I love Interarchy 8, but version 9's added features just don't seem to justify the upgrade price for me--particularly not given that the upgrade price for Interarchy is the same as the price to buy a full license of a comparable product like Panic's Transmit.

It'd be nice if you actually said what LMU and SMS are.

I know of SMS as cell phone text messages, but clearly that's not the case here.

I'm afraid I don't have any Intel Macs. The source code is available, if someone wants to build an Intel binary.

I don't use StuffIt format. The info-mac archive decided on their own to unpack and repack the software; complain to them.

Disk Utility does AES encrypted volumes, and is free with OS X, so all this really gives you is Blowfish. The other encryption algorithms it provides are insecure enough that you may as well not bother.

OK, there's a bad bug in 1.4. Wait for 1.4.1, which I'll release as soon as possible.

There's a button on the options dialog that'll take you to a web site that has a link to the source code, design notes, and so on. Or you can follow the link in the description here on MacUpdate, or you can check your local info-mac archive mirror.

I can answer that one. Your USB converter runs at 48kHz, but RAW writes the AIFF file header for a 44.1kHz file whatever the real sample rate is. It's a bug in RAW. Myself, I wrote a quick program to fix it...

The big thing Liquid Ledger does that Quicken can't handle at all is multiple currencies. If you need that feature, the choice (as far as I know) comes down to Liquid Ledger or Moneydance.

I picked Liquid Ledger, as the interface is just so much nicer. It obeys the Cocoa human interface guidelines, and a great deal of care has obviously been put in to make sure things are done in a direct way. Want to rename an account? Just double-click and type the new name, and it updates everywhere instantly. Want to undo something? Infinite undo, with descriptions of what it's going to undo each time. Want to focus on a particular expense? Slide out the accounts and click that expense account, just like choosing a folder in Apple Mail.

I did experience one crash attempting to import data--but I was attempting to import HTML as if it was OFX. Oops. Since I got all my data in, it's been fine.

If your requirements are fairly standard--banking, savings, a few shares and some real-estate--Liquid Ledger is well worth a look. I managed to find a downloadable demo, which they seem not to publicize.

I've tried most of the "thumbnail browser" programs, including iView MediaPro and the browse features of Graphic Converter and Photoshop Elements, and I still keep using QPict.

The batch processing is excellent for adding metadata to scanned photos, and it's robust enough to deal with tens of thousands of images. Best of all, it's drag-drop simple to use, and doesn't demand the right to rearrange my folders of photos the way iPhoto does.

The newer versions add the "dynamic zoom" of iPhoto, too. You'll need something else for cropping and adjusting your photos, but QPict is a great way to organize and browse them.

Finally, the speed of an interpreted scripting language, with the sophistication and ease of use of C. What could be better?

Until someone writes an x86 assembler interpreter for scripting, this product will be unbeatable.

I haven't seen the glEnableClientState error on any machine I've tested it on. If you're getting that error, please e-mail me a summary of what kind of Mac you have, and what sort of graphics card. Also, say in the e-mail if you'd be willing to help track down what's causing the error. My guess is that there's an OpenGL feature I'm using that's not supported on all Macs.

Regarding the "CPU hog" comment, it's not the CPU that's heating up, it's your graphics chip. Nothing I can do about that--3D graphics chips run hot. That's why the ones in tower G4s have their own fans.

1.2 has many more trails, which will hopefully please people.

Be aware that picking the most strips won't necessarily result in the screen filling up. A better way to do that is to have fewer strips, but make them drift slower. (Or even set the velocity to zero in 1.2.)

As for the complaint about the text being pixilated... dude, have you even seen the movie?

I bought Interarchy, but I'm not paying $25 for an upgrade to get bug fixes and features I don't want when I could buy Transmit for that price.

In addition, the new "no demo" decision means I would never have bought it in the first place.

There's a lot of stuff in Interarchy that's just too awkward to use. For instance, given a list of URLs, it ought to be easy to download those files in turn, one by one. Sure, Interarchy can do it, but you try working out how.

Having said all that, it's still the most reliable and speedy download client.

The URL of xirtam is on the About page for Red Pill.

Can't fix performance for a bronze PowerBook--those machines don't have hardware accelerated 3D under OS X. Ditto first generation iMacs and beige G3s.

I'll have to see if I can up the polygon count some for the next release.

The installer's broken--it requires write access to the OS Library folders. I want to install it in my personal ~/Library folder, like Arkaos and G-Force.

The gem of notepad applications. A clean, simple Cocoa Aqua interface, and it's resisting the feature creep that has destroyed the beauty software like Jotz. (A mail application built in to your notepad? Why?!) Nice price, too.

Up to version 1.5 already? Hmm, someone needs to write an application which will download the current version of this application each night, and install it...
