JICHI  Best choice in Mac for those who always watch movies with Unicode SSA/ASS subtitles like me!

I hope there will be more options to render the subtitles in different ways (Currently (rev11) only resize is supported. ), such as options to change the transparency of the subtitle which is supported in Korean KMPlayer for Windows.

Anyway, thanks to the Author, I can enjoy my Anime collections in Mac now!!

JICHI  It seems that the UNICODE characters didn't display well here. I have uploaded above SFV/MD5 checksums generated by both Checksum+/QuickSFV to MegaUpload. Sorry for inconvenience!

JICHI  Thank you for your reply and your great job JULIFO! (Sorry that I accidentally click on the bumpDown button on your reply.)

The QuickSFV i mentioned refers to: http://www.quicksfv.org/

I am a Japanese Mac user. The Japanese text files are usually encoded in ja_JP.UTF-8, or Shift_JIS(sjis) in Windows. But because I study in the university, I set the global language to English and locale to en_US.UTF-8.

Here're the sample checksums for my ripped lossless CD generated both by the latest Checksum+ and QuickSFV. It would help me a lot if the UNICODE feature is included, and I am sure that as a result it will be more popular in non-english country like Japan.

JICHI  Well, this is my best choice for checksum utils in Mac. (Not because the software is marvellous, but there is no better one for mac. iSFV doesn't work for non-anscii charset at all!)

But comparing to quicksfv in Windows, there are at least two major drawbacks!

1. It can hash non-anscii charset like Japanese works, but chars in generated checksum are simply ????, so that I v to use vi to replace the filenames myself. Hope it will include UNICODE support in the future version.

2. It cannot recursively make checksum for a directory, but only files in the save folder.

Although it has those drawbacks, I still grade it 5 for it seems to be the only checksum software that can hash files named with non-anscii chars. Hope it will be better and better in the future.

JULIFOS  Can you point me to a QuickSFV file with Unicode support? Meanwhile, I will be working in a new format XML-based (ie, file.checksum+) with support for Unicode characters. But I'd be interested as well in supporting all QuickSFV's capabilities (I grabbed a copy and fired it in Parallels, but wasn't able to generate a sfv for files with Unicode chars??)

JULIFOS  Definitely I should find the way to make my own tests, as I don't find a reliable way to decode the quicksfv file. Seems there are some UTF-16 chars, but spaces, hyphens, dots and something else are left untouched... Maybe I shouldn't decode US-ASCII chars (ASCII 32 thru 126?) I'll take a look and let you know in this thread...

JICHI  It works very well! I use kill before which is much less convenient. Thanks to the author! And wish more functions would be added in the future.

BTW, I found this app by accidence. why not add this good stuff to MacPorts? Hence more people will know and use it and make it better and better.

MPlayer OSX Extended
Jun 10 2009

JICHI  MPlayer is good but hard to control; VLC is easy to control but inefficient in decoding and rendering. Hence MPlayer OSX Extended is the best for me, and just remind me of the KMPlayer in Windows.

I just visited the official MPlayer download page, but found "outdated" mark on the OSX 1.0rc2 version released on Feb, 2008. I really hope MPlayer and this OSX Extension will keep developing, and maybe one day will beat plex, vlc, qt and anyother player if new hard-coded support of h.264 for linux is also added to OSX version of MPlayer.

BTW, the compatible codecs for MPlayer and also MPlayer OSX Extended can be found here:

ILGAZ  For Mplayer guys, every single build which is not SVN (in case you don't know, a version system), daily, compiled by user is outdated.

They have good reasons for that since people keep embedding outdated mplayer applications or run horribly outdated stuff and send bug reports.

It is not related to this one, I am sure people spending such time on a GUI would really know "cherry picking" good builds. For this title, just ignore that "outdated" thing.

BTW, for them, "build number" matters and this one has real new build.
