Bean

MACBLISS  Bean is a fantastic text editor. It's options are well thought out and highly useful like the full screen view, alternate display colors, float window, and back up. Great job. To think the developer wasn't a programmer before he started Bean is amazing. One thing I'd like to suggest as one other review shared, is a custom background color for new documents, whether they be RTF or text. Or a way to open up new documents in alternative display colors - with the default blue background and white text, would be a nice in the interim.

MACBLISS  Watching this one develop. Sounds like some nice updatess. But, unfortunately not open for testing to unregistered users. May want to consider enabling new demo for each semi-major update. If you can't try -- it's hard to buy. Just some food for thought.

MACBLISS  Looks good. But in order to be truly usable it needs better export options. Namely - you should be able to "take out" your daily clippings all at once or by folder, in their native format, preserving their creation date. Currently you can only export one item at a time.

BOSX  Needs to be able to export as individual entries (not just one document) and preserve creation/modification dates of entries. Important if you ever want to get your entries out of the app and use in another program.

DTEARE  Thanks! I'm glad you like 1Password!

Regarding Opera, we really want to support it as we are big Opera fans (we used Opera lot when we were stuck on Windows). Sadly at this time Opera does not provide an extension mechanism required for 1Password.

The last version of Opera has added support for simple extensions but it is not enough to provide 1Password integration. Hopefully this trend continues and we will be able to support Opera in future.

With that said, the new my1Password service will support Opera:

http://my.1password.com

This service only uses Javascript so it works perfectly fine in Opera.

Please keep in touch and continue to let us know how to improve.

Cheers!

BOSX  I was using Google Reader for a long while, then google changed their left bar menu into a drop down menu --- which makes it a lot harder to scroll and see everything. Then you have to click subscriptions every time you want to go to a new one.

So moved into NetNewswire for a quite while, and was enjoying it quite well, but then recently it stopped checking my Craig's list feeds. Saying there's no new items, even when refreshed. I'm dumbfounded as to why it stopped.

If anyone has any ideas -- feel free to reply. Meanwhile I'll have to check out some other readers again.

JOBBY  A followup to my own post: I can see the new items in the affected feeds by turning off NewsGator syncing and refreshing all feeds.

I can then turn syncing back on and read the articles, but still don't get any more updates in those feeds while syncing is on :(

BOSX  This is a very unique and interesting app. One things I noticed is that it really needs keyboard shortcuts for the outliner. And the text field should be selected when you create an outline item, so you can immediately enter text.

BOSX  I have to say that this is absolutely awesome ... Thank you so much for creating it!

I can now edit text in full view no matter what app I’m using. And I can use it for not only text, but any type of information. I.e., viewing web pages in full screen!

The only request I would have is that it renders text more clearly in full screen. Instead of increasing its size like an image, rather increase its font size. If this is possible in current implementation I know not, but I thought I’d throw it out there.

And lastly, be able to see the curser in full view would also be desirable.

This is a most desired utility!

Thank you again.

BOSX  iCal sync is painfully slow on an ibook g4. In contrast, like the way Process does a sync. It happens automataically when you create a task with a due date and enable synchronization in preferences (Although it only monitors tasks created in Process, not in iCal).

OmniFocus -- even though it offers a comprehensive 2-way sync, takes a long time, and as such it's not something you are going to want to do very frequently. This kind of defeats the purpose of using it for me.

A merge between OmniOutliner's hierarchical structuring and Things cool tagging and recurring task features, and Process's syncing and custom column features would be ideal.

BOSX  So far this app has been working wonderfully.

Hasn't crashed once I might add.

Favorite features thus far ...

• Outliner

• iCal Sync

• Transfer (aka cloning)

• Custom Columns

• Sources -- the ability to link files and urls to individual tasks -- and view web pages and other file types within Process.

After using it for a few weeks, here's some features I thought might be welcomed additions (in no particular order):

Flag option, like in Mail, Mori, Yojimbo, etc.

Drag and drop capability of "transfer" command (an awesome feature by the way).

Trash Can for deleted items.

Manual option for Archive command, in addition to automatic.

Nested Project capability, like tasks.

Option to not include "transfer/cloned" items in smart projects. At present duplicates show up, which limits their usefulness.

Custom project icons, like Journler has for folders, where you can add an image to represent its contents/purpose.

Quick entry panel -- like Things, OmniFocus, etc. -- and/or a Service that can be used with Quicksilver, for easily adding items to a project, i.e., an inbox.

Keep up the good work.

BOSX  You guys rock. Nice job. Boy it was a long time coming -- but it sure seems worth the wait. I can't wait to get started using Process 3. It even has seem-less 2-way ical syncing! Yahoo!

At 39 it's a steal. And with upgrades at only $19 you have got me sold without a doubt! This is one of the fastest upgrades I've every decided upon.

I'm more than excited I can't tell you. If you are overly frustrated with the state of outing and task managers -- and don't want to compromise functionality for eye candy or vice versa -- give the new Process 3 a try. I am overjoyed that these guys have revitalized this app. The syncing problems of version 2 should now be a thing of the past. Boy, I'm sure glad I upgraded to Leopard. Thanks a million guys. You have made my day.

BOSX  A fine app, indeed. Scratches most of the needs of the most demanding user.

Just a few issues that keep me from wanting to use it full time.

I have a problem with the implementation of the library shelf, first in color (so dark) and second in placement. It's stuck in only 3 positions on left or right screen. Yes, Yojimbo's is as well, but it has a better looking tab -- lighter in color and angled.

