MACLOVER1.1 For me it works well and fast.. so fast I even had to slightly recode some of the loading in one my FLA's that did not quite handle a shared library correctly at such speed lol. Simple logical fix did it. HOWEVER... I do experience a bug when typing into input textfields in Safari... like logging into beatport.com etc... each letter gets typed twice.. does not do that in Camino, Firefox etc.. so dunno.. a flashafari issue.. MACLOVER1.1 I love this software but for the last few versions I have experienced a sluggish update (if any) of the windows.. meaning I'll make copies or download files or whatever usual finder stuff and Path Finder will not update the current window.. sort of makes PAth Finder verge of useless if I have to check what my files really are using the finder... what's up with this ? MACLOVER1.1 I do not understand how Spaces can simplify my Life... I tried it but I end up getting more confused with it than without it. I actually find easier to do a Hide Others when I need to hide something and most of my Apps are fullscreen.. so stuff is hidden anyway... yeah Spaces is one of those "wonderfeatures" that ends up being fairly "unwonderful" lol So I gave Hyperspaces a try to see if this Spaces functionality could be tamed in a somewhat useful/efficient way... and the answer for me is: no. Yet more confusion. I'll stick to Hide Others when need be.. which actually is very rare. I 'd love to know the percentage of Mac users who actually use Spaces.. I have a feeling it is quite low... none of my Mac friends use it.. I know that... that's like a 0% user base here lol... and they're all "power users" working in graphics/movies... Anyway...er... that was my take on this. (Version 1.0b9)

MACLOVER1.1 What's with the windows changing size on what seems a compleely arbitrary basis ?! ..er... is the "window-growing" automatically just by touching it a feature ? If so.. please make it go away lol. I have yet to understand if this utility is useful or a hindrance... the way it grows automatically even though my inbox is empty (thus not to say.. accommodate a message's view..) is truly annnoying... plus aren't messages supposed to be viewed full by clicking the little eye/quicklook icon anyway ? So what is the automatic-growth about really ? Feels like a major bug... prove to me this is a feature.. and explain how it is not a real pain lol I gave up using Copypaste (different product I know.. am just comparing this off window-growing behavior) for this same reason, the little desktop icons grow and grow... just by touching/moving them. MACLOVER1.1 I'll echo a comment made below by GUNTIS below. I would not mind paying an upgrade fee (though it had been said it was a lifetime registration... which GraphicConverter Lemke actually honors... BTW.. so it does exist... very rare). Anyway I don't mind an upgrade... but not full price ! I'm always amazed that people who potentially help a developer obtain a user base by being the early customers pool "guinea pigs" who end up being the ones who fork over most money over time (I'm saying guinea pig because I have purchased many a shareware (and even "regularware" that drowned a horrible death... and that ended up as money down the cyber drain for me..). That is not correct in my eyes... Sure we got more use out of it over time one could say that it made it possible for a developer to want to keep at it... so please always respect your early customers. That should be "Developer Etiquette 101". (Version 2.0v83)

Carrara | Oct 17 2009 |
MACLOVER1.1 This app is very sexy (I actually own the Pro version), but it performs fairly badly and can easily be overwhelmed by complex models and thus crash quite a bit, I own this and never really used it too sacred of the crashing.. reminds me of the OS8-9 days.. OUCH. As for the latest Snow Leopard update, well it does not work at all, they've had issues and said the new release fixed the missing interface text bug... but it does not... and basically the interface (which is a bit weird like Bryce, Poser.. you know those.. wanna be smart interfaces Kai Style plugins of the 90's) ends up being an annoyance (I hate the Poser interface too, looks like a bad toy). If you need a really sturdy 3D app.. I would advise Cinema4D.. which can be enhanced with a great Poser plugin (InterPoser) that thing is sturdy as a rock.. then again it is German.. Germans tend to make very sturdy software... At least I perceive things that way. Also if you want a cheap cool 3D app, definitely get Cheetah. DAZ bought Carrara and Hexagon but the development is lagging, which I find unacceptable coming from a big developer. We are not talking shareware here !!! For instance no upgrade of Hexagon in ages. Daz is much more concerned with content I believe, and their software apart from DazStudio are not up for the real game. I'd avoid this app, even if does look really good. It's like sex... the best ones are not essentially the best looking ones lol (Version 7.0)

