LEWISH While they obviously want to sell licenses, the unlicensed version is 100% exactly the same aside from some unobtrusive ads now and then. I have a feeling the license cost is a bit prohibitive intentionally - finding the most profitable intersection of ad revenue and license revenue. (Version 1.2.2)

Stronghold Updater | Mar 15 2009 |
LEWISH I had the same problem - updater would hang and never update. Then I realized I was attached to multiple network drives. It wasn't just searching my local computer, it was searching everything. Disconnected them, and then the whole process took under a minute. (Version 1.2)

TimeLog | Jan 15 2008 |
LEWISH For pure time tracking, TimeLog is second to none. That's all there is to say about that. Unfortunately, I need more than just time tracking, as I'm sure many professionals do. A simple integrated invoicing solution will get me to switch. Billings doesn't do any one thing the way I want it to, but it does do everything and it does it acceptably well. As much as I want it to, TimeLog just doesn't seem designed for use in a business, and I can't really figure out what other purpose it might have. (Version 4.1.2)

Notae | Oct 31 2007 |
LEWISH Completely loved Notae until I upgraded to Leopard... unfortunately it runs incredibly slow now. Hoping for a fix, but dev site doesn't have any news. (Version 2.2.1)

Notae | Dec 12 2007 |
AHKNIGHT Notae runs slow because of a bug in Leopard's Spotlight service, unfortunately. I have located the cause and filed a bug with Apple. What happens is that every time you change a note, Notae loads some data from disk (the NIB for the new note type). When that happens, Spotlight hits the disk hard for a little while and then comes back. So, unfortunately, it's nothing I can really control on my end. It's bugging me too, surely. And for some people 10.5.1 helped a little, so be sure to update to that. (Version 2.2.1)

Telescope Basecamp Widget | Sep 22 2006 |
LEWISH this widget looks like exactly what I want, unfortunately the project select pulldown menu is greyed out, so I can't actually select my project and use the widget. any ideas on what has gone wrong? it logged in without a problem. (Version 2.0)

SMS Launcher | Jun 12 2006 |
LEWISH I was glancing at software titles but did a doubletake when I saw the short description attached to this one. The name is so misleading not only is it funny, it makes me think it's on purpose. (Version 5.6)

ProLCD | Jun 9 2004 |
HARLAN LEWIS The link to download here at MacUpdate has been updated, and will now download ProLCD 1.1.1 as a standalone guiKit. Sorry about the confusion! (Version 1.1.1)

ProLCD | Jun 9 2004 |
HARLAN LEWIS The download on this page currently points to version 1.1, not 1.1.1. Sorry for the confusion. To get the latest, (1.1.1), download this. A brand new blue variant is also (Version 1.1.1)

WIBS It's still a long way from being anything compared to ShapeShifter (and quite frankly I'm not sure what real advantages Duality will have over SS even when it's done), but the more variety the better I suppose. (Version 5.0b2)

MLE If it remains free, that is a HUGE advantage over hape shifter. (Version 5.0b2)

Shiira | May 26 2004 |
WIBS On my dual 450 G4 w/ 1GB ram, there is a noticeable difference in speed between Shiira and Safari. It's really friggen fast. I don't use most Safari features aside from tabs, and Shiira does those almost exactly the same (maybe slightly better). It can use Safari's bookmarks as its own or add them to its list, it has a google search box in the address bar, and did I mention it's really really fast? The only thing really keeping me from using it is that it is definitely not a pretty browser, and I admit I'm a sucker for aesthetics. Applying metallifizer to it helps a bit, except that the address bar/bookbar bar text doesn't take on etched text colors and can be a bit hard to read. (Version 0.9.1.1 Build 040525)

SeaMonkey | May 17 2004 |
WIBS Safari is also only 2.9MB because the entire rendering engine it uses is installed with the rest of the OS, whereas Mozilla has to install and use its own. And as far as web development goes, gecko is widely regarded as the most complete and most accurate rendering engine. (Version 1.7rc2)

Adium | Apr 5 2004 |
WIBS Go to http://adium.sourceforge.net/ for more information. It's been debated before, but the developers don't want this released yet. (Version 2.0a)

Latium | Feb 11 2004 |
HARLAN LEWIS If you're implying that I wrote those two reviews, then send an email to MacUpdate and try to get them revoked. They won't be, because I didn't write them, but you can always try. (Version 1.1)

HARLAN LEWIS I'd just like to point out that Latium is still being worked on, so if you have any questions, comments, etc etc please send me an email. (Version 1.0)

Apple X11 | Oct 28 2003 |
ANONYMOUS In Panther the X11 app in Utilities said it was version 1.0. Then I download this, "upgraded" it through the package installer, and now I have a spiffy new X11 app at version 1.0. ,,,so what's the difference exactly? (Version 1.0)

Audion X | Jun 22 2003 |
ANONYMOUS Only two things not to love: 1) doesn't play mp4/AAC files (I was going to switch from iTunes to Audion as my primary player, but too much of my music has been ripped in AAC format that it's not worth it) 2) crashes. usually it's only when you're messing with large playlists, but every once in a while it just quits on its own for no reason... happens in the middle of songs, happens when editing playlists/id3 tags, happens without any rhyme or reason (Version 3.0.2)

ANONYMOUS i'm the guy who just wrote a review who switched over from Adium a few weeks ago. anyway, my bad on not being able to connect - the password just didn't get transferred to 3.0 correctly. as for crashing when it quits though... well it still does that. (Version 3.0)
