JMH1  Having similar issues.

After crashes do you get a Send to Apple report?

I have noticed that the crash logs have numerous references to Flash

and Javascript.

While I think certain Flash versions might have there own issues as well...is your system Flash and Java up to date?

**...

JMH1  Problems I have with Firefox

1. Downloads from emails (for example, PDFs) are non-functional and broken up into dozens of parts.

2. Web archives broken into separate files and folders while the AllFiles option results in pages that do not render properly (i.e. text and html overlaps... pages do not auto-adjust).

3. Firefox often forgets Preferences settings such as HomePage, and Privacy settings.

4. Configuration of settings is cumbersome.

User Freindly Safari:

1. Downloads fully functional and intact files.

2. Creates fully functional Web Archives.

3. Remembers settings _And_ is easily configured or even fully Reset

with a minimum preference searching and clicking.

JMH1  One thing I have noticed is that Cocktail actually clears, virtually all current, log files.

Onyx acts like it clears log files and caches and runs routines but on examination of some of its actions, in my experience, they remain

unchanged.

Ironically, Cocktail has a harder time clearing Archived logs than Onyx does.

JMH1  Yes,

I understand this.

I was basically noting my observation with this, otherwise, excellent plugin.

However, every Mac I have used/installed to running

Panther has serious playback problems

with this version.

Examples:

12 iBooks G4, 3 iMacs G4, and 2 eMacs G4

(granted slightly old). Running QT 7.4.x.

The only solution has been to reinstall

version 2.1.

JMH1  How about fixing NAV 10.

Somewhere between original NAV 10 release and

JMH1  Dang, DW3 just fixed a problem that no other

program could fix...

I want to upgrade from 3.03 to 4.1 but I've got mixed feelings...I would also like to run a Quicktime version greater than 7.0x

After installing QT 7.4 I was revisted with the "unexpectedly quit" crashing bugin DW. It just does not feel right to have such a critical program crashing (regardless of the assurances that there is not problem).

And it just does not feel right to pay a 60 dollar upgrade cost for a broken app.

JMH1  I, just today, noticed a particular CD track encoded in itunes 7.5 with a number of drop-outs. I tried rencoding again making sure error correction box was checked. Both ACC and MP3 in iTunes 7.5.x were goofed up again.

iTunes 4.7.1 encoded this CD fine.

And.. Good News...iTunes 7.6 encoded this track fine!

So perhaps a bug was fixed...

JMH1  New version is troublesome.

I believe the latest version is actually 10.1.2 and this latest update has made NAV even more problematic than previously. Most of the time I have had to disable auto-protection in order to be able to eject disks, disk images and other volumes.

The latest version, with auto-protect on, now bogs the system completely when a disk image is mounted, necessitating forced _restart_.

NAV will not force quit and

force quitting the finder does not help....spinning,spinning beach balls..

JMH1  I like to defragment backup

dmg files before burning back-ups

of digital camera photos and Photoshop edited

files.

I really hope that the:

"Updated Volume Structures and Optimization routines."

adresses the very slow defragmenting routine.

For example, recently defragmenting a 2.6 GB dmg volume with only one fragmented file and only about half filled to capacity (using "files only" mode) took over 30 minutes!

How is it possible to take over a half

an hour to defragment _one_ file that cannot be over 20 MB in size(that is about the largest Photoshop file on the volume)??????!

Ouch

JMH1  No disrespect intended ... but, as memory serves,

every version (PPC and Intel) I have tried has maintained two fundemental crash profiles.

1. Quits upon clicking cursor on anything in the controller window.

2. Unexpectedly Quttiing on any manner of

quitting the applicatioin (File>Quit, Command-Q, etc)

ergo:Not an adequate substitute for DVD playback.

Its only advantage is the range of file type compatibility

OLIPOWER  On a sidenote:

I have an iMac G5 myself. first generation. It has quite loud fans, but some things have helped:

Reset the PRAM. See instructions on Apple's support site. It helps.

Use automatic or limited CPU in the energy saver system preferences.

Obviously, repair permissions and all that voodoo;-)

XSMURF  I haven't check so I won't comment. From past experience these are usually harmless version checks. If you are UNIX literate or at least not affraid of the Terminal get tcpflow (from fink/ports or there's a pkg somewhere -entropy.ch). It'll allow you to see what's the traffic on a specific port. Use LittleSnitch to know on what port the application is trying to connect. Hope this helps answers your worries. As for the dev, if it's not already, make sure you note this software update somewhere so as not to confuse your users.

TuneTech for iPod
May 25 2006
***..

JMH1  The only major repair function is Directory Repair (aside from permissions repair).

It seems to me that what this program needs is file and iPod Software repair routines.

Directory repair _might_ fix a problematic iPod.

But, in my experience it is corrupted files and corrupted iPod software that result in the need

to erase and restore the iPod ...to really fix iPod problems.

What I want is a TuneTech that can

repair an iPod so I don't have to

erase and restore every few months.

JMH1  O.K. I have decided not to download or use this product because this probably violates the spirit and technical terms of ones ITMS contract.

But the reason I am at least researching this concept

Besides I want something that " is easy to learn" "even if " I have already "mastered chopsticks"

Apple iPod Updater
Nov 30 2005

JMH1  for the record:

My first 40g was a definite lemon ( dead after about one week of use)

Apple replaced.

New one: no problems until yesterday (11 months of use) when suddenly, out of the blue

itunes 5 could not read library.

Pod still worked as disk

so I backed up files (disk mode) and restored.

Then down-graded to iTunes 4.9.

Working fine so far (one day anyway)

Very Scary piece of hardware...makes me shudder sometimes.

Going bankrupt, being attacked in alleys, earthquakes...

pale in comparison to the ominous threat of iPod hardware failure...but seriously>Mac only person..um...

also, I am afraid to update this unit beyond 3.0.2