COCOATECH Most issues were related to Snow Leopard's heightened security. It had broken a number of core Path Finder features, so we were releasing a new build after successfully repairing each individual feature. We've officially released Path Finder 5.5 for Snow Leopard, which you can get by running Check for Updates in Path Finder 5.1.5. We've had to branch Path Finder into separate Leopard and Snow Leopard builds, so SL's version number will begin at 5.5 while Leopard will continue from 5.1.5. (Version 5.1.5)

RapidWeaver | Aug 28 2009 |
MACLOVER1.1 Hi, my situation is a bit different, I only do Flash websites (guess I'm one of those hybrids that likes design and code)... but need to provide alternate basic html content for those people still allergic to the idea of installing Flash, or those with possibly weak computer configurations or those who for whatever reason do not want Flash (though in my area and with my clients' target audience it is rarely an issue). So basically I needed something to quickly make pages for those unlucky few, so they still get the basic useful information and not feel completely left out. For some time I used RapidWeaver.. I had tried iWeb but found it too basic at the time. However over time I spent quite a little bit of money for various RW plugins, and the cheap app became less cheap... then iWeb grew into a more complete application... the point is that I much prefer iWeb now which I find more intuitive, more fun and which fits my needs without any additonal plugins. For more freedom in design I could also advise Flux (also developped in the U.K. btw... it is a different animal, and the learning curve is a bit steeper.. but still everyone who creates web pages should take a look at it too... really). Anyhow unless Rapidweaver morphs into something that somehow brings me more than iWeb.. who knows, but for now it sits on the shelf. (Version 4.3rc1)

MACLOVER1.1 Just reading the comments below.. I think these guys are not quite understanding the usefulness of DF lol Sure you can create aliases all over the place, make a mess of your desktop and sidebar etc etc.. or you can use DF with Finder or in indded in ADDITON to Path Finder... not as a replacement as I just read below... these are completely different lol You remember like in school, apples/oranges ...not the same... different lol I'm always amazed when people compare things that are not comparable. It hurts my sense of Logic. Sure they have to do with "Finder stuff" but it's like comparing Illustrator and Photoshop by saying they both deal with images lol SO ?!! Er yeah and Pizza and Ice Cream are both foods... duh ! For my part I create all sorts of sets in DF allowing me to easily navigate to open/save files in a very organized way, based on clients, or contexts or whatever. I get a set of recent folders, favorites etc for each DF set etc.. . Every time I install a Mac for a friend* I always show them DefaultFolder and Path Finder which are to me two tools I really really rely on for navigation and would not want to give up. *Since the iPhone craze I see more and more people turning to Mac :-) (Version 4.3)

Live Interior 3D Pro | Mar 4 2009 |
MACLOVER1.1 Overall this could be a great piece of software, yet the 2D drafting tools are a little awkward and make it difficult to be precise, for example the grid becomes very choppy-looking at high magnification percentages (though for precise-snapping/measurements it is often important to magnify a lot as the grid automatically changes it's definition as one changes magnification). It would be nice to have a panel that would allow one to place guides entering their coordinates. I also find that snapping is a little fickle (with no preference to be set in this realm). Also the usual Mac shift/constrain does not apply in this software... Overall it seems to me the 2D environment still needs quite a bit of refining/rethinking. On the 3D side it is pretty-well done.. though the 3D import is limited (.obj support would be welcome for instance.. for example some sort of Poser import to bring in a few people to amke a scene more lively and give a better scaling appreciation of space). Also is no way to decide on a scale of import for 3DS objects (no import preference whatsoever). Last but not least, user-created guides are on a same layer as walls, furniture and all objects, yet cannot be locked as can objects. For exmapl if you do a select all.. your guides get selected. Some sort of layer system (apart from the "storeys") would be very welcome.. as it is the project tree can get quite confusing and it would be nice to be able to create one's own folder structure.. the only way to sort of do this is to group objects. Overall I like this soft.. and really hope it will become a little more refined. (Version 2.1)

