JOELWNELSON  Have you, by any chance, "thinned" out either PowerPC or Intel code you don't need, or removed language localizations with a program like Monolingual? That could potentially cause the Office installer to not recognize the existing installation...

JOELWNELSON  First, the good. It does what it claims to do and the cost is reasonable. There are many template choices and the output product looks professional.

That said, the program seems unintuitive. The English is poor in some menus and dialogs. Also, while it can be partially forgiven since it's a cross-platform Java app, the interface is very un-Mac-like. It feels like a poorly-designed Windows app.

In the past I also had issues with registration where each update caused the product to have to be re-registered. This seems to have been resolved.

JOELWNELSON  I've used 1Password with Safari in Leopard daily since Leopard came out. There were some issues for a couple days but it's been smooth sailing since then.

Norton AntiVirus X

****.

JOELWNELSON  While the need for Mac antivirus software is minor compared to in the Windows world, I installed NAV 11.0 Universal in order to have one more layer of safeguarding since I receive and pass along many files from Windows PC users, many of which are not tech-savvy. I am not worried about getting viruses on my Mac but appreciate the increased level of PC virus detection in NAV 11.

As far as NAV 11 itself...

it's Universal, it's much faster than NAV 10, and in a day's testing it doesn't seem to have any performance hit on a 2.16 GHz C2D MacBook.

Especially considering Symantec's past history with Mac products, it seems that they've finally put out a decent product with NAV 11. While the need is slim for Mac AV products, NAV 11 seems to be a viable contender.

Granted, I've only used it for a day but in that day there has been 6-8 hours of use involving having multiple Adobe CS3 apps running during a scan and performance has not suffered.

Only negative is that the interface, while greatly improved, is still not entirely "Mac-like" (i.e. absence of Cocoa toolbars). Minor gripe.

Four stars.
