LEE123 I have not tried this and probably will not. But... This is probably different in respects to actually being able to have separate icons, app, etc ... for each desktop. While spaces allows multiple working spaces each one is the same as the first one. With the exception of launching certain apps into separate "work spaces" Apples Spaces is not a true multi-desktop app. If this is the case then indeed this app will appeal to a number of people that are not satisfied with Apples app. (Version 2.1)

SOHO Notes | Sep 25 2009 |
LEE123 I am using Soho Notes 8 and am a long time Devon Think Pro Office 1.5.x user. I also use Shovebox. First, I like the program and have purchased it. Second, It is not all a positive experience and I will point the things out that are/were annoying. For me this program has replaced both of the programs above and this works out to save me time and effort with the mouse and keyboard. It has also finally aggregated all of my collections of 'stuff' in one place. The workflow is better for me because basically I found it easier to get web archives, bookmarks, snippets of text etc... into Soho as opposed to Devon. I used Shovebox (I really like this program) mostly for the web capture stuff and Devon for Scans, PDFs, more important documents. Now I can just use Soho which gives me the easy web capture stuff and a solid database type product. It also does the scan ocr stuff as well. I like the way spotlight works with Soho better as well. In DTP if I search in spotlight and then select an article to display, the main window would open but I would still have to search in Devon to get the article to open (this may be fixed in DT 2 or maybe it was just my setup). With Soho the article opens right up. I like the Flash Note feature in Soho. This is a menubar item that lets you search your notes database for quick access. It shows a list of the matched notes that you can page down through if needed. The list also has a preview pane where you can see the highlighted note and even copy txt and images from. Very handy. There are some things I would change for sure. I had a few glitches with the install right off the bat. I had to race to push the Ok button on the second part of the install because it kept crashing as I tried to read the text on the window. Finally on the third try I clicked as soon as it popped up and the install finished fine. How did that one get out the door? There is also the little matter of the contextual menu items not working. I ended up removing them all together. The 'Services' menu items work fine and are actually really handy. So if the other menus don't work and are not even needed then why in the world have them installed? I get the feeling the company needs a better beta testing program. I find it annoying that you do not have complete control of the placement of the 'Dock Note'. This is the main thing you see on the screen used for capturing and dragging notes too. It can be completely hidden which is nice but my wife needs the other view. This view is a little tab which you can only place at the lower, middle and top of the sides of your screen. Why not just make this so you can drag it wherever? This program could also be so much more attractive. Sure its way better than all the other ones in this class but that does not take much. You did a complete re-write of the program and did not include any of the cool new leopard interface stuff? What about a quick view type look for Flash Note and the Dock Note? Have a look at Qu-s or even KeyQue for some ideas. Maybe there would be a trade off with functionality that would make it a bad idea? Thats it for now. I have only been using it a couple of days so I am sure some of my views will change. I do not want to start a debate over who is best or what features are best between Devon Think and Soho. I completely understand that there are plus and minus to each. I only want to review this product. (Version 8.01)

LEE123 Just tried the software out and Yes it does have several key advantages over the built in function I mentioned in a previous post. The advantage is that this software keeps your setting per app so the next time you start an app it opens in the keyboard or language set. (Version 1.0)

My needs are simple and adequately covered by the free app. They will also be covered by a paid app. I will pay another developer. This one will not get a penny from me. Ever. (Version 4.5.1)

KKNOPP Try clip-menu. It's free and works great. I too aren't happy about the author's bait and switch game. I called it back when he started putting red blinking text in his applications. KKNOPP And yeah, if there was no reason to bash software, I would agree with the OP. But there is. When someone plays bait and switch, then over-charges, you are going to have a lot of complaints. If the author doesn't like it, he shouldn't have been so greedy. It's no more childish than what you said yourself. AKA blaming people for being childish etc when they are just giving their opinion. Which BTW is based on fact. (Version 4.5.1)