Dupin | Feb 26 2009 |
MACLOVER1.1 One MAJOR drawback is the tiny checkbox, make it very hard to quickly make changes to a filtered list.. for instance I have many duplicates with an added " 1" at the end of the filename and Dupin does not have a way to sift through my filenames and for example tell it to always reject a track if it has a " 1" at its end. SO ANYWAY I need to manually check the one I wanna keep and uncheck the one I want to keep.. which is when that tiny tiny checkbox is really a silly badly thought annoyance as it it hard to clic, responds badly to my nonetheless precise to my Wacom pen. MACLOVER1.1 I do not understand all this Flash/Adobe bashing (hatred towards power/monopoly possibly). Flash is one of the coolest experiences on the web. PERIOD. It gets better and better with stuff like Papervision etc. I guess on a modern powerful machine like my MacPro Flash Player works very well.. so not sure about "weak" configurations.. (it works quite well on my "cheap" MacBook as well) but then again it is like anything.. if you wanna go fast get a powerful motorcycle, if you want to be strong get good muscles etc... or do not complain. The only thing I have noticed, or maybe I am just making this up.. dunno.. but it seems the text-rendering is not as clean/smooth as it was in previous versions.. looks crisper which makes characters slightly jagged... anyone noticed this ?! As for Safari 4... WoW !!! Almost trippy. (Version 10.0.22.87)

MACLOVER1.1 I also miss the stop/reload. I don't mind the revamped tabbing system. I've always enjoyed right-handed approaches as I do in websites etc.. as I am right-handed as are many people, yet many pieces of software still have most of their funtions on the left.. which is so unnatural.. sure we do write left to right yet the joystick/gearshift in a car is on the right side in most countries isn't it... which somehow makes sense... One wish I've had all along is a sliding tab instead of a separate window for "downloads", "activity".. I hate having a separate "download" window, always have found that awkward. Same with "source", it could maybe be dealt with in a similar fashion to "history". (Version 4.0b1)

SO I am giving up on Fruux, too bad it seemed to be what I was looking for... As for all the other backup stuff (Sugarsync, Oakspider, Mozy etc....) are way more than I need so I guess I'll get it all done thru various little gizmos that let me use Google as a centralized base... though I find all this a little cumbersome... beyond that no matter what one says.. ~S Please, read the descriptions. I read that this framework/thing uses MacOS-specific technologies to show flash movies on screen. It is an attempt to run them better: faster, less CPU and RAM (I guess), etc. It provides also the tools for other developers to substitute Adobe's frameworks with Swfdec's ones. Actually, in my machine it will eat more RAM and CPU than Adobe's player, won't play sounds, etc. But I'm sure it will improve its performance in a short future (cross fingers!) (Version 0.8b1)

MACLOVER1.1 I cannot even start to rate this app. At first it seems wonderful.. yet I keep running into all types of bugs (I'm on a MacPro, 10.5.2). Bugs range from unresponsive text boxes, flawed text wrapping and many many others. At times I'm saved by my backed up files (not the automated ones since each time a file has gone corrupt on me... the automated backup is as flawed as well obviously) at other times I need to just close my file without saving it, reopen it and things are responsive again.. it gets very tiring and stressful. I really wanted something to replace IndDesign (which I used to replace XPress) I just hope this app gets stable or it can really be a misery in a beautiful disguise.. I cannot imagine I am the only one to have suffered this ?! (Version 1.12)

MACLOVER1.1 How an amazing app.. that could be the Graal of design has become one useless piece of crap... DO NOT USE.. Or rather use at your own risk.. As most likely you will end up having to redo everything in another stable app at some point along your design after running in all sort of bugs.. and banging your head against the wall.. This app is dead as far as I'm concerned. Not sure how it fares on PC.. but why should I care ?!! Features: 5 stars... Stability: -12 stars (Version X.0.2)

ALLOUTSOFTWARE What makes Hana different than other web browsers is that it is designed to focus only on the sites YOU specifify it to show at all times. Of course, we mean for it to be used with Web-apps such as Gmail, Basecamp and others. When you open Hana, all of your web-apps are right there. If the web-app supports it, you are even logged in and ready to work. Hana is not a browser. It is not for browsing or surfing the web. There is no back or forward button. No address bar. Just you and your web-apps. Thanks for checking it out. Please visit our website and let us know of any specific feature requests, bugs or short comings. We really want to know these things. RapidWeaver | Feb 3 2007 |
MACLOVER1.1 The main issue I have with this product is the lack of stylesheets for typography. I think it could really benefit from paragraph and type styles like any good layout app (look at InDesign, XPress and so on). Sure HTML does not handle font sizes in desktop publishing manner but rather the whole + or - deal... which for a graphic designer is a bit silly. I'm sure RW could use rweal point sizes and then generate the code that is needed. A lot of the times in RW one needs to just take eyeball measurements for "point sizes" and hope his eyes are well calibrated. Then a little + or a little - and we're all set.. I hate working that way !!!! When I say 1 2 points I want 12 points and if I want 8,5 I want 8,5 not + or - !!! So if you're gonna be a wysiwyg kinda product then try to look as much like a true page layout app as possible. (Version 3.5.1)
| [ Reply ] | |

