MAGLET  After running this update my sytem crashed and I had to reinstall.

After running the update again after a fresh install I'm now back with a broken system again.

System update crashes. Safari crashes. I'm not able to run .pkg and reinstall 2008-007 or System combo update 10.4.11 because they also crashes.

I think is has to do with Webkit framework because the nightly build from http://nightly.webkit.org/ run whithout a problem.

But I dont know how to install a new webkit. The safari .pkg install from apple.com crashes as well when I try to install.

I have run permissions and drive repair from the MacOS install CD. I also tried to run in fail safe mode.

Nothing works. Is there a fix to this!

KINNICCHICK  Afraid I can't be of help, Maglet... am having the same problem. Am sitting here now having to use husband's windows machine because I'm stuck with a MacBook Pro that will not get beyond the gray screen with spinning wheel of frustration to boot since the error on trying to download this security piece.

ERICG  I have had the same problem, but not quite as extreme. After the installation, the powerbook would start after a long delay. I can open apps, but the whole system freezes after a minute or two. I am currently trying to install the original Leopard.

What a disaster.

PIETROD  To install .pkg from terminal:

sudo installer -pkg /PACKAGE_PATH/NAME.pkg -target /DESTINATION_VOLUME

For example:

sudo installer -pkg ./SecUpd2008-008PPC.pkg -target /

Cheerio.

MAGLET  My system update crashed when running this update. Dont remember the reason given. Anyway, I could not start ANY new programs after the update failed. And the computer does not start up.

To apples defense I can say I had the CS3 suite running while running the system update.

So, I had to reinstall the system.
