MAC5 A really excellent free download. This small application has enough content to satisfy most Mac users around the globe, provided you have access to high speed internet - aka broadband. Certainly one of the best applications that I've downloaded through MacUpdate in a long time. Highly recommended.. and so easy to use. (Version 2.0b)

Apple Mac OS X | Feb 12 2008 |
MAC5 I have to agree with the many negative comments regarding Mac OS 10.5 - "Leopard".. I've been an avid Mac user since OS 7.0. Leopard is a dog.. its riddled with bugs, many which cannot be fixed even by an experienced Mac user. Too much eye candy and back slapping from the developer teams at Apple. It used to be that Windows was the OS to laugh at, but of late Apple is starting to look very similar. Tiger was a stable system at the end of its life span, unfortunately it would seem that Apple has gone backwards and not forward with its Leopard OS. Apple needs to address the major problems with its current OS before moving ahead. We all need stability and reliability, not flashing lights and bells and whistles. I'm sure half or more of all these fancy hoop jumping applications never get used by the hard core Mac users. I'm certainly not moving to Microsoft... or any other OS for that matter, but I'm feeling a little depressed with Apple latest OS release.. It could be so much better.. (Version 10.5.2)

MAC5 I'm having similiar problems to other Mac users who have just updated to LLC 2.3.1. Lost all my previous settings for both my S530 keyboard and mouse. I no longer appear to have the option for a double click using either my left or right button. Its only available using the scroll wheel. I was under the impression that an update meant an improvement.. I only see a step backwards. Like so many other users I can't get my head around the fact that Logitech make such nice hardware, and deliver such crap software to drive it. Years of producing good hardware, and as many years spent producing really pathetic software. I have to wonder if their software is is bad when using a PC.. I also have to wonder if Logitech actually care about the sub standard software they deliver to the Mac users around the globe. (Version 2.3.1)

LAINSNAVI Since you're curious, I'll tell you about the Windows version. I had to use a Windows PC at work for a few days while I waited for the new G5 to come in. I set up the Logitech driver so I could do stuff. Basically the same kinda thing as the Mac driver but less intuitive. Actually, I don't remember there being any settings on a per application level either. Maybe they changed that though as that was missing from the Mac side for a while as well... So, basically, yes, it's just as bad. (Version 2.3.1)

MAC5 Like previous reviewers I do not see this as a major upgrade, and certainly not one worth $12.00. Why do developers expect owners of previous versions of their software to fork out more dollars for nothing more than a minor upgrade. Th public at large are not so easily duped, and especially true of those of us who are comfortable with computers, and savvy with most types of software available. (Version 2.0)

MAC5 This is the first version or updater for Safari that will not run on my G5. Once installed, and after a restart, it simply hangs and will not open. Running Disk Utility makes no difference. I'm running Mac OS 10.4.10, and I'm begining to get impatient for OS 10.5.. (Version 3.0.3b)

MAC5 This release has for the first time, caused me to revert to the previous version of LCC. I'm using the Logitech S530 Mac keyboard & mouse which is good keyboard let down by poor software. This version does weird things when I scroll with my mouse, and the zoom feature no longer allows me to use it with most games. Such a damn shame that Logitech produces good keyboards and mice, but such crappy software to drive them. I wonder if their software is any better on PC's ? It makes you wonder just how much in house testing is done before these updates are released on the open market.. I'm using dual G5 with OS 10.4.10, and have 2GB of RAM. (Version 2.2.2)

Apple Safari | Jun 25 2007 |
MAC5 I downloaded and installed this version of Safari last night. It worked for me, but soooo slow to load and render pages. I'm assuming the slowness is caused by the plugins and add on's I have installed. Be warned if you are not using the standard and clean version of Safari, then you may find the same problems I encountered. I uninstalled this version after trying for an hour, and went back to what I had been using. The uninstall was painless without any problems. I'll hang out for the none beta version when its released for Mac users at a later date. (Version 3.0.2b)