CCI can be used on Snow Leopard, but will not load into applications running under the standard 64-bit memory system. Most of Apple's own applications run as 64-bit apps by default, and some newer third-party ones do as well. For these applications, you can load CCI by opening the Info window in the Finder and selecting "Open 32-bit" checkbox. In addition, the CCI graphics module is not yet compatible with Snow Leopard, so you'll see the default Snow Leopard buttons and other widgets rather than CCI's. Enhancements for using CCI on Snow Leopard are in the works. Update 09.01.09: CCI 2.2.1 now has a Snow-Leopard-compatible installer and uninstaller that can be used to add or remove CrystalClear Interface on Snow Leopard. (Version 2.2.1)

LEE123 I just have to write in again on this. This browser is really coming along and I am using it as my default. It has some great features. I love the sync and notes feature. The notes can grab anything off a web page or you can write your own. So if you use the notes and then sign up for online sync (free) then you have access to your notes on any computer or phone that has Opera. Of course, it syncs your bookmarks too. This is great because when I am on my linux box I fire up Opera and everything in opera is the same as the Opera on my mac and vice versa. It also has a built in email client that works really well. It is also nice that it works across all modern operating system and phones really. Oh yeah, It is also really fast. The last beta was a little slow but this one is fast again. It is also really easy to block adds and do different things with script add ons. Its also completely skin-able and has widgets (semi useful). The upcoming Unity feature is going to really change things too. The Unity feature will basically let you share files (music, emails) and other things with anyone running Opera. How cool is that gonna be. I dont think that is in this beta3 Anyway, I like other browsers too but for me Opera rocks. (Version 10.0b3)

LEE123 I just finished a 30 day trial of this software and really liked it. It is very easy to get things into the notes database through the services or right click menu and via drag n drop into the sidebar thing. You have quick access through a little menu item to all your notes. I have used devonthink for a couple of years now and would switch to soho with no problems. The one thing I would miss if I did switch is the spotlight integration of devonthink. I had no stability problems at all. I transferred my notes from devon, about 600 mb, in a matter of 30-60 secs. Searching in soho was pretty much instantaneous for me and worked well even in pdfs. One thing I wished for was a way to add the notes from the organizer events to the notes database. I contacted support on two occasions about how to use the program and received an email response in 24hrs which seemed reasonable to me. (Version 7.0.4)

LEE123 I forgot to mention that CopyPaste Pro is an Application while PTHPasteboard is a system preference. This basically means that CPP has a Dock icon while PTH does not. (Version 2.0.5)

CopyPaste Pro | Apr 14 2009 |
ANONYMOUS Um the reasons you think this application is better than PTH is the reasons I don't think it is. I don't want it to be an application in the dock. It SHOULDN'T be according to the type of program it is. As far as stable applications, PTH has NEVER been buggy on my computer. Not only that, most of the features that cost money in CopyPaste are FREE, yes FREE in PTH pasteboard. There is a reason PTH is the #1 clipboard utility for the Mac. (Version 2.0.7)

CopyPaste Pro | Apr 14 2009 |
LEE123 @Anonymous How do you manage to get so many things wrong in one response? First of all I never mention any reason I "think" copypaste is better that PTH. I also never say PTH is "buggy" or any other negative comment. To the contrary, I mention that I have OWNED and used PTH for a year. Also, I never made an argument that the type of program is a negative or a positive. (Version 2.0.7)

" "PTHpasteboard for the last year or so and this app offers more cool features this app offers more cool feature" "I forgot to mention that CopyPaste Pro is an Application while PTHPasteboard is a system preference" Now why compare those things unless you were claiming one was better? If that isn't what you meant, you need to word your post better. (Version 2.0.7)

ANONYMOUS *rolleyes* It's obvious to me that you aren't going to admit to what you did. Regardless of what your intentions was, you did indeed do what I posted. You may have no INTENDED to, but that was the outcome regardless. The right thing would have been to have replied to my post say "Oh that wasn't my intentions if that is what you got from my post" instead of denying you did things you actually did. Then you come back and tell *ME* to get a life.. that is large of you. Really, it is. Next time just post what you mean. (Version 2.0.7)

