MARK97  I bought an upgrade to 2.0 some time ago. I believe I paid like $19.00 for it after the discount. I don't understand all the turmoil. I will be upset if the so called upgrade price is cheaper then what they charged a couple of months ago.

MARK97  I've used this app since it was Stickybrain 2 and this is the best version yet. This one seems to be more bullet proof than either version 6 or 7. Thus far it has fully worked for me and I've had no issues at all. This is huge for me as I had a lot of problems with previous editions. Maybe this rewrite fixed a lot of my bugs.

I also use DevonThink and Bento. I keep coming back to SohoNotes. Thus far it seems to be working better than ever, but we'll see. The only reason I gave them another chance was their offer of getting iClipboard for free.

Paperless
Sep 25 2009

MARK97  I own several Mariner products, MacJournal, Paperless and MacGourmet Deluxe. I like their apps, but they lack speedy support. There is no reason that paperless should be finally partially updated a month after the release of Snow.

It's plainly obvious that Mariner's office apps are nearly dead. The world has moved on. The world will move on from the rest of the catalog unless Mariner gets it together and brings their speciality apps up to date before inventing new ones. I like Paperless, but I shouldn't have to wait this long for a partial maintenance upgrade. They should be all over this stuff putting out solid apps. Currently the only app that is really solid is MacJournal.

DASEIN888  Yeah, MacJournal is well-executed and represents what Mariner is capable of, but the rest of the new batch epitomises mediocrity, not best in class. That's what they should be seeking.

I really want to like and support Mariner, but each time I hold my breath and buy another one of their products, I am once again disappointed with the sloppiness. Mariner needs to focus like a laser and ensure that a perception of excellence is what one feels when using their products. I use to get that but now it's the last thing that comes to mind.

MARK97  Why would I be kidding? I just want to know what the price is.

WIGHTA Actually, Jim Neumann did not write that I got it wrong but rather that other upgraders might have different experiences, i.e. prices could be different for different upgraders on other occasions, and that my description was not an official statement from Ironic Software. Both points are perfectly reasonable IMHO. It would seem that they wish to retain the option of some component of dynamic pricing of upgrades whilst deflecting any frivolous potential litigation by silly people.

Recently I purchased an application and within a couple of days the company offered the same product for a much lower price. Fortunately the company was very, very, honorable and refunded the difference, but I've been stuck before by companies who didn't fully consider the ramifications of upgrade pricing.

MARK97  So if we upgrade now for the $14.00 and the price goes down, do we get a refund. On the other hand if the price goes up will we be billed. I ask because I was offered a coupon as soon as I tried to buy an upgrade.

I believe in supporting the authors of the apps I use especially this one. I hope clarification happens soon.

MARK97  My problem is that the upgrade fee is reduced if you buy sight unseen. I've been with this app since StickyBrain 2 and while it's had its problems and customer service is the best, it has worked. I guess the thing I like the best is the contextual menus the best. If DevonThink Pro had them it would be open and shut.

MARK97  I'm torn. I have to make a decision, between updating and using DevonThink Pro. There are some great things about both, but I don't need multiple packages doing the same thing.

What do you think?

LEE123  I think I am going to wait to see soho 8 and probably switch to that when I get the funds. I like devonthink ok and it has served me well over the years but I really liked soho when I tried it.

MARK97  I've been looking forward to an upgrade for a while. Before I begin though, I want to know what the upgrade fee is. If I can't afford the upgrade why get excited and play with it?

MARK97  I may be wrong but the limited install is for that version. Each time the version is updated so is your number of installs. If you need to install it more than five time there is probably a problem the developer can help you handle.

I think you've blown this way out of proportion.

XMIND

MARK97  I use XMIND Pro 08 and love it. I looked at XMIND 3 and decided to back away. If or when my 08 version breaks, I will probably move to one of the “big boys” even though it will cost me more money. I don't subscribe to software. The 08 versions still works great and does everything I need. It doesn't work and play as well with other as I would wish, but at least I have something to show for my investment.

Subscribing to software, like music, is a suckers bet.

MARK97  I found this little app and started using it to help me catalog all the files on my drives. I like it because it does one thing and does it well. The price is also right!

My favorite feature, the drop zone on the right side of the screen was my favorite feature ( which appears to have been removed from version 1.1). It allowed you to drag a file to it and add tags. You can do the same by dragging an item to the icon, but I like the tab better.

This app has a lot of promise and I look forward to watching it develop. I would suggest they change the preferences to allow the drop zone to be turned on or off so that everyone is happy.

MARK97  I like where this application seems to be heading. It seems like Macs may finally get a really good GTD app.

Right now is really flakey on a MacBook Pro and definitely not ready for prime time. It hangs and the documentation doesn't seem to be complete. I've had to force quit it a few times. It's not ready for most users, but those who try it will be impressed.
