MINER I am a fan of ConceptDraw MindMap. And don't let comments scare you, the app has been vastly improved over the last major releases. (Version 1.4.1)

Tri-BACKUP | Sep 21 2009 |
MINER Nice comment, I also use SuperDuper, but that is a bit of a sublime one-trick pony which I use for cloning. And I use Synk Pro for synchronization, for which it is superb. Tri-BackUp is substantially more versatile than either, which comes at the price of complexity. But for Backup I rely on TBU! A comment that product A is very good adds very little to assess the merits of product B, imo. (Version 5.2.1)

Apple Java for OS X 10.5 | Feb 13 2009 |
MINER PPC Linux 9 (at least the most recent Fedora, which is the biggest supported PPC-distro I think) is worse; I cannot get ThinkFree Office installed at all, no matter what I try. Also some java-web apps do not work. For PPC, OS X is still the most versatile, even with these limitations. (Version Update 3)

MINER Latest v1.08 is much improved. For me it is, anyway, on a PowerBook and a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.5.6 (Version 1.0.7)

MINER Was not obvious for me from the information on the site, but once the Demo is installed, it does accept my valid v4 serial number. Good to have an update. Pity it is so late in the game, as I has switched to another app already when I went Intel. (Version 4.5.0.5)

Osk | Oct 1 2008 |
MINER Apart from the quality of Osk itself, the support from the developer is exceptional. I had a registration issue with the license I bought yesterday, and the iterative response process went at near on-line chat speed. And it resulted in an update to the application the same evening/night. And all of that on the day app was the MUPromo, so I assume there was a lot of working in responding and sending out serial numbers. Again: exceptional! (Version 4.51.1)

Outspring Mail | May 6 2008 |
MINER I agree that in the current state the product is expensive. That said, I am still looking for a strong IMAP e-mail client, Thunderbird or Apple Mail don't fit it yet. PowerMail would be great, but that has no IMAP to speak of. Outspring is fast, clever (that brain works), and has a nice and ambitious plan ahead. It is my daily mailer right now, and whenever there is a quirk, their response it timely, to the point, and helpful. I think the product will be great, and I made the switch now to be there. (Version 1.0.4)

MINER "Nighthawk when it becomes available" Nighthawk IF it becomes available. Paid for the upcoming upgrade over a year ago, and not even a beta in sight. Everybody may grunt over Chronos, but their product is here, and steadily improved. (Version 7.0.2)

VMware Fusion | Apr 24 2008 |
MINER I own license to both too. To be fair: Parallels in its current incarnation is quite good, but indeed the first version 3 releases were horribly buggy. Fusion is robust, no frills, steady performer. It also has a broader compatibility with Linuxes. (Version 1.1.2)

I paid for the upgrade, to allow the company actually making Nighthawk a product. Did that yippee a year ago and fell thoroughly yippee ripped off now. (Version 5.3.1)

StoryMill | Apr 17 2008 |
MINER Everyone writes in is own way, there is no single solution that fits all. I own Scrivener, WriteRoom, Ulysses and Storymill, and use them all, for different kinds of projects or different stages in a project (although Ulysses seems to fade to the background). StoryMill absolutely has its merits, but like any of these apps: give it some time to really try. (Version 3.0.2)

ConceptDraw MINDMAP | Feb 11 2008 |
MINER Have you actually looked at a recent version of MINDMAP before you posted this? Hideous? Nonsense! True Cocoa-style app nowadays. If this is hideous, OS X is hideous. Fiddly? I don't think so, but that is more personal perhaps. For me this app is much more intuitive than NovaMind or Xmind, but that is personal of course. (Version 5.3.2)

ConceptDraw MINDMAP | Nov 16 2007 |
MINER With the update to version 5 and the subsequent edition, CD MindMap has become a full, uncompromised Mac program. Powerful, easy to use, and for me much more intuitive than NovaMind. I own licenses to both, but CD MindMap is the one I always use. (Version 5.2.2)

Opal | Oct 10 2007 |
MINER I kept Classic running to allow me to work with Acta for quite some time. With the move to Intel I started to work with OmniOutliner, sometimes BrainForest. Opal is Acta all over again: focus, focus, focus. With its current OPML capabilities it is a strong contender to get OmniOutliner out my Dock again. An app like this should have no learning curve whatsoever, and Opal delivers there. (Version 1.0.9)

MINER I am looking for a replacement for the aging but trusted Kaleidagraph. I know this is not a one-on-one replacement, but it would fit my current needs: less science, more business. I'll try a couple of hours and then decide whether or not to buy. (Version 1.4.8)

ConceptDraw Project | Mar 6 2007 |
MINER I started using this app at v2. Like all ConceptDraw, the underlying concept is well executed, but the cross platform nature of the app does show up at the UI. This version 3 is however a major leap forward in UI goodness (and I keep underestimating how important that is to me). One killer feature that kept me with CD Project, in v2, is that a Project file can be a small bundle of projects, each of which can be represented in a all encompassing project, but which keeps tracking subprojects clean. The big plus with CD is that activities from different projects in the bundle can be linked to each other in the encompassing project. Difficult to explain, but unique for this program as far as I know. Unfortunately the upgrade to v3 has temporarily disabled this feature, but CS Odessa ensured me it will return in an update. Responsive support, too, especially on their forum. (Version 3.1)
