ISHAN3  The preceding four reviews are a bit suspicious in terms of authenticity. The wording, flow, etc. are very similar. Having said that, I've tried the software. It works well, but alternatives like SuperDuper 2.0 and the freeware Carbon Copy Cloner work at least as well and allow you to back up all or part of your drive selectively, not just your home folder.

This is nothing special. It's cheaper than SuperDuper 2.0 but that's about it.

ERIC  Well ... I wrote one of those reviews and I can tell you I have nothing to do with any of the other ones.

Also ... your review is misleading ...

Super duper and Carbon Copy are generally used to make fully bootable back up drive copies.

iMsafe does not do this ... but it's great for what it does

In my case ... I don't have an external back up drive ... but I do have an iMac and an iBook. The iMac has a much larger drive ... so I back up the information I want to protect on the iBook onto the iMac with iMsafe.

You can choose any info within your account .... not just the whole folder. And you can have any number of these backups conveniently listed on your backup list.

I have found the interfaces for the other backup programs quite confusing ... not so with iMsafe.

For me its been effortless and easy ...

CAUSES  Yes, this is cheaper than SD. It's free. Great for what it does. For free. Keep that in mind please before posting such comments.

Apple MacBook SMC Firmware Updater

ISHAN3  Stopped the occasional mooing completely after 3-4 hours of continuous use. I don't notice any baseline increase in fan noise either. CPU temps appear unchanged on average (using the Hardware Monitor app) compared to the same time yesterday at home with same indoor temp.

Nice fix, Apple.

Typinator

ISHAN3  I've used both Typinator and Texpander (now TextExpander). TextExpander is not free-it's $30. For that extra $10, though, you get the menubar icon with an extremely convenient list of your shortcuts for "snippets", pictures and the like. I have perhaps 120 shortcuts, many of which I use daily (I know, I'm not very creative, but when you have to say the same thing over and over again, it's hard to stay creative). I can't possibly remember all the shortcuts, but a quick trip to the menubar and I have a complete formatted paragraph immediately pasted into my document. Typinator would be improved with menubar access to shortcuts. Then, it would be a very close race between the two apps.

ISHAN3  I'm having a very hard trying using this prefpane. There seems to be a default image associated with every color label, and once it's applied, you can't "cut" the image off e.g., a folder to restore the original generic folder. I also can't log on to the webpage (which is a mac.com address) probably because too many people have tried to so the same. Some guidance about what's new in the new version would also be very welcome.

ISHAN3  $15 is two fine fast food meals. For that, this app is really useful when making presentations on a large screen-to highlight certain topics, etc. It's also a lot of fun. The interface is a bit different as well.

For the price of a couple of Big Mac meals at McDonald's, I bought this app.

MenuTemperature

ISHAN3  I tried this on my quad G5, and it gives a temperature reading-of 32° F or 0°C. I don't think that's quite right... my machine runs cool, but it's not endothermic.Hardware Monitor says the temps are 119.2° F and 119.5° F, respectively.

I'll try it on my MacBook, but can't say I'm too optomistic

CHUCKER23N  "I tried this on my quad G5, and it gives a temperature reading-of 32° F or 0°C."

Would you mind e-mailing me your IO Registry contents? (In Terminal, type "ioreg -lw 0 > ~/Desktop/ioreg.txt", then send me the resulting text file on your Desktop.)

"I don't think that's quite right... my machine runs cool, but it's not endothermic."

It's definitely not right, no.

"I'll try it on my MacBook, but can't say I'm too optomistic"

I know several people who are running it on their MacBooks just fine.