SightSpeed | Apr 20 2007 |
MAC5 I have decided to pull the plug on SightSpeed after many, many hours of trying to make it function as described on their site. I emailed the developer on a number of occasions, asking for advice. They were very slow to repond, and really offered very little in the way of technical advice. They did not appear to be very Mac savvy. All rather disappointing as the application appeared to have real potential, and supported video. I'm using a G5 Mac with an iSight camera, and generally have few problems with either devices. Perhaps some time in the near future we might get a version of SightSpeed that is Mac friendly, and works as advertised. I use Skype & Gizmo without any of the problems that I had trying to use SightSpeed. (Version 6.0.6055)

MAC5 Google Desktop indexed my HD in quick time.. I was nicely surprised at how effective and accurate this application is. The way it presents the results of a search is also well presented and easily understood. Anyone who uses the net will find the search method, and results very familiar. Provided this application is updated, it should be readily adopted by the Mac community at large. Early days yet, but no problems encountered at this time. I for one use Google as my search engine of first choice when searching on the net. (Version 1.0.0.155)

MAC5 Further to my review posted on 3/6/07. I have in that time requested support from the SightSpeed team on five different occasions. They have yet to reply to my many requests for support with a number of ongoing problems. Not what you might describe as " good customer support ". In todays world they very soon be overtaken by similiar companies who do care, and who deliver support to their customers. I did incidentally purchase $20.00 call out to make phone calls to friends on my contacts list. At this time I am still unable to even call my own home phone number from my Mac.. I also have friends using PC's who are having problems very similiar to my own. (Version 5.0)

MAC5 A really excellent piece of software. I use it with my iSight webcam and really can't praise it enough. It makes a huge difference in poor lighting, or under any set of conditions that would normally render your webcam useless, whether it be lack of light, too much light, washed out colors etc,etc... I'd find it difficult to be without it on a daily basis. Well worth the asking price. Highly recommended. (Version 1.4)

MAC5 I have been running the latest version of 6.0 SightSpeed for about a week. Its very buggy, with lots of problems for the Mac. I have a friend who uses the same app on his PC with very few problems. The video quality and sound quality have improved considerably on this version, but it needs quite a few bugs ironed out. I bought $10.00 call out to make phone calls, and I'm unable to dial anyone - including my own home phone number.. Its allows you to add contacts, but you can't call them for some weird reason. I'm using it with an Apple iSight camera, and the image on screen is excellent. I've tried turning off my firewall, but it hasn't helped at all. Hopefully the developer will respond to my email enquiries soon.. The previous version worked just fine on my Mac. (Version 5.0)

MAC5 I'm still undecided if its any better than the iTunes equaliser. I'm using TDK Tremor speakers with a sub, attached to my Mac G5. I'm hard pressed to really hear much difference.. The UI is pretty big, and needs to be made reduced some what. For $20 it could be a bit over priced for what it does. I'm sure there is room for improvement, and it may well be worth the money once its been tweeked a bit. (Version 1.1.6)

MACNERD1984 I dunno. I think if you can't hear the difference between this and the iTunes EQ you might have a hearing problem! I was sceptical at first (I work in the high end audio industry) but for $20 (about £10.00 here in England) I got something that I find it impossible to not use now without getting hearing hangover. I'm only using Soundsticks, which probably benefit more than a decent set of speakers but for me the built in EQ can't fully replicate what SRS iWOW does. (Version 1.1.6)

