KNOWHOWE Me again. I've just been over to check out their site (www.spotify.com) and notice that their free service has now gone 'invitation only'. You have to apply for an invitation but are warned that "this may take a very long time" and are advised to use the premium service instead at UK£9.99 per month... Wow, I'm very glad I joined some time ago when everyone was welcome on the free service. I'd better stop recommending it to my penniless friends! (Version 0.3.22)

KNOWHOWE Man, I LOVE Spotify so much! Oh, the sheer joy of entering the name of some band you haven't heard for years and finding their complete catalogue virtually every time. And then to be able to listen to it in flawless quality. It don't get much better. I hope you Americans get this soon. You don't know what you're missing. (Version 0.3.22)

KNOWHOWE " I think Chrome does it right. Would you really want to download and run binaries and exec files (on PC) to your machine without knowing it they are going to do? What Chrome does is to warn you and get your confirmation before it download the files. Safari has a preference option where it says that it can open a "safe" file for you but I think it is still risky for some users". Yeah? Well in this case that's bollocks and you know it. Using something of the order of Safari's terminology- "Safari 4.04.dmg is a file you downloaded from the internet. Are you sure you want to open it?" would do nicely. Implying that reputable software produced by a rival "may harm your computer" is quite unacceptable and obviously designed to scare off those who know no better. (Version 4.0.249.0)

KNOWHOWE I was test running the last release of Chrome a while back, browsing MacUpdate, when I saw the new update to Safari. Hitting download, I was gobsmacked to see a message appear at the bottom of Chrome's window advising me- "Downloading this type of file can harm your computer. Are you sure you want to download Safari 4.04.dmg?" Now THAT'S unsporting- and bloody sinister. I was thinking Chrome was a nice little browser until that occured. Not any more- it went straight in the bin. (Version 4.0.249.0)

UMAROMC ...and there's no setting to have Chrome deem DMG files as 'safe'? (Version 4.0.245.0)

Google Chrome | Nov 14 2009 |
ILGAZ based on how they act by default, DMG files aren't really "safe" things to begin with. Look up "internet enabled disk image", "installer runs as administrator". Treating DMG as unsafe means they know the Mac platform, not the opposite. Check Safari setting 'Open "safe" files after downloading'. Wonder why Apple uses quoting? (Version 4.0.245.0)

Google Chrome | Nov 14 2009 |
UMAROMC I forgot about DMGs possibly being internet-enabled. And, of course, the "safe" is in quotes in order to indemnify Apple and place the onus for judgment of "safe" in the hands of the user. Lawyers. (Version 4.0.245.0)

KNOWHOWE New update, same problem: once again, a la my earlier post, this won't work if you're not in the US so don't bother dowloading it. If you're in the UK, give Zattoo a try. It gets most channels that Frreview offers and works very well. Or have you found something better? (Version 0.9.7.2)

KNOWHOWE Wow! Jetpack is back! I used to play this on my Umax Mac clone running OS8... This version has a lot more bells 'n' whistles but I found setting it to the 'classic' mode makes it closely resemble the old game I knew and loved. What IS missing, though, is the wonderful original evocative soundtrack. The included tunes in this version are ok but please, Mr. Developer, bring the original music! Yes, the grapics ARE pretty crude but that's ok by me- a blast from the past. I love it!

CHAS_M With hard drive space so cheap these days, why not use both? TM is fabulous for retrieving individual items or even doing a full restore, but Carbon Copy Cloner (and its main rival SuperDuper!) take a different approach, allowing you to create a **bootable** clone of your hard drive. This can be GREAT for quickly troubleshooting a sudden issue, or getting up to speed FAST after a failure, and for other things. Like I said, I have a partitioned drive for TM backups AND a separate HD for clone backups. It's all set to be done automatically, and the peace of mind is very reassuring. (Version 3.3)

KNOWHOWE I wish I hadn't rushed into updating from the beta with Safari Buddy to restore the blue progress bar. I've tried to re-install it but the system won't let me. The top tabs were perfect in conjunction with WindowShade. Anyone know how do this? I thought some clever person would have produced a way of giving us the choice of having these popular features by now but seemingly not... a shame. (Version 4.0.3)

FruitMenu | Jul 12 2009 |
KNOWHOWE Thanks for the update. I don't like to have much in the way of 'add-ons' on my system but Unsanity's FruitMenu and WindowShade are exceptions. Note that they both reproduce superb features Apple, in its 'wisdom' has done away with- a proper Apple menu and the ability to windowshade and minimise windows. Both splendid aids to productivity and efficiency I couldn't be without. What possessed Apple to remove these features is beyond me. Thanks to Unsanity for restoring them! I've never had a moment's bother with either incidentally. (Version 3.7.2)

STAR-AFFINITY I think the reason is that it's much quicker to hide the app instead of fiddling with each window. People should use hide more and minimize less (if at all...)! :) (Version 3.7.3)

KNOWHOWE Yes, I too loved the tabs at the top and want them back please. And I HATE that static 'loading' thing on the right hand side of the address window. It provides no feedback about how the page is loading whatsoever. I want my blue progress bar back NOW! Some good people were pretty quick off the mark to write little apps to put right the things we didn't like about the beta- such as restoring the progress bar. Help, we need you again! BLUESTAR Love the new Safari. Fast as hell and slick. Like the new tab bar arrangement better than the "tabs on top" BS and I also like the "loading" dark blue mini indicator instead of the light blue progress going across the entire URL field. so 80's looking, so 20th Century... :-) (Version 4.0)

Apple Safari | Jun 8 2009 |
BOOOMWHADIS This crippled progress 'indicator' instead of a REAL progress bar is the reason i'm not updating to 4.0. I think it's reasonable to expect an instant and intuitive representation of the page loading progress, like any other browser does. Instead of such a retarded, Microsoft-ish 'sorry, we're still busy' crap. (Version 4.0)

Apple Safari | Jun 8 2009 |
EXORZIST The progress indicator provides visual feedback about the loading state. I noticed some clever color- and transparency changes. Fun to watch :) (Version 4.0)

STROB Too bad because .9.4 has made some progress. The interface is now responsive. Moving in the menu is now really possible. Video quality adjustment is responsive for me too. Frame rate has gotten better although that is still not saying much considering Hulu's video quality. Now for the bad news. Hulu's "high" quality is very jerky. Medium quality is better but the quality is poor. Low quality is too horrible to consider watching. CPU still revs up to 100% and that is using Flash 9. I would not even attempt to use Flash 10 with this. (Version 0.9.4)

KNOWHOWE Wow, 153 reviews. This is obviously a popular piece of kit- or used to be, judging by some of the comments.. I must have been one of the lucky ones as I've never had a moment's problem with WindowShade- or with Unsanity's FruitMenu, two programmes I absolutely adore and couldn't be without. As has frequently been observed, why windowshading was ever removed from the OS remains a mystery so I, for one, am very grateful for this excellent piece of software. (Version 4.3b1)

KNOWHOWE Yes, thanks from me too. I personally love the top tabs and will be keeping them where they are but it's a great relief to once again have the real feedback provided by the blue progress bar. After applying the change and relaunching Safari, you just have to go to 'customise toolbar' and add the old-style 'stop/reload' button. Got rid of the Google suggestions nonsense too. MACNERD1984 Sadly, I have to agree. The Dev is clearly very into Riven (me too) so maybe these wallpapers were more personal for him, but they come across as pretty unimaginative. A simple Google search will yield some nice Riven wallpapers that I would say certainly bring it all back a lot more than these do. Definitely could be improved. (Version 1.1)
