L008COM Great idea for a plugin. Doesn't work though. It doesn't search by the street address. It searches ONLY by the city name. Not even city and state. So it returns close to 100 results per search, for results from states all over the country. Good idea for a plugin but its totally useless as it stands right now. (Version 0.11)

L008COM The new feature-set is great. Handbrake's ability to only work on DVD-like, non HD sources was really making it more and more obsolete. They've fixed that in a very big way. This new version has great features that work great when they work. The app is very crashy. Certain .mkv files seem to make handbrake cash for no apparently reason. I hope they fix this bug soon. TIAGO Well, regarding the "kids..." comment, I have several MKV videos (both 720p and 1080p) that are encoded by the best people in the "business" and I get several crashes when trying to convert them with the AppleTV preset... Saying that it isn't buggy only shows that you're feeding it with different sources than we are (and different is not necessarily better... it may just mean "more compatible"). (Version 0.9.3)

L008COM This program lets you choose which volume to test, then it tests it by writing a blank file to it, and timing it. A simple utility that WOULD be all I'm looking for. Luckily I was paying attention. This utility only tests the current boot drive. No matter which drive you tell it to test, it tests the boot drive. In other words, it doesn't work. (Version 0.1)

Plus the program is messed up anyway. It likes to beach ball for minutes at a time. And another neat feature is that it likes to cause hundreds of system beeps while it's running. It also went from an acceptable speed to a server-killing speed once it revived from its beach ball episode. Not worth the hassle, do not use this program. (Version 1.3)

L008COM Version 3.0 broke support for VNC. This sucks for me as both my servers run VNC server instead of Apple Remote Desktop server because ARD is a bit less stable. But Since upgrading on my intel macs, I can't connect to my servers at all. The notes on version 3.1 say that VNC support is fixed, or at least imply that it is. But trying to connect to a VNC machine fails every single time in ARD 3.1. I don't know what they are waiting for here. Apple is usually so good about things but every once in a while they really leave you hanging and this is one of those times. (Version 3.1)

Spyder | Dec 28 2006 |
L008COM This program is a classic example of a really bad implementation of a really good idea. It is a very nice looking program, with only some minor changes I'd make to its UI. Its feature set is nice and is growing with new releases. The main problem is that this program has astronomical RAM requirements. I have a Quad 2.66GHz intel Mac Pro with 1GB of RAM. Even with nothing else running, launching Spyder throws my hard drive into constant HD paging. The computer goes almost completely unresponsive. Loading friends of my friends takes over a week. I understand that it is scraping web pages and so there is a limit to it's speed, but that is not the bottleneck here. This app is trying to use 2-3 GB of RAM all by itself. This is the type of program that should be able to run in the background almost unnoticed while you do other things, and while it loads data etc. But instead it brings your system to a hault and keeps it at bay until you give up and force quit it, or until it crashes, or until you've waited over a week and it is done. When I first started using it, and saw that it uses an internal SQL database, I thought that would make it highly optimized, more so than any other program that deals with storing thousands of records of data. The developer does release updates often, but they are always to small bug fixes. I'm a paid user of this software, and I'm beginning to think I may have wasted my money. I really want this program to work... it just doesn't. (Version 1.3.4)

Macally ICEKey Driver | Dec 29 2004 |
L008COM Right off the bat, a keyboard the requires drivers is not a good thing. My mom really wanted this keyboard because I kicked her off my iBook and she got used to the thin low travel keys. This was the best keyboard i could find that had those kind of keys. It mimics every key on the apple pro keyboard, even the volume and eject keys. So you'd think it would work flawlessly out of the box, but it doesn't. It says you need the driver to use the volume and eject keys. You shouldn't have to install a driver for something like that, so already you can tell they aren't doing things the right way. Now I installed the driver, cause I wanted her to have those super useful keys. Well it makes you reboot, and when you reboot, the keyboard goes totally dead. No keys work at all. I can't even log in. I had to uninstall the driver over remote desktop to get the keyboard to work again. Now it works, but no Volume or Eject keys. Kinda sucks. It should simply mimic the apple keyboard signals for those keys and then be interpreted by the system the same way. But it doesn't. Unfortunately, this review isn't really going to help anyone, since anyone who finds it is going to already have the keyboard. These drives are from 2002 so they are way outdated, but they are the ones that come on the CD so you shouldn't have to re download them. Also I am using 10.3.7. (Version 1.0b3)

L008COM This is a joke right? You have to hack into the app to upgrade it. It doesn't even have an installer? And it doesn't even show the new version number. And they don't bother to fix the fact that it takes forever to draw your artwork, even on my Dual G5. And the instructions don't even make sense, why would the finder ever ask you to replace the items your moving, when you are moving them into a folder you just created. I wish adobe would spend one revision not even adding new features, but instead making all of their products run like a proper mac program should. (Version 11.0.2)

ANONYMOUS Thanks for your comment and rating, John. This script is strictly for AppleScript lovers. I haven't mastered AppleScript Studio to give it that professional GUI, courtesy of AS Studio Cocoa underpinning. However, I am indeed thinking to give this nice GUI in the future but not now. The best I could do is integrate some nice AS Studio applets, like the Progress Bar, into iT-MAC to breathe some life into its GUI. Else, all GUI is basically AppleScript and as you already know, this can only be done through a series of interactive dialog boxes. If you know of better ways to do it in AppleScript, without using a commercial OSAX, I would be your first customer. (Version 6.5)

ANONYMOUS Question, John. Is there such a thing as a regular new AppleScript that is any different from the regular old AppleScript that you described iT-MAC 6.5 as? I am just wondering whether I am missing the boat here. I thought I am hitting on all new cylinders as far as AppleScript, Script Editor, etc are concerned.

Ford Racing 2 | Dec 4 2004 |
L008COM Its a nice try but they definitely missed the mark on this game. - Only fords. No single manufacturer makes enough cars to have a game all to themselves, let alone ford. - Steering is really bad. It's a very on/off type of steering control. - Doesn't support controllers. I have in iShockII, and I had to use macally's keyboard mapping program because the game wouldn't use the controller directly. And macally's software is the worst app i've ever used, its a java piece of shit app, thats embarrassingly bad. - Game has excessive load times and really poor menu design. - Graphics are ok on my dual 1.8 G5, but on my 1.25 GHz iBook I really had to slim everything down just to get it to go, and even them it was really jump. I can't imagine this would work at all on a 700 Mhz G3 I don't recommend this game if your looking for a real good racing game. Get a PS2 and Gran Turismo. It doesn't get better than that.
