JOEBLOWJAPAN  Now Up-to-Date used to be a great product, but that has changed, and I cannot recommend it at all simply because it doesn't work properly and Now Software is deceptive about the program's problems.

I used NUTD for OS9 for years. Menu bar reminders were a key element in my home office. I bought Now Up-to-Date 5.02 in July 2005. Guess what? No menu bar reminders, though the preferences had that option, and they advertised it. To quote Matthew in their support department, "...Menu bar alerts are not possible in Now Up-to-Date right now. I am embarrassed to point out that they were not removed from the options in preferences." And there was absolutely no mention of this on their support website. Why did they hide this?

So I switched to dialog box alerts. Totally unreliable. There was mention of this problem, however: Lots of suggestions on how to (spend a lot of time and) delete, rebuild, archive, save, reinstall, etc. All of that, plus clean system installs and more, and still I had unreliable "reminders" which were useless. To quote Matthew again: "Reminders for repeating events are not very reliable in our current release of Now Up-to-Date & Contact. We have done some serious work in 5.0.3 and hope to see them improve. Version 5.0.3 is due out in a matter of weeks." So I waited, then reinstalled, deleted, rebuilt, archived.... Again, no luck.

I should not have waited. After all my wasted time trying through several updates to make NUTD work I had to give up and use iCal to get reliable reminders. But Now Software has a 30-day return policy, so no refund for me. Instead of trying to make their product work I should have chucked it in at the start.

And there is still no fix on their support website. They cannot even find my email to them. Pathetic.