I think the growl notification should be optional. I'd prefer a sound notification as an alternative, like in Shovebox. When you are dragging urls from a web research session I'd rather not eee a notice pop up every few seconds. It can be distracting.

Secondly, there should be a keyboard shortcut for adding items to the library. Like URLS while you surf, so you could bypass the shelf all together.

And finally the shelf itself should have an open/close shortcut -- so you can hide it when you don't want to use it, without having to open the preferences in the app.

As is, the shelf yields for an undesirable workflow., because if positioned on the left top I can't see the close button in my browser or the back button. On the right would be alright, but it's a lot further from the url bar for dragging, and with it's dark color it's a bit of a distraction as it contrasts greatly with the other apps I use. It should have an option to use the translucent light gray that Yojimbo does. It's much easier on the eye.

These comments may seem like nitpicking but they affect the user experience, which is a big part in why we choose the software we use on a daily basis.

I thought I should let it be stated, in the hopes that maybe a few minor changes could be implemented to make the "getting info in" aspect, to be be more fluid and enjoyable.

MACMELO  Hi BOSX,

Check Together's support forums ( http://reinventedsoftware.com/forum/ ). Most of the issues you mentioned are discussed there...

Some notes:

1. Growl notifications always can be made optional. Just edit Growl's preferences in System Preferences panel...

2. As for adding things to the library, you can use the services shortcut (I believe it's Shift-Command-T by default, but I'm not sure). Check the forums as this is discussed there...

3. About the shelf, it's all dependent on your particular workflow... I try to use the services shortcut most of the time but when I use the shelf I would actually like it to be totally hidden (yet still there—still functional—as you can set in the app Leap). I don't know if that's what you mean, but if it is, it's something I already discussed with the developer and we'll probabluy see it in a near version... Anyway, check the forums as this is thoroughly discussed there...

Take care,

Shirra support is on the radar screen. We actually started work on it over a month ago, but the 2.5 release and Leopard took up all our time so we didn't finish.

As for customization of items, we should be able to do that too one the Leopard wave subsides :)

BESTOFOSX.COM  I too think this is a very nice piece of software, and a very worth upgrade for all the new features. However, I must echo the previous posters comments, that the upgrade pricing seems a bit steep.

I feel $39.00 is reasonable, perhaps even $49, but $69 is not an easy sell I would imagine. I am not ready to jump on it at that price.

For $69 you can get a new full license for NoteTaker. It does a lot of what Curio does, without the drawing and mind-mapping features, and is not as fun or "creative" probably for most people. However, it is very versatile and the price is right, I think.

I would think that the creative designers of Curio would realize that the "creative people" that Curio seems to have been made for, are often the ones who need the pricing break more than anyone. They are often more concerned with following their passions than making money. A little less of an upgrade price, and you may get a lot more upgraders too.

BOSX  I REALLY wanted to like this app.

Process is nice eye candy and appears to be a highly usable app, but I admonish anyone from enabling the iCal sync.

It will likely delete you entire iCal Calendar library. It happened to me (I'm glad I made a back up FIRST).

How about an update that addresses the iSync problems ... mentioned by several customers, if you want us to invest in future development?

BESTOFOSX  This appears to be a fine new task management app. I am very impressed with its simplicity and how well-thought out the interface is. And of course the hierarchical to-do/outilne ability is one of its main benefits over other apps of its kind. And the "shelf" concept is excellent.

A few things I'd like to see are:

• A URL field

• Rich Notes

• Alarms

• Integration with iCal -- 2 way sync, so you could take your tasks on your mobile phone phone or PDA

• Smart folders

The program is off to a fine start. This is one to watch!

BESTOFOSX  Looks nice -- but unfortunately the trial of 2 weeks is not adequate. After trying it months ago once or twice, there's now no way to see any of the new changes, since demo is disabled. If you don't want to extent the demo, at least consider renewing it everytime you post a significant update so people can continue to try it and have a chance at reviewing the new features in order to make a purchasing decision.

Also, if I remember correctly when testing it originally -- there was no nesting of to-do items. Is this still the case? If so, I would recommend considering an outliner function -- for it to be truly useful for project management, and be on par with other apps in the genre, like Mori, Circus Ponies NoteBook, and NoteTaker, to name a few.

BESTOFOSX  I like this app a lot. It's very fun to use.

When working on financial matters it's good to have a little fun, right?

The other nice thing about this app is that it's rather intuitive, and VERY Simply to understand in how to use right away. Complex apps can keep you from acutually using them -- and if you are not going to use a Finance manager, how can you benefit from one?

The keywords feature is awesome, you can add as many as you want to each transaction, and you can view your transactions -- and expenses by keyword, just using the search field!

Other niceties:

Photo integration.

Address Book integration.

Smart Folders/Drawers.

Plus it has support for recurring transactions -- both outgoing and incoming (great for billing tracking for subscriptions).

I for one love this app -- and it's only in it's .3 version ... and rather robust, definitely usable on a daily basis.

One thought though ... I would like to say, I prefer the .2 interface look and feel over the new one just released in .3.

It's nice too, but it doesn't have the same "playful piggy bank feel" as the first one. It would be nice if the user could have an option to switch between the 2 -- in preferences.

Lastly, the only other things I would suggest right now -- in terms of features, are to add a URL field to entries and Nested Folders.

Enjoy this one ... it's well worth it!
