SyncDifferent

JOLLY_JOKER  I think that "syncdifferent" is one of the best apps of this genre, easier and more apple-like than the most famous "SyncTwoFolders".. I hope that this app will be keep up-to-date (because there are already some problems like: 1)if sync type is "copy from the source to the target", sometimes the app re-synchronizes some files that have already been synchronized and have not been changed; 2) it's impossible to select the option "open the following favorites".

JOLLY_JOKER  EGN your're right, but CleanApp find about ALL files related to an App (also the temporary files); this is the why I think it's better than the other Apps of this genre that are just a "finder that search also system files". We could say that till that "protected files" problem will not be fixed, you must pay attention and deselect files that haven't the same name of the App you're going to delete..

JOLLY_JOKER  I tried all the Apps of this kind (AppCleaner, AppDelete, AppTrap, Amnesia, the "old" AppZapper, ecc) and I think CleanApp is "the best app of his genre"!

but there are 2 things to improve:

1) when cleanapp scans an application, it reveals all the files that the app used, but, often, some of these files are preferences that Mac Os needs (like "addressbook.plist", ecc); so I always have to deselect some files. I think that in future the developer could improve the "protected system files" that should not appear when you scan to delete an app.

2)I think the developer should separate the "Preference Panes" menù in different submenù like "screensaver", "widget", "plug-in" and "preferences panes (only the .prefpane files)", so it will be more orderly.

5 stars (with the hope of these improvements...)

GRYPHONENT  Agree, those shared (?) preferences like AddressBook are annoying. I was expecting a fix to this problem long ago.

EGN  The problem with what you report is that if you don't realize CleanApp screwed up "selecting" what it should it will delete tons of files necessary for the OS to work properly! These apps should be drag-and-drop-zap safe. Not everyone is going to use a magnifying glass to check on what it is about to delete. Others like Amnesia don't do this. In short, this app can really be dangerous to your systems health.

EGN  Well, I just did not trust this anymore, deleted it and requested a refund. Will not use it.

I have found that a combination of Amnesia + Hazel will do much better with much less danger of deleting what should not be deleted. CleanApp requires too much overhead because you have to start really looking into what it "thinks" it should delete. Sometimes this is dozens of files. I don't have the time to be checking one by one and a lot of times one does not really know if a particular file or files should be removed or not.

If this app does what the developers say it does. that it monitors from the moment you start installing an app, all the files that it installs it should be very easy to remove only what it installed. This does not seem to be the case.

So, this app will not make it back into my group of utilities for a very long time, if it ever does.
