Yes, you are completely right. And it makes completely sense to do it that way.

1. EPS stands for Ebay picture service, which costs you money. Therefore most people use their own server for image storage (or our free image hosting for non-store items).

2. If you use EPS, there are some additional options (like super size image), that will cost you an additional fee on top of the regular EPS free. Since you are free to use any size you want if you run your own server, there is need to offer EPS options if you are using your own server.