SightSpeed | Aug 3 2006 |
MAC5 I've been struggling along with this video/voice app for some time. When it works as stated, its very good.Unfortunately it often does not work as advertised by the developer. Its very slow to launch, and often throws up an error with reference to a firewall prohibiting it from functioning, at the receivers end or the users end.. In most cases it still manages to work, but not all of the time. It needs a great deal of work to improve its functions before I would recommend it to any other than an experienced Mac user. Its also got a lot of competition from similiar applications such as Gizmo and Skype. Once Gizmo supports video use, its going to be the one to beat. SightSpeed must improve if its going to compete with similiar video/voice type applications. They also need to support free phone use for SightSpeed users to make it more attractive. MAC5 I've been using version 1.4 now for about three weeks on a trial basis. I have found it to be very effective, and simple to use I have had dozens of emails in the time I've been trialing it, and only one piece of spam has slipped under the net in this time. It may have a simplistic look to it, but its very effective, and can hold its own against some of the other more complex and expensive anti spam applications. Ok, the icons are a bit clunky, but that does not detract from the fact that its very functional. I'm going to purchase the latest version of SpamSweep because it works as stated by the developer. MAC5 Its not too often that you run into an application that refuses to install.. This one asks that you quit all running browsers before you install. No problem with that, but even after I had quit all open applications - it still informed me that I had to quit any open browser before it could be installed. Don't Apple users just love these " much too clever by far "these software giants that that really turn us off their products, especially their updates. Their survival in todays world is looking grim unless they can release a piece of software that firstly is installable, and secondly actually works as stated. I'm never sure if these large companies are much too arrogant, or just plain inept. I have a distinct feeling that Mac users might just expect a bit more for their dollar. (Version 8.0.24)

ABHI BECKERT The more it's "ok" to ask for your details, the more developers will do it, and eventually you *will* start getting spam. I'm a developer, and I'd love to reliably track how many people are downloading my app, and then compare them with the last release to see how many actually still use the app. But I don't do it, not only is it a pain in the ass to users, more importantly it makes it hard for the end user to detect a company that wants to sell your email address (in an ideal world, only spammers would ask for your email). God, how do these companies ever survive.. You might imagine that a company the size of ATI would by now be able to post a simple update for Mac users to download easily. MAC5 I previously posted a comment on this update to the effect that I was having a problem getting it to except the serial nuber that i had been using for over two years. This is a paid for registration. I am still unable at this time to get iClock 2.5.5 to except this paid for serial number.. I have gone as far to uninstall the entire app, and start again. It still did not work. I have contacted the developers on four occasions to ask for assistance in resolving this problem. To date I have had on delayed response informing me to omit my email address when completing my details. This did not fix the problem. I have been a regular user of this application since it was first released, and I feel let down by the developers who do not respond to customer support. I'm not sure if other customers have had similiar problems in the past with this developer, and if you are not prepared to support your customer base, then your place will very quickly be replaced by those who do offer good support. MAC5 today I paid for and tried, yes tried to install Toast Titanium on my G5, only to find that the licence number which was emailed to me was rejected by the installer.. No problem, contact Roxio. I don't think I've been to a more complicated site in a long time. Its obvious that they really don't want to get emails from customers - that would mean having to reply to them.. Its the holiday season coming up and I really needed to sort this problem out before the new year arrives. After wading through one of the worst sites I've been to in a long time, which took nearly thirty minutes - I gave up in total frustration. Endless pages of total crap, meaningless nonesense, gobblygook, mumbo jumbo. Hell who runs this site... The point being.. its real easy to sell a product, but you must have a site that allows the customer to navigate it easily, and be able to get some form of assistance when they have a problem. This type of site is the reason that many potential customers never shop online. They are intimidated by the the complexity of such sites, and after wading through ten pages of nonesense they flag it. I'm an experienced internet shopper who found this particular site one of the most complicated I've dealt with in a long time. (Version 7.0.2)

MAC A useful piece of software only if you intend using Apple DVD player ,which is rendered pretty useless with its limited region use. I started using VLC a long time ago without any problems, and I trashed the very restrictive Apple DVD player. Why bother having to make your Apple DVD player region free, and apply a patch, when you can start using VLC without any of these problems. Apple needs to sort out this problem before its DVD player becomes totally useless for people who play DVD movies from different regions around the world. Region is none the less, a very useful piece of software for those who intend to only use the Apple DVD player for all their movies. (Version 1.1.2)

Vlc is a great player for the playback of video files, but if it comes to playing dvds (at least on my "old" g3 ibook) it unfortunatly can't compete with dvd player since it is a softwarebased-player.
