MAHOJAS  The best application for managing my ebooks on my iPhone that I have seen so far. Praise for the developers for their work and constant updating.

Stumbi
Sep 8 2009

MAHOJAS  As stated on the developer's page, this plugin works with Safari running in 32bit Snow Leopard mode, but this is only a temporary partial fix.

I tried this and it works, however the "customize toolbar" pane will only show the Stumbi buttons, which then can be dragged to the toolbar. Because I had already configured all the toolbar buttons I need ( e.g. print, fill forms, home, etc.) in Safari before I installed Stumbi, I can live with that until the next version comes out.

If I want to switch back to the original "customize toolbar" pane with all the options like home, print, address bar & so on, so I can customize my toolbar, I will have to uninstall Stumbi with the uninstaller located in the .dmg file, and the original "customize toolbar" pane with all the options will be restored.

So for anyone who wants to use this version in 32bit Snow Leopard, this information may come in handy.

MAHOJAS  I have enjoyed using this application for years now, and I can't find a better one on the market. Thanks to AB I now have quite a considerable collection of audio books in my iTunes library which I listen to on my iPod. It works smoothly and cleanly in all respects. All that at a very affordable price.

*****

MAHOJAS  Amongst all the applications of its kind out there I feel it has the most systematic interface and provides the most ease of use. It is a disk utility program par excellence. For me, I just perform the automated actions routine every once in a while, and I have never had any serious problem in all the 5 years I have used this program. All those who have rated this application negatively here I understand to be either newbie hotties who still must learn to follow instructions or those whose negativities originate from elsewhere and they just need to let off steam. Kudos for Onyx.

MAHOJAS  I can only agree to all of the positive comments written here for 1Password. Very great security. I just purchased it after the trial period and am very satisfied.

The only thing that worries me, this version being 2.9.3, vers. 3.0 is not far very away and likely to come soon. I hope that it will be a free upgrade for those that have purchased 1Password recently. I would not like having to pay again in a short while...as the price is a higher than what I pay for other shareware applications.

MAHOJAS  Same here. I guess the update was only meant to fix the calendar problem with Entourage and only Entourage was updated, as I noticed in the installer process. Word, Excel, and Powerpoint were left untouched

MAHOJAS  You might want to see Eric Woehler's comment below (Oct 15th). I followed his advice by the letter and its worked for me for this update version as well. Be sure to copy the installer on your desktop and use that file only. Good luck on your next try. (If it works, give his comment a smiley face rating.)

MAHOJAS  I found that the quality of importing music can now be set in the 'general' preferences tab, which is actually a very good development. I retract my previous statement. In all respects iTunes 8 is a great improvement from the previous version.

MAHOJAS  For all of you having trouble to run this update and getting grey hairs as a result, it might pay off to refer to this web page, it might solve your problems...

http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20080514094814989

Personally what worked for me was a combination of steps outlined here, and after fixing permissions and rebuilding launch services with Onyx, restarting the computer.

P.S. I'm sure Microsoft really didn't have their act together on this one, I hope they will. I'm glad though I don't have a Windows machine.

Gcal.app
Apr 9 2008

MAHOJAS  For some reason GCal.app has stopped functioning for me. (I'm using MacOS 10.5.2) Google Calendar no longer appears...just a white page. There must be some change in the way Google can be accessed...the same thing happened when I tried to use Hana as well.

A good solution I found to be Mozilla Prism (http://wiki.mozilla.org/WebRunner )

The download can be found 2/3 down the page.

This app is still under development, but great to use already... it can create shortcuts for any web-application in your dock with any icon, which will act just like a normal application. You can choose whether you or not you want to see the navigation bar, se status messages or enable navigation keys. For me this is so far the best I found regarding web-applications...and for free!

The Tube
Feb 22 2008

MAHOJAS  I bought The Tube recently and comparing it to the Eye TV of a friend, I was disappointed. There are not as many channels and the reception is not as good. Although EyeTV costs more than twice the price of the Tube, both the Eye TV hardware and software are well worth it. For me the Tube still has too many bugs,(I'm using OSX 10.5.2) such as registering each channel twice during the search, errors in deleting unneeded channels, insufficient signal strength. I'm happy that the developers agree that software and hardware need more work though, and are still in their fledgeling stages. Good luck! If you are satifisfied with only a basic product, without a lot of channels, for less money then this may be for you.

Apple QuickTime
Sep 14 2007
*....

MAHOJAS  I am still very disappointed that Quicktime does not support playing DVDs yet, like VLC does. I find the Apple DVD player outdated and useless after changing the region code 5 times. Was the region code system not abolished in the late 1990's?

I travel a lot and now after only a short time, needing to change the region codes 5 times, I have to depend on VLC to play my DVDs, which come from various countries. Why does Apple still have to follow such outdated codes when everyone else doesn't ?

I suggest Apple should concentrate on one media player that does everything-- Quicktime, DVD Player, Front Row -- all should be one application--region free. Wasn't Apple able to think of such a thing yet ? Most surprisingly not.

If any legal problems would arise out of this, I'm sure Apple's legal department could take care.

CHIAMAC  Apple is a major technology company. Whether we like it or not, they have to play "by the rules" of movie distribution, which means region codes and copy protection. Therefore, all of their software is going to play by these rules as well. At least we have the option of using multiple players, such as the freeware VLC player. There will rarely be one app that does everything related to its function. And this is generally a good thing; it's called competition.

MAHOJAS  This version 2.6.0.151 I cannot log into my account anymore. It just gets stuck. As well the process of confirm application change (securityd) takes up 780 MB of my memory and because of this can last up to 10 minutes to update my keychain items. I really don't know what to do to get skype running here.

Speed Download
Mar 20 2007

MAHOJAS  I have been a happy user of Speed Download for years, but this last update (version 4.1.10) crashes my MacBook Pro. When the Confirm application dialog box comes up my whole system freezes, which has never happened before with any application. Even if I don't download anything this dialog box comes out of nowhere and freezez my whole system, forcing me to uninstall the application. Bye-bye for now until the next update.

MAHOJAS  This version is a huge improvement in comparison with previous versions. At the moment I don't find another auction program quite like iSale. It works wonderfully on my Macbook Pro. MenuTemperature
Aug 19 2006

MAHOJAS  I tried menu Temperature on my Mac Book Pro (10.4.5). After installation always at startup an annoying AuthHelper message came at startup (at first I did not know which program it came from), where I had to enter my password. After upgrading to Tiger 10.4.7, if I entered my password, then the system slowed to almost a standstill, making it impossible to work on my machine. If I cancelled the AuthHelper message without entering the password, my system worked perfectly. I urgently suggest you should get rid of this useless AuthHelper application.
