ITBEDAVE  the last commenter is likely linked to Galerie - as he CLEARLY didn't read my post her not my posts on the Galerie forums - or just isn't interested in the truth.

The point behind the post had NOTHING to do with someone making money - but EVERYTHING to do with a software developer posting galleries of photos that MOST people would assume were being created for private use as part of their PUBLIC collection without CLEARLY disclosing ahead of time that they were doing it.

It has EVERYTHING to do with being up front, honest and transparent in their intentions and NOTHING to do with profit. I even said I would gladly pay for this software - it is good - with the exception that the authors are rude, inconsiderate, and not interested in feedback from their customers or their customer's privacy.

ITBEDAVE  I've recently had the need for something like this in order to batch process and watermark images for our club's website. I'm going to give it a try and will post my feedback after.

CallWall
Aug 4 2007
*****

ITBEDAVE  I've been using Call Wall for about a month. After only a week - I felt it was well worth it to pay the $10 registration fee during this beta period due to the fact that it works as advertised!

I have Call Wall setup on a MacMini G4. When the calls come in, it consults our Address Book and it's own Netlist of call abusers, plus the Blacklist and Whitelist I've setup within Call Wall. All you have to do is review the log of calls. If it's someone you don't want to get a call from, add them to the blacklist. Somone you know - click to add them to your whitelist. It's that easy. The next time a netlisted or blacklisted call comes in, your phone rings once and that's it. They're disconnected immediate - so it doesn't mess with calls you want to go to your answering machine or your fax machine.

You can also enable a voice response to callers if you have a Mac with speech capabilities. The message is customizable as well. I hope they will consider making these voice responses customizable to the caller - which would be even more helpful.

All in all - I love Call Wall! It couldn't be simpler!

ITBEDAVE  I'm very interested in this software - but I've yet to find a single review online anywhere from anyone who's used it under OSX 10.4 in a production environment of any kind. So I'm looking for real-world feedback.

I also wonder if - @ $249 - it wouldn't be more economical to purchase a used PC and the necessary software? Sure, it's more convenient to use directly from your Mac. But if it were a $99 plug-in, I would be more apt to diving in head-first.

ITBEDAVE  I just found out about this app and EUREKA - there's a deal on it! What luck!

I've needed something like this at home for my wife - who has a PC laptop from work and needs to share with my all Mac home network easily (and affordably.)And now it looks like this will be a great way to share files with a group of admins from my local collectors club. Looks like a great app - and I can't wait to get into it more!

ITBEDAVE  I downloaded and tried this app on a tip from an OWC newsletter. Overall, it's a great app! I like how much nicer it builds pages than iPhoto does on it's own.

That said - what it doesn't tell you up front is that, IF you use Galerie's comment feature (which allows you to let viewers comment on your photo galeries which are hosted on THEIR servers) - it also AUTOMATICALLY assumes you want to share your uploaded/hosted galerie with the world, and publishes a thumbnail and a link to your galerie on their "Gallery of Galeries" website.

Needless to say, this was a concern to me as I may not wish to share personal family photos with the world by default, nor do I need that kind of hit to my limited bandwidth.

THE ONLY way to keep them private is to go to your Galerie Administration page (which they send you a link to after you signup so you can use their feedback/comment system in with your galeries) and manually select each galerie you want to keep private. You then get a message saying their server will be updated with that preference within 15 minutes.

I went to the software maker's support sight and asked them about this, and why they wouldn't automatically, by default, assume people wanted to maintain their privacy and instead have them choose to share their galeries instead of basically forcing them to opt-out.

Unfortunately, my concerns were summarily dismissed as "trivial."

Even though this is free software - don't take your privacy for granted.

LUCKY8  Thank you Itbedave, for pointing this out. I read the forum thread you linked to, and was appalled at how you were treated. I think your concerns are quite valid, and being told off in such a rude way is unforgivable. Regardless of the issue, such callousness is reason enough for me not even to try their software.

GRANDDUC  ITBEDAVE got the authors' gander up by clearly insinuating that they were somehow making money from selling access to people's private galleries. That is no way to request a feature on quality freeware. No reason there to boycott anyone.
