Path Finder
Nov 21 2009

JQMUSICMAN  It is truly unfortunate but good to know folks are using it with success. For the usefulness that Path Finder would bring, I'd gladly pay twice the price.

I do want to add that my experiences are based on the 5.2.2 version for Leopard, not 5.5.6 as noted by Macupdate under my comment.

Path Finder
Nov 20 2009

JQMUSICMAN  Path Finder aspires to be something beautiful... and it succeeds on many levels --- except one. Stability. The devs are super-friendly and helpful --- but they can't seem to make their software stable. I've installed a few different versions of Path Finder over a period time hoping the bugs would be gone and the results have always been the same --- unreliable performance. Most notably are random crashes and freezes, especially when "hiding" the application. There are other minor annoyances that I could easily overlook, but the stability issue just can't be ignored. I've sent crash reports and have traded emails with support several times and I know they're trying hard. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they'll eventually get the large issue fixed because Path Finder would be dream come true. As it is, I find it unusable :(

Path Finder

ROBOTANK  It's unfortunate to hear that--I find Path Finder absolutely indispensable. I've been using it for a couple years and, though I have experienced minor glitches, I've encountered very few crashes or other major stability issues. I guess it just goes to show how much experiences with particular pieces of software can vary from user to user, for reasons that aren't always apparent. I hope you're able to get your issues with PF resolved sooner or later. It's miles ahead of the Finder, and it's a shame you can't use it!

Journler
Jan 19 2009

JQMUSICMAN  I should've mentioned in my previous comment that, for me, Journler is a fantastic piece of software (5 stars). It's super-stable, powerful, well-designed, etc. And it's because of this that I'm so disappointed with this news of a sell-out. I've been eagerly awaiting the 2.6 update for months only to find out the dev may be giving up. If this were mediocre software, I wouldn't care one way or the other.

Journler

JQMUSICMAN  I think Minimal asks a legitimate question. The dev for Journler has stated that he's considering selling this software. That scenario should be concerning to both newcomers and invested users like myself. I've (pre)paid for the 2.6 update only to find out that this update may never come.

Google Notifier

JQMUSICMAN  Mail notifier doesn't work with Google Apps hosted mail. Gives no error at login but never alerts on new messages. Totally lame.

BatchOutput
Oct 15 2007
*****

JQMUSICMAN  Zevrix Solutions has created a great app here that fills a missing gap in InDesign. I was seeking a tool that would help me in a very specific situation when I found Batch Output. It saved me enough time the first use to justify the cost. I've since found this versatile and powerful for many situations. Also, I sent a feature request to the dev and got a personal reply within about a day offering what I took as a genuine "thank you". That's a first for me. If you're looking for a solid app that offers total control of your InDesign output, I'm betting this will work for you.
