CHRISTIAN KIENLE  @JWILHELM Thank you for bringing this to my attention but this was not my mistake. Someone did update the info about Ebbinghaus without my knowledge. I now have entered the information about Ebbinghaus myself.

Bookends
Jan 27 2009

JWILHELM  Bookends is my favorite bibliography software in combination with Mellel.

However, when i downloaded version 10.4.3 the day when it was released all my reference citations showed only thee question marks (= ???).

The has been a "quiet update" meanwhile. Anyone with similar problems should download it again from sonnysoftware's site and it will work.

As it has been noted in the Redler's forum Sente semms to have the same problem with Mellel. Maybe it has something to do with the latter one's update to version 2.6.

JWILHELM  After reading in a German Mac-forum there really seem to be serious problems after upgrading just like RANDY reported.

Some of the symptoms include:

Cooler fans running wild after 1-2 mins.

Safari hanging up after a few mins.

Or my problem, i.e. no update after "software update".

I suggest not upgrading yet.

Apple had an erraneous update recently and i suppose there will be a fix coming soon.

JWILHELM  An update via "software update" did not work for me. Maybe i wait a few days before going from 3.2 to 3.2.1 (or a possible fix=3.2.1.1?).

SOREN0  The 2.2 Firmware should be released tomorrow according to an article I read. Version 2.1 of the firmware was released a long time ago, in October.

You must connect your iPod Touch/ iPhone to your computer via the USB cable and when iTunes recognizes the device, click the device under Devices in the sidebar and click the Summary tab if its not already selected. Next, click the Update or Check for Update button and iTunes will download and install the latest update to your iPhone/ iPod Touch.

Hope this helps.

Apple iTunes

JORGEHP  iTunes updates have NEVER included firmware for the iPods.

iPod/iPhone firmwares have always been separate downloads.

Even if iTunes is the medium to apply them, it never meant it included them. Imagine the 4 GB download (or more) iTunes would become if they included ALL the latest firmware to ALL iPods/iPhones ever released!!

iTunes detects and recognizes your iPod (that IS true) and when you hit the Update or Restore button it checks with Apple's servers for the latest firmware for that particular iPod and then downloads and installs it (if you chose to install it at that moment). But it downloads only the firmware for that particular iPod. The upside is, once you downloaded it, is saved to your computer.

It is also true, that some firmwares require latest versions of iTunes to be able to install them but, again, it does not mean that the firmware updates themselves are included in the iTunes download.

Therefore new versions of iTunes do NOT automatically mean that new firmares should be immediately available.

Just FYI

JWILHELM  Not really useful for me as it crashes soon after launch.

I'd wait for a more stable version which might be useful (e.g. Wikipedia access is possible).

So far Google Maps included in iPhone is my preference.

JWILHELM  The 8.0.2 update screwed up my Audio/Instrument Library. Especially Ultrabeat and some beat-audio-files of my projects seem to be missing.

Unsure if this is a specific problem in my case, yet, if anyone experienced similar symptoms plz report.

JWILHELM  I can confirm this. After updating to OS X 5.2 there appeared a sudden shutdown problem on my MBP SantaRosa 2,2Ghz. That made me quite nervous.

However, after uninstalling CoolBook 2.8 the problem disappeared. So i'm rather happy that it wasn't a hardware problem.

JWILHELM  I'm a registered user of OW55.

After trying out OW became one of my favorite apps that is worth the cash.

However, afaik flash videos are much slower than in Safari that is btw capable of similar features (character encoding settings for Japanese sites that do not specify the charset; urrrgh!) with the free SafariStand.

Most i like OW's comfortable history & bookmark functionalities.
