JAMESKITTY I'm not sure I'd pay $10 for all of MySpace, let alone their instant messenger. I've had my MS account on Adium for 3 months now, and I haven't sent or received one message with it. NO ONE uses it. Not even my diehard MS friends. FaceBook on the otherhand... well I'm using it in Adium right now. (Version 1.0b)

Stuffit Expander | Sep 18 2008 |
JAMESKITTY Okay, with much laborious clicking around, I found that the changes for this version of Stuffit are: NEW! Duplicate Folding = smaller archives NEW! Expand 7-Zip archives NEW! Expand segmented Zip archives NEW! Preview archives within TimeMachine NEW! Peer in archives with Quick Look plugin NEW! Browse archives in the Finder like disks Assuming "Peer" is supposed to be "Peek", QL & Finder Preview integration could be useful (no idea tho if this is deluxe only feature or if it comes with the expander alone). But seriously... how many people create stuffit archives (!) that have enough redundant files within them to make a difference with duplicate folding? I've never heard of 7-zip archives, and have yet to encounter segmented zip archives... but I suspect I could find freeware solutions to either if it were an issue. Amazing how they can churn out a new version every two months and somehow think they've got a new product. (Version 13.0)

GANNET 7-zip is a modern *free* archive format with great compression and features. It has taken StuffIt a long time to add this basic support to Expander. But yes, there are of course freeware OS X products to create and expand 7z archives, such as 7zX. The backup and integration features you mention are only available with Deluxe. (Version 13.0)

My iPhone is of course only synced with one of them. Both macs have 10.5.3. Only the mac with the iPhone have this sync with Gmail Address Book activated.

JAMESKITTY Fed it a 512 px png file created in illustrator with transparency, it created a 512 px icon with smaller sizes embedded in it. exactly what i wanted (well, except that it skipped the 48 px size for some odd reason, but got the rest). (Version 0.5.1)

JAMESKITTY I fed the leopard version a 512 px png and it created a 512 px png file on the desktop with the icon at that size, but it failed to create the other sizes (128, 48, 32,16). so it essentially did what candybar already does. img2icns actually created the smaller sizes as well, btw. HandBrake | May 27 2007 |
JAMESKITTY I am loving the addition of presets, but unfortunately the bug that made Mediafork unusable exists in this new build of handbrake as well... namely that the audio drops a couple of minutes into *some* cds. I just ripped Face/Off twice with the same results: the H264 encoding slows wayyyyy down (from ~27fps on my system to ~7fps) and the audio stops 23 minutes into the file. Thankfully, I kept 0.7.1 archived on my system. (Version 0.8.5b1)

JAMESKITTY Seems like the biggest limitation of this program would be the unreliability of SMART itself. PEN_SQ I think it's just a matter of what you look at. SMART is pretty good at reporting how heavily it's eating into the spare block count, and once the first regular block is finally broken, the disk is done. Smart may not report the disk as totally No Good until the spindle is finally snapped, but I'm shopping for a new drive the moment the spare count drops. I wish/hope this program does the same. JAMESKITTY Crashed within 2 minutes of installing on my MacBook C2D. Further, I don't like the interface at all. And customization of it seems entirely non-existant. Further, its just loading webpages inside it's embedded browser. and those pages are rather ugly by today's standards as well. Further still, they're a bit misleading on the whole "myspace" integration, or any other kind of integration as far as i can tell. you may actually be able to use it as a chat application for other networks, but i couldn't find where with that ugly and confusing web 0.5 interface, and frankly it crashed when i was just clicking around, so why should i care -- let alone trust it to replace adium or ichat? and finally.... there's no upfront indication of their revenue model here. they say they're anti-spyware, anti-adware and that it's free, but how are they making their money? everyone needs to make money to stay in business, and the ones that don't tell you how are usually doing it in ways you don't like. oh and guys.... um subdomain names of "dude" and "meth" are not confidence instilling. if these are the things you're thinking of at work, i don't want to give you permissions or my passwords... oh shit. now i have to go in and change my msn, yahoo and gmail passwords. dammit. JAMESKITTY you are ASSUMING that SCR isn't crashing safari. but with SCR, crash. Remove SCR... no more crashes! maybe it's not directly conflicting with safari, maybe it's safari calling a third-party plug-in that SCR conflicts with... who knows. who cares. that's precisely the reason I try to keep this hack crap off my system, it puts me in an untested state where NO ONE knows what will happen. Version 1.0.2 installed with NO user notification, and everytime I launched my purchased program, it reinstalled itself (and believe me I reamed the developer of the software I purchased for that). The only way i could keep it from reinstalling was to create the parent folder with the same name, and deny myself permissions to it. AND, i read crash reports fairly thoroughly. Kind of a compulsive job hazzard. Which is the only way I knew this POC was there in the first place... in the active tasks list. I saw nothing that indicated to me that the report was going anywhere other than Apple. And if I can't see it, how the hell is an average user going to see it.... 1. third party developers can install this software without user permission or notification, and can repeatedly reinstall this software without user permission or notification. 2. any notification of it's presence, or the forwarding of data to a third party source is so hidden that a very experienced technician can't find it. It's a trojan, and a privacy violation all in one! i'm not unsympathetic to you motivations or your intentions for creating this program. i question your ethics and methods a bit, perhaps... JAMESKITTY why would ever have APE and DW on the same system anyway? DW is useless on the boot volume, so you're pretty much running it from the CD/DVD or making a bootable tools drive to run it from. Of course if you have APE installed, you're likely going to NEED DW to repair your volume from all the system crashes.... (Version 4.0)

JAMESKITTY Version 1.0.2 crashes Safari on 10.4.8 when Quicktime 7.1.3 loads certain plug-ins. Just like the other crap from Unsanity, it works great on the OS when they release it, but then Apple changes something and it causes all sorts of problems. Not apple's fault if you are using unpublished APIs, kids. Developers, please don't bundle this crap with your applications. It's a true disservice to your users. Besides.... isn't something that drops inside another application and sends a users data to an unauthorized third party a cause of concern for anyone? the words spyware and privacy violation come to mind. ROSYNA A few notes about your review. SCR isn't causing Safari to crash, it's appearing because Safari crashed. That's why SCR was created, to report crashes to the developer that isn't Apple. I'm not sure why you claim it is spyware or sending hidden data. SCR tells you explicitly the name of the developer the report is being sent to and lets you see all data that is being sent, allowing you to choose not to send it. This is because it's actually what Apple's crash reporter is doing. (Version 1.2.1)

PocketMac for Blackberry | Oct 12 2006 |
JAMESKITTY Version 4 does actually sync my address book contacts and ical calendar events Blackberry 8100 (Pearl), but it's temperamental. It loses the device often (requiring multiple removal/insertions of the USB cable). And syncing fails if a media card is in the device. And if you try to use the application uploader.... well it probably won't work and you won't be able to shut down your computer afterwards. And there's still no way to reset the system software. Blackberry support is some of the worst in the business. Doesn't matter what you ask them, they'll find a third party to refer you to. And pocketmac... well despite what they claim, they don't even seem to be answering emails anymore (been well over a week with no response to my initial request). Glad this is here, but man could it use work. (Version 4.0)
