loads of other apps running, photoshop included. G5 dual 1.8ghz 2GB ram..

I definitely think it's worth the upgrade - don't be put off without trying it yourself first.. :)

MIXEL  I had been using Audacity, but was getting tired of buggy behaviour. Most notably, it only loaded 1 in about 15 times I ran it..

Taking advantage of the 1 day MU deal.. $50 seems a good price really. :)

NONSOLOMAC  Oh, nooooo!!!! Now Pitch & Tempo filter just works fine but you can only change pitch OR tempo, we lost the 'normal' pitch change WITH TEMPO ALTERATION, the same effect all DJs are used to with vinyl records turntables! Please give us back that feature!!! Pleeeeeeease!!!!!!

MIXEL  "Small apps should always be free"

Umm.. No. Nobody should be expected to work for free. Sometimes it's nice if they do, but if an app is good they should be able to ask for payment. This doesn't strike me as that small anyway.. Has taken the developer some time to get it this nice, and it does a lot of stuff.

MIXEL  How many apps will convert something with multiple layers into something else with multiple layers anyway?

An app isn't garbage just because it doesn't do what one user wants it to, nor is it garbage if someone can't work out how to use it. I've never had problems with GC's usability.

Exegesis
Feb 15 2006

MIXEL  Takes aaaages to load on dual G5.. Could have gone out and converted a few people in the time it took to load. ;)

Not sure about the smacking people with holy sword stuff.. And, the whole thing seems cludgy... Jerky, badly presented and not particularly playable

"Take what you've learned in Exegesis and apply it to the real world" - umm.. Yeah. All in all this is one of the worst advertisements for Christianity I've seen for a while.

MIXEL  1 star? Come on people.. Don't you check a product's site before testing it? If you had you'd see this isnt a simple map drawing package.. You're giving it one star because you couldn't work it out in the few minutes you used to "test" it and lost patience. Then you looked for flaws. RTFM. >.<

The target audience is RPers, and often you need a lot of detailed maps. Graphic Converter is not a solution to the problem at all. Typical tabletop RPers are used to reading heavy manuals, so this is no big deal. It's complicated because it's powerful and flexible.

This app seems great for what it's intended, and any serious role-player would see it's value - the maps aren't ugly, it lets you edit the graphics! I've only used it for less than an hour and am seriously considering purchase for a campaign world and setting for stories I'm writing. $34 isn't too much for something as specialised as this, what else are you going to use? Nothing else on the mac does this stuff (that I'm aware of!)
