JUTGREEN I have a few suggestions (or maybe questions if you can already do these things) 1. Being able to "Report Bad Match" is nice. But I would also like the ability to manually change the URL that the application is using. For instance, Secrets came up as a Bad Match because there is an application for personal information organization and a pref pane for customizing OS X. I am using the pref pane. So, I would like to just be able to change the URL for the application and be done with it. 2. This is actually the same thing, but for a different reason. Some applications are not found, although they are on the MacUpdate website: Jaikoz Audio Tagger, Open Emu. So, give the ability to manually put in the URL, problem solved. 3. I would like to have an "ignore" option. There are some applications that really don't need to be in the list at all: WoW Launcher/patches, some daemons (AutoSync for Synchronize Pro), Adobe Air Apps, Fluid Site Specific Browsers (also, some of my SSB's are showing up as applications because of the names), etc. Maybe have a separate section for "Ignored Applications" so you can still view them, but not have them in the main list. 4. Show the size of the update. Make a column for the size (MB) and maybe include it in the "Version Info" section. This would be especially important for people on capped bandwidth or slow connections (I have a slow connection since I live in the middle of nowhere). Overall I do like MacUpdate Desktop, but I think it needs a little tweaking. I am currently using Application Update and Widget Update (http://gkaindl.com/software/). I have tried other application updaters, but I always go back to those for various reasons. I know that MacUpdate Desktop does more, but I honestly do not need it to install my applications for me. I keep most installers (with strict naming conventions so they are organized with Hazel) for reinstallation, working on client machines, other home machines, etc. I have two more months on my MacUpdate account, so I guess I'll just see what happens in that time... That was a lot more than I thought I was going to write. :) (Version 5.0) |