Blocks | Feb 3 2007 |
MACLOVER1.1 Ok sure it adds a very useful functionality.. but it is buggy... blocks eat up part of their content if you trust the wysiwyg setup view.. basically what you see is not what you get. You've got to give more space on the sides of the blocks to make sure you are not missing content.. and the blocks end up not appearing similar in different browsers.. namely Safari on OSX and Explorer on Windows. The blocks cannot be locked while working so any "wrong" mouse movement moves them.. when all you wanted to do was edit their content you move the blocks themselves almsot every single time.. sure a little undo will put them back where they were but till I find this aggravating.. so a "lock block position" seems mandatory as far as I'm concerned. All in all RW and all its plugins are very cute but the whole deal feels a bit childish for lack of a better word. Not sure it is a YourHead issue, all this may stem frm the way RW is built.. dunno. Yet RW has no true adversary so I guess one cannot really complain... this whole arena is open to development I guess then. (Version 2.2)

Sorry you didn't like my tool. I have a few responses to your comments -- it seems like maybe you "didn't get it" or didn't give it enough time: 1. Blocks is not meant to be WYSIWYG. In fact any tool for the web (outside of Flash) that claims to be is probably only somewhat WYSIWYG. Font's spacing and structure of the various browsers are just plain different -- there's no getting around it. Blocks works in RapidWeaver. One of RapidWeaver's key features is to separate content from style. That pretty much mandates that Blocks cannot even be close to WYSIWYG. So it doesn't even try. Instead it gives you a freeform layout tool within the confines of the RapidWeaver way of doing things. You edit your content in Blocks and apply a theme with RapidWeaver. The theme changes the page to fit the style of your whole site. 2. Blocks DOES have a position lock feature. You can lock the x,y coordinate or the width or the height. It's right there in the Block Info window. I'm not sure how you could have missed it. It's pretty much the first thing you see when you open up the settings. 3. I'm not sure what to say about RapidWeaver feeling "childish." It seems like you're stretching to find flaws here. If childish is my worst bug -- then so be it. I'll take childish over "crashes", or "produces horrific HTML" -- which are the obvious bugs of my two main competitors. Keep in mind that RapidWeaver and it's plugins have a target audience that is decidedly different from DreamWeaver. It's meant to be simple even if that means dropping a few features. But for $19.95 for Blocks and $39.95 for RapidWeaver it's a few hundred dollars cheaper too. Give it some time. You really can do some great things with Blocks. YourHead Software (Version 2.3)

MACLOVER1.1 Ok a real comment now. This app is quite fine for cataloguing everything, it is fast, much fatser than Portfolio which I used as well but am a little tired of.. it is quite stable in this incarnation (was not before in my experience so I'm glad 6 came out). I actually think it is an underrated app and anyone needing to catalog anything should give it a try.It may not have the sexiset interface but it WORKS :-) (Version 6.0.4)

It has got to be a comercial issue... definitely NOT a tecnical one. I tried looking thisd up on the net and never found an answer.. this is so odd... someone explain please :-) Anyway I use ADIUM to chat on MSN. (Version 6.0.2)

DEVONthink Pro | Jan 30 2007 |
MACLOVER1.1 Getting my update.. and commenting at the same time (as I see a few fairly negative comments below) I just love this app. It is sturdy (been using it for quite a few months, daily) database access is fast (my main database is 2GB at this point). I had tried other "similar" products... Yojimbo amongst others but though it may look similar it definitely felt sluggish and not very reliable. I actually had paid for Yojimbo and quickly realized it could not handle that much data fast enough on my system at least... so I wasted my money basically.. heck.. so I strongly recommend you try this one out. It even browses the net which is practical when you do not want to open Safari or DevonAgent. I use ti as my main hub for al the stuff I foten eed to access, snippets of info, all my URL collection, manuals I need to access often.. anything really. I'm thinking of getting the Office version but the only real added bonus I'd use, I think, is the scanning ability and for this I use YEP (the free version... not the latest one). And Devon's products ahve reaally cool icons :-) Big Deal I know LoL (Version 1.3b3)

