MESADYNAMICS  As the current engine was a bit outdated (and only functions somewhat reliably with AllTheWeb), we've completely rewritten Beholder from scratch. The first public release of this new version (Beholder 3.0a1) is now available. Though it is not yet feature complete, it does once again fully support Google image search, and will eventually include the oft-requested "sort by size" feature (probably in 3.0a2).

When the final version of Beholder 3.0 is released, it will be a free upgrade for all current registered users, and will remain at its $19.95 price for new users.

MESADYNAMICS  Are you up to date on all your 10.3.9 updates (via Software Update)? Some users have had similar troubles go away after updating Java.

MESADYNAMICS  4. How is Amnesty different from Dashboard's "dev mode"?

The "dev mode" is simply a trick to move Dashboard's widgets onto the desktop, where they remain floating over all your windows. You still have to go to the Dashboard to open and close new widgets.

Amnesty is a full-featured Dashboard emulator that offers expanded widget features way beyond what is possible in Dashboard.

MESADYNAMICS  That's not quite accurate. Amnesty allows you to set the window level for any widget on the desktop, and Amnesty Singles allows you to fully run any widget as an individual application. So, we would argue that this capability is in fact not in Tiger.

Apple's Dictionary widget should work with Amnesty 1.2, so it sounds like Amnesty's preferences for this widget have been corrupted (Amnesty keeps separate preferences for each widget). You can reset any widget's preferences by making sure the widget is close closed (i.e. no check or dash next to its name in the Amnesty menu) and then holding down SHIFT+OPTION while you select the widget from the Amnesty menu. This will open the widget with all preferences reset. Hopefully, this should take care of your Dictionary problem.

MESADYNAMICS  Jordan, you're one of many people who seem to think Amnesty is nothing more than widgets on the desktop. We've tried to let the world know all the extensive features in Amnesty, so perhaps we have more work to do in our marketing efforts.

The "dev mode" trick is nice, but widgets remain floating over all your windows in your desktop and you still have to interact with Dashboard to open new widgets.

Amnesty gives you:

- widgets selectable from the system menu

- multiple Dashboards, hot-keyable

- widget window levels & opacity

- widget scaling & rotation

- Panther support for many widgets

Worth $20? Not to everybody for sure, but for lots of people it apparently is.
