Joomla!

K.BOOTH  Joomla is an excellent content management system. I've been using it and its predecessor (Mambo) for years. The package runs well on my own and remotely hosted sites. I use with *nix, PHP, and MySQL. It is flexible, extensible, and relatively easy to setup and maintain. End-users can add and edit content, which is a real bonus for community, non-profit, and company sites that want to outgrow the single webmaster/chief editor model.

Joomla is not, however, a Mac application and may be confusing to some by having it posted here.

GEX  I don't see what could be confusing to web developers - granted, it's not a Mac-specific application, but the fact is you can install Joomla on your Mac if you have all the other components in place (Apache webserver on, PHP and MySQL installed). It's a great way of developing websites locally instead of across the internet.

Transmit
Feb 2 2006

K.BOOTH  Directly from the Panic Transmit support page:

http://www.panic.com/transmit/support.html

You spent more energy whining than finding the solution to the problem.

no longer use Transmit. How can I remove Transmit from my .Mac Sync preferences?

Awkwardly, Apple doesn't provide a way to remove these items. But, if you're running Transmit 3.5, type this into Terminal:

~/Library/Application\ Support/Transmit/TransmitSync.app/Contents/MacOS/TransmitSync --unregister

That should remove Transmit from the list.

K.BOOTH  Works as advertised. Can't beat the price, file size, or reliability. Haven't had a problem using it. Great for backing up an iPod. Have used it to backup a 20GB and a 512Mb Shuffle. User interface is simple but effective.

K.BOOTH  Gerwin,

1. It does work. When someone offers an application for no cost, you should adjust your expectations accordingly, especially your comments. Your tone is of someone that paid hundreds of dollars for an application. You didn't so don't.

2. Vulnerabilities? All web servers have vulnerabilities. If you are worried, don't use this application.

3. Port 8080 *is* registered with IANA as an alternate for HTTP services. That is, 8080 is a valid port for web services. If you have a conflict, don't use this application.

Nice ap. Works as advertised. Great price.