RWThemeMiner | Jan 30 2007 |
MACLOVER1.1 Good idea... something that could/should be included in RW.. . as the previous post explains.. it greatly simplifies customization of a theme and allows one not to have to keep post-its of the expansion slot names and so on... which can become a bit of a puzzle. If you us RW you need this. (Version 1.3)

RapidWeaver | Jan 29 2007 |
MACLOVER1.1 Cute but not extremely robust. I would not trust it for a complex site... I lost themes I made that became somehow unusable giving me strange errors...Duplicating a theme usually (well make that "always" on my system) crashes RW. But hey that is what you get for being lazy and using a do-it-for-me type of software. SO make it more stable and it'll already be quite cute ;-) (Version 3.5.1)

1Password | Jan 26 2007 |
MACLOVER1.1 I used Web Confidential for years for passwords but this looks much better as far as integration and WC (oops I didn't notice this b4 LoL) rarely ever gets updated. True 1Pass It is a little steep pricewise.. and I must admit I tend to shy away from stuff that eventually gets implemented by Apple (keychain is indeed limited) but hey I just started using 1Passwd today and an glad it works with my Top Browser Deluxe DevonAgent. I really like being able to have several profiles for hotmail for ex. or for my websites' host and I think in the end the minutes I save recurrently will quickly pay for this.. ok guess what.. I talked myself into purchasing it.. :-) See how talking to oneself can do wonders, no shrink needed :-) (Version 2.3)

MACLOVER1.1 Sorry Apple but iTUNES is an Eyesore that crashes, will not launch, will not respond etc, resinstall, trash prefs... etc... Damn if my working apps (yep the ones I use all day long to survive) did this to me... I'd kill myself. Back to Old Faithful Audion (yep it still works fine). And iTUNES Store please give a choice for music at bettter than 128kbs (yep I can hear the metallic crunched bits in there).. the whole locking of audio files also sucks... le me be free to copy my files as I wish.. all this protection is not helping, it is just making me want to stay away from DL services like that of iTUNES. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER and rethink it all outloud 'cause it is not making sense.. even my iPODS give me trouble... And I so love Appple... still but definitely not for this crappy concept. MACLOVER1.1 This has a flyover mode, meaning you do not need to click to dig deeper into your folders one after the other. MACLOVER1.1 well after more use I stumbled onto many bugs... rendering this interesting app truly annoying.... the jpg compression is really awful (Thank god Fireworks exists). A good idea but not usable in a real work environment as it is. I used it for a few months, hoping the cause of thses nightmarish halts was smthg esle but nope... it is indeed PF. MACLOVER1.1 I keep hearing people raving (well no not hearing... I know noone who uses it personally; I read about it) which is why I'm as curious as the next guy. Anyway up to this version I could hardly be certain I'd be able to launch it twice in a row, it seemed extremely fickle to say the least. Then now this version launches fine but the interface is so slow to repsond to any clicks, no beyonfd slow... I cannot imagine why ?!? I've got a good G4 1.33 Ghz, 768 of RAM. What king of machine does one need to run this thing ??? Or is the Mac OS badly supported ? And all the ravers are on Linux ? I've tried many 3D apps, but I'll stick to my paying faves: Carrara and Cinema 4D. I lauch : they obey my commands LOL (Version 2.42)

ArtRage | Jul 14 2006 |
MACLOVER1.1 I find that Painter has become very dry over time, especially since the Corel years... less and less fun and more and more "palettish" and here you have ArtRage and its great ergonomy, not as powerful of course but but sufficient realworld paint/draw tools to do plenty. As for comments I read about resolution... not sure if pixels were limited in an earlier version... but I tried to set my page at 3508px X 4961px and it works (not quite real time but close on my G4... sure it'd be a breeze on a Quad G5 ) and that equates to an A3 page at 300 dpi... I would think it might suffice for most professional print uses LOL And it seems one could make one's page even much bigger (depending on Hardware of course). Yep very sweet app !!!!! It should be bundled with the OS... iPAINT LOL (Version 2.1.1)

EASTGATE Some ideas are simple, and can be presented simply. Others are complex. Sometimes, simplicity can only be found after sorting through lots of data and lots of research. Some of the more complex screen shots above come from research into game design principles and practice by Professor Julie Tolmie at Kings College, London. It's a tremendous amount of work; if it could be simpler, I'm sure she'd make it simpler. (Version 3.5.0)
