MACUSR  ABOXOFJOSH, I'm not sure what you are yelling about. I'm using a theme and have the window maximized and it remembers it, maybe your prefs got courpted so it can't save them, try deleting them and setting it again

MACUSR  Great blogging software. Super easy to set up, even with GoDaddy, just change localhost to the correct one. You can prolly Google around to find out what to use.

Virtual PC

MACUSR  98SE files using this on my G4 iBook. This must be the only good thing Microsoft came out with. I was able to run map software, install and run Sim City 2000, and it's wonderful. I'm even going to try RollerCoaster Tycoon!

Virtual PC
Jul 28 2006

SAES  Virtual PC was actually created by Connectix. They were great, and had a few other really useful products, including the old-school 68K to PPC emulators (Rosetta for the previous generation) and a really nice mac playstation emulator. Virtual PC was sold to Microsoft and at that point most of the rest of the company was absorbed into the collective. Ah well. I wonder if kept alive, the next version will offer any advantages over Parallel's Workstation for intel macs?

CORYCOOPER  Agreed...except Microsoft purchased Virtual PC from Connectix...then ruined it.

Q emulator
Mar 29 2006

MACUSR  While I was waiting to get VPC, I used Q. It's easy to set up, but it was slow. It was good for an emulation, but I wouldn't recommend this for everyday work use. Maybe just for that .doc file or a small DOS game. Maybe on the G5s and Intels it runs better, but on my G4, VPC is much faster.

UMAROMC  For the .doc files I'd recommend the OS X-native NeoOffice.

Q emulator

JSLMG  Actually, no emulator of any kind is needed on a Mac for .doc files. Yes, NeoOffice, clunky and resource-hungry as it is, is one option. AppleWorks works just fine, and is fast too. It saves any document you can later open in MS Word should you so desire. If you're using Mac, why not just use what's already there? Test it out...It's a lot of more cross-platform than you might think, and no emulator needed.

Halo

MACUSR  I wish they made a better server thing. Also, a lot of crappy servers ruin the game. It's also pretty old and on my iBook, for me, the game doesn't have the graphics as the screenshot shows.

STAR-AFFINITY  It's because of the graphics card in the iBook. Doesn''t support pixel shading.

Halo
Apr 27 2007

MARK_CAIRNS  The screenshots are from the PC version and with all the settings maxxed out that way a new MacPro could handle it (with the Radeon X1900 card anyway). Up to now the game has run better and faster on the PC version than the Mac version (I run both).

Three differences only:

1) The little stubby lights around the maps glow RED or BLUE on the PC version; they're just pale static cyan on the MAC version. Much prettier on the PC.

2) The gun turrets on the PC file three accurate "bullet beams" (a triumvirate) which helps aiming. On the Mac we obviously have that ugly streaming lightning thing going on

3) On the Shees (sharing a similar anomaly to 2) - the wing tips glow orange on the PC when the shee is piloted, they do damn all on the Mac version. Much MUCH prettier on the PC.

Unfortunately even this superb U-B version of Halo hasn't addressed the three points above on the Mac / Intel Mac version... which is a shame.

PC version wins unfortunately.

MACUSR  This is THE best widget. Very easy to check what's on at the tap of a key. Though, I would like smooth scrolling. Maybe have it as an option, since some people might not like that

MACUSR  To find where your shuffle was built, it's embossed in the USB protection cap. Need to get the right reflection of light to see it, and it's small, but it's there
