MARTIN FUHRER  When performing some CPU intensive tasks on my Powerbook, I like to keep the processor setting on high, but afteward like to switch back to automatic or else I find the fan powers up more frequently. Going into System Preferences, choosing Energy Saver, clicking on Options, and then selecting the processor performance is a bit of a cumbersome process. This menulet lets me switch processor settings with two quick clicks. I also get to see what current the processor setting is with a quick glance to the menu bar. Very nice!

MARTIN FUHRER  Unfortunately, changes in the way iPhoto 5 manages photos have required the use of GUI scripting, which means background usage is not possible when removing originals. The Read Me file (see section "On iPhoto 5, Originals, and GUI Scripting") discusses in detail why I had to make use of GUI scripting. I have sent several bug reports and feature requests to Apple to provide more Applescript "hooks" in iPhoto so that I can do away with GUI scripting and make iPhoto Diet work in the background again. Note that iPhoto Diet will still work in the background if you are using iPhoto 4 or earlier (these libraries had a simpler structure than iPhoto 5 libraries).

MARTIN FUHRER  Are you using Jaguar (Mac OS X 10.2)? This may be a variable/subroutine naming conflict caused by the older version of Applescript in Jaguar. In any case, see if iPhoto Diet 3.0.2 fixes it (I'll release it later tonight).

MARTIN FUHRER  If you are encountering "alias" errors or if iPhoto Diet is stalling with a "Starting diet" message, please download iPhoto Diet 3.0.1 and follow the instructions in the Read Me file under the heading "What if I encounter problems?" I have not yet been able to reproduce these problems, but the information generated by the iPhoto Diet 3.0.1 console messages and logs will help me to track down the source of the problem.

MARTIN FUHRER  iPhoto Diet 2.2 or earlier remove movie files and RAW images from your iPhoto 5 library folder. In addition, while removing originals, iPhoto Diet 2.2 would confuse iPhoto 5's database. If you upgrade to iPhoto 5.0.1 (even if you had run iPhoto Diet 2.2 with iPhoto 5.0), the database issue is for the most part resolved, thanks to a bug fix from Apple. See the section "On iPhoto 5, Originals, and GUI Scripting" in the Read Me file for more information.

MARTIN FUHRER  Fabulous app! Within an hour of installing Quicksilver, it had already become a natural part of my workflow. For people who love to keep their hands on their keyboard, I haven't yet come across a more effective way to switch apps, open documents, load webpages, retrieve addresses, and perform countless other tasks offered by the ever-growing collection of plugins. Why wait for Spotlight in Tiger, when a potentially more powerful and robust tool already exists for Panther?