BLACKSMITH_TB S3 isn't free, but it's cheap: http://aws.amazon.com/s3/#pricing You do need some sort of interface to it, hence JungleDisk. JungleDisk is a one-time price, after which I believe all upgrades are free, and the license is good for OS X, Linux, and Windows versions: https://www.jungledisk.com/desktop/faq.aspx I'd say the MobileMe appears slightly less appealing as a backup solution, but it does offer other functionality (syncing mail, calendars, etc.). They're really not too similar. (Version 2.60a)

There does seem to be some mystery as to what it would actually cost to call country xyz. It seems like they may be heading toward a type of social network as well. LEE123 Actually this looks like a really good concept and I can see plenty of uses for it. I watched two of the videos linked in the reply below and understand the process completely. It seems like this could really shave a bunch of man hours if you were working on cutouts or whatever. I don't think it would just be a matter of cost saving either. I think what the program aims at is relieving the artist or production person from hours of tedious work. So I think in this respect the program/service seems completely justified and worthwhile. It would be nice to hear from an unbiased person in the field with real world experience with this product. (Version 2.1.5)

LEE123 As of version 7.2 this software has been flawless for me. I leave it run 24/7 and have no problems. I thought I would add this even though the original comment was for a very old version (2005?). 7.3 is out now but I have only been running it for a few hours. I expect only good things from it. LEE123 From looking at the iTV Web site I can't tell What itv does or is. SlimServer on the other hand is a piece of hardware and the software that goes with it. You can then stream your Music (no tv) to your audio equipment. This includes all itunes music and play lists or any other music on your computer. You can stream any Internet radio station you want without having a computer on. This includes your personal pandora radio stations as well as last.fm and others. It also has awsome plugins that display on the screen of the device. For instance, you can stream the weather from a rapid fire weather station down the street from you and get real time temp, wind, preasure and such from your neighbors weather station. You can also display stock market tickers and sports scores. Also you can write your own plugin and have it do what ever you want. I highly recommend the device. You can probably pick up an older one on ebay for cheap (slim1, slim2) and they still work great. They also have two new devices that look great for home and now portable audio. Cool stuff. LEE123 I think this new version is excellent even in beta form. The addition of a spell checker makes all the difference for me as well. Opera has its own password keeper which in my opinion works as good as any other program so for me this is not a "deal breaker". I own passwd1 so I do have a good idea of the differences and still I prefer Operas wand feature. I also really like the interface. It is simple, clean and very usable. It is also totally skinable and customizable. You don't like it then change it yourself. I highly recommend this to anyone. (Version 10.0a1)

LEE123 I have owned PF for years now and have found it most useful even with its flaws. However, I have recently began to feel like it lacked from attention and this release is further evidence. The new release has as many and some of the same flaws as the old release. Is a manual really too much to ask? Version 4 never did get a manual even after 2 years of begging and hundreds of forum comments. There are many more "quirks" that were never and still are not fixed with this release. These reasons make it a little hard to buy an update. Maybe I will buy it at 5.5 or so when it is more refined. Then again maybe not. For instance, why does the current view of a folder not Stick when you re-open the folder later. This feature is the Finder.app default. (Version 5.0.1)

BILLD Lee, here's the answer to your question. How to "back out" to the original document after a search from the Three Panes view: 1) Clear the query by clicking on the "X" symbol in the Search field. Your original document will be highlighted. OR 2) Click on the "back" triangle to the left of the URL field. There's your original document. What's neat is that if you now click the forward triangle you can see the search result document you viewed (or, with another click of the forward button, another search result that was selected and viewed). Clicking (multiple times if needed) will again) let you travel back to the original document. Disclaimer: I'm the Evangelist for DEVONtechnologies. (Version 1.5)
