JLENNON314 The graphical problems that I mentioned before are gone. Now, it's a competent and enjoyable game, and a fun way to pass the time. When I finally get some extra money (it may be a bit), I'll buy this one. (Version 1.0.1)

SketchFighter 4000 Alpha | Nov 30 2006 |
JLENNON314 If they still have the OMG award, this should win for the year. This is certainly the most original game I've played in a while, at least graphically. It is intuitive, and is not difficult to control at all. There was no need to read anything for it, but there is a tutorial, and it is enjoyable in itself. Good job, you guys! I do not have the $19 registration fee, but it is definitely worth it. PS. this is marked as alpha, but I had not a single problem on my machine. (Version 1.0a1)

JLENNON314 It's very fun; very much like Katamari only with different graphics and slightly different controls. I didn't want to rate this yet, though, because on my computer (MacBook Pro), there are a LOT of graphical glitches. They aren't too distracting to me, but many people wouldn't be willing to pay for this until those are fixed. Overall, it's nice, a very Classic Mac feel and look. I like :). (Version 1.0.1)

Inkscape | Nov 11 2006 |
JLENNON314 This is just an update saying that, according to the site, there is a unstable build of Inkscape native for OS X. It is not publicly available. To all of those who are interested in Inkscape, but are frustrated by the requirement of having X11, there IS a Native version in the future. (Version 0.44.1)

JLENNON314 This is a lot of fun and has already started with some simple features. It works quickly for as many pictures as it may work with (depending on your library), and it makes some really awesome pictures. Something that would be fun to see in the next version is overlapping - something like being able to scatter the pictures all over each other. I understand this would be difficult, but I think that if you could do this, this would make a nice $5 or $7 program. (Version 1.0)

GAOSHAN Seriously! This is the first real mahjong I've seen for the Mac. Just so you all know, most of the so-called "Mahjong" games are tile matching games with mahjong pieces. About like playing Go Fish and calling it Bridge because it uses the same cards. (Version 1.2)

ERRORR Correction. This is in fact the 2nd real "wind" majong for Mac. There was one for OS 9 which was actually a better game than this. (Version 1.2)

MahJong Tradition | Jan 8 2007 |
My thought's exactly, as far as someone finally making something that isn't just a solitaire matching game. There was "Mah Jong Parlor" for OS 9, and also a Java version with a minimal UI. (whereas this is over-UI'ed!) (Version 1.3)

JLENNON314 The developer lowered the price of the program drastically (it's now $24.95). Not only that, but the developer communicated this change with me directly. I appreciate such a person willing to take the time to e-mail me about it. (Version 1.0)

JLENNON314 While I think that iTunes 7 has the best look of any of the versions to come out, this program does what it is promised. I have to give it 5's all around. Obviously, though, this isn't made for me, as I like the new pretty iTunes. (Version 3.0b2)

iScratch | Oct 2 2006 |
JLENNON314 This program does have a bit of a high price. And if you are a music afficiando, you will probably prefer the sound a real record scratch to this. But if you cannot afford a turntable, new needles every two weeks, and hundreds of records - or if you just can't scratch - this program is a great alternative. It lets you scratch any AIFF files (which iTunes can make from its library), so effectively you can scratch almost any sound file on your computer. There is no real learning curve. After a few seconds, I learned what each notation meant and how to manipulate it effectively. If you want to add some scratches into a sound file, and don't plan on doing it for a profession, then this is a good program. For the rest of us, or those strapped for cash, might wanna move on. JLENNON314 Absolutely entertaining, and an excellent way to go through the Wikipedia site without getting lost. Honestly, it's the "trail of breadcrumbs" that Wikipedia really needs. My only thing is that if I go back a page, it resets the page position to the top instead of where I linked from, which is rather frustrating. I hope and am sure that this will be fixed in the future. Want a great way to tax this program? Try going through a Wikitrip of the X-Men. Convoluted stories and character interactions is where this program really shines. (Version 0.5)

ProVoc Widget | Sep 22 2006 |
JLENNON314 A lot of widgets I find useless, simply because the work I do doesn't usually need dashboard. I have 4 widgets in my Dashboard. ProVoc Widget is number 4. It is an excellent companion to ProVoc, since it doesn't take up much RAM, and makes it easy to practice a few words between IM's, while a program is downloading, or while listening to music. I can even watch videos in iTunes with the Widget nearby and not feel distracted from either. Excellent program and design. I really admire these guys for all that they have put out. ProVoc | Sep 22 2006 |
JLENNON314 This is probably the best educational tool that I have found for learning new languages. I have used it since 1.7 to help me learn Italian and Spanish vocabulary. I've even used it to learn new words out of the English dictionary. This past week, I have used it to learn Hiragana and Katakana, and using it diligently, I learned the symbols for both "alphabets" in only 3 days. That may sound rediculous, but I recognize them about 90% of the time (not bad for only a week of exposure). Really, I find it hard to fault ProVoc. It is very simple to use, very flexible, and doesn't act up for any odd reason. It has never crashed on me, and has actually become easier to use with every release. Rather than become another target for people to scream "bloatware" at (which they do just way too much lately), each feature and upgrade has been very useful and greatly appreciated. Archibald | Apr 15 2006 |
Just...wow...that is all that I can say. This is possibly the best "drum machine" that I have ever used. I am into this and Doggiebox. Now, Doggiebox I use because it is simple. I mean, totally simple. Start it up and go. Archibald is NOT simple. At least, not at first. It gets easier quickly, but you kinda have to relearn how to do things for the first few times. But once you've gotten everything down in your head, it's powerful. The reason that it can be confusing and intimidating at first - it has 3 different properties with value ranges from 0% to 100% (2 for the bass drum). There is just so much variability and yet you have control over the chance occurances. Your Controls are over - Probability of striking, Velocity range for the strike, and attack range for where the strike hits. Hi-hat - Foot pedal, Open, and Closed Snare - Snare hit, Rim shot Play one bar (the one you're working on) or play the entire set. You can loop or not loop up to 64 bars. You can also easily change the amount of beats per bar. It works with ReWire, so if you have a ReWire compatible program, it works. However, it doesn't seem to work with Garageband's ReWire support (yes, Garageband does have ReWire support. Yayness!). Hopefully, that will be fixed sometime in the near future. Also, hopefully this will be made into a UBin. I would have GLADLY paid the 36 USD that it was worth before had I known about it. This is just a brilliant piece of programming, and I highly recommend it to anyone. (Version 2.2)

SeaMonkey | Apr 14 2006 |
JLENNON314 Though I will admit that Mozilla/Seamonkey is a bit dated as far as the looks go, it's gotten much faster (I remember just a year or so ago when it was as slow as you could get). And as an all-in-one solution - mail, page creation, navigation, and chat - it spins wonders around the rest. I use Camino, so I do not worry about RSS in a browser. No points off for that. Points are missing, however, for some muddling feature sets (for a quick "turn on/turn off" kind of person). Blocking of pop-ups and images, etc, are a bit confusing. I prefer Camino's quick and easy system. Points are also missing for customizability as compared to Firefox. I've never known Mozilla to have any stability issues, and I haven't had any problems yet. The new Universal works well, though it is a tad slow to start. No really big complaints, though. Mozilla has and will always be a more professional, office-intended browser with executives in mind, rather than just basic consumers. And it does its job rather well. (Version 1.0.1)

Adobe Lightroom | Apr 7 2006 |
JLENNON314 I have been absolutely impressed by Lightroom. I am not used to non-destructive work. In fact, I thought that it was just a buzzword; y'know, the kind of stuff that marketing people say to try to get people to purchase things that have the best descriptions. Non-destructive - I can close the program, come back to the same picture later, and still reset it to the original picture settings. No fuss, no hassle, no problems, and no worries about damaging my original data. Extremely simple, but powerful, the interface keeps out anything that you don't need, and puts everything you want right where you can find it. If you don't need what they think you do, you can take that off of your screen with a single click. Lightroom is VERY fast to start up on my MacBook (it is both a Universal Binary and a small application). Sometimes Universal applications have problems with stability on Intel computers; either they haven't been optimized well, or they were rewritten poorly. Lightroom has not suffered from this problem. Overall, the execution of the program has been excellent, and I am eager to see the price for the finished product. Hopefully, it will be within my range to purchase. Otherwise, I'll just have to save the money. (Version 1.0b2)

| Apr 5 2006 |
JLENNON314 Why is this important? Well, I just showed someone the whole "Install Windows on a Mac" thing, and guess what he did: No joke, he purchased a Mini (hey, it's a step). So yeah, this means that if we need Windows, we have access to it without having to go buy a second computer. I produce a lot of music and stuff, and while Mac has a lot of great things for music, a lot of it costs more than I can afford to spend. Windows has a ton of tiny free programs. Curious how your web page will look on IE? No need to ask someone to look at it for you, you can just reboot and switch. Personally, I see it as a great way for new people to slowly step into the Mac waters. And it's a great way for Mac enthusiasts to increase their productivity by enabling a fast, cheap way to switch computers. Not a bad idea. (Version 1.0b1)

Leaping Lemmings | Feb 8 2006 |
JLENNON314 I have tested this with 10.3.9 and it worked perfectly for me. The game is adorable, so adorable that you actually feel awful for missing any of the lemmings. Don't play it if you have a strong conscience. I would like to be able to use my mouse to control the net. Just using the left and right arrows makes it too hard to catch any lemmings. Otherwise, I enjoyed this game. I just couldn't keep playing it for too long because I felt bad for all the little lemmings. (Version 2004.07.26)

JLENNON314 This is one of those programs that I find indespensible. I mean, when it comes to ripping sound for loops, ripping video, and downloading individual chapters from DVD's, OSEx hands down beats any other program out there. Combined with FFMPegX, this is one of the best reasons to use a Mac. My only hope, is that they will Universalize this. Please, someone do this, as OSEx needs to continue to the Intel platform. Mellel | Jan 25 2006 |
JLENNON314 Everyone keeps commenting on how useful Mellel is for academic writing. But let's remember that there are other uses for word processors than academia. There are those of us who write novels, articles, etc. I personally use it to write novels and short stories. And let me just say that Mellel goes miles beyond the competition when it comes to writing outside of the business and academic worlds. Pages may be better when it comes to brochures, presentations, and other business-related writings. But when it comes to simple, fast work, Mellel is the best. It takes very little time to boot up, and the interface is simple enough that I don't have to worry about where anything is. This is very important if you want to be able to get as many words down in a day as possible (a big necessity for carreer and professional writers). There are many features that I do not use, but fortunately, they do not stare at me as I am working on my documents. This is nice, and if I used them, they are right there, ready to help me. There are some problems with the auto-hyphening stuff, apparently, but it works just fine for me. In fact, it helps me get what I feel is a more accurate page number when it all comes down to it. Overall, I think Mellel is one of the best word processors out there, and I don't just mean for Mac. (Version 2.0.4)

Battle for Wesnoth | Jan 8 2006 |
JLENNON314 Very well designed game, and now that it's all-in-one, it makes instalation much easier. It reminds me quite a bit of like Battletech (the board game, not the video game) or Civ, and it certainly makes a good lasting impression. Basically, you control a bunch of different fantasy-based units, like elvish archers and dwarves and orcs. You can either play campaigns, against the computer, or even multiplayer (with several options, and any network multiplayer is always a huge plus for free games). The graphics are enjoyable, and the 2D sprites are actually a welcome change from the 3D stuff that's being used (poorly) on so many games these days. I cannot rate the sound, because my music is off so that I can listen to iTunes, but that's just how I am. Computer video game music is just not usually my thing. You are even given a map editor for the game, although I'm not certain if there is a campaign editor. It may take you a few moments to get used to the gameplay, but after a few tries you get the hang of it. It's worth the time, I promise. (Version 1.0.2)
