ISKIPPY I was actually going to mention the exact same thing, as my folks had to do this recently when going on vacation (and, of course, I volunteered to help them fill out their applications online). FYI: Costco has very reasonable prices for passport photos if you're a member. (Version 1.4b1)

Logitech Control Center | Jul 20 2008 |
ISKIPPY The Logitech updater recently popped up and let me know of a new version of the Logitech Control Center software (funny, I thought I was using the latest version). Wanting to make sure I was up-to-date, I went ahead and updated. Big mistake. It went and deleted all the individual application settings I'd made, so now I have to go through and try to remember how I had everything set up. To make matters worse, now I can't seem to get my MX Revolution to scroll the way it did before the update. Thanks a lot, Logitech. Your mouse is great but your software stinks. (Version 2.6)

Growl | Jun 7 2008 |
ISKIPPY After updating Growl and reinstalling GrowlMail, I found it still wasn't coming up in the Mail preferences. I removed it and tried installing again, and still wound up nowhere. A tip I found on the Growl forums got it working though. If you've installed GrowlMail and it isn't appearing in Mail's preferences window, open the Terminal and paste in this command: defaults write com.apple.mail EnableBundles -bool YES That should re-enable GrowlMail. At least, it did for me. (Version 1.1.3)

Adobe Flash Player | Aug 21 2007 |
ISKIPPY Granted, my computer is older (Sawtooth G4 upgraded to dual 1.2 GHz processors), but I've noticed the more I use sites that use Flash, the slower my Mac gets, until I log out or restart (looking at Activity Viewer, WindowServer will take up increasing amounts of my processors). After viewing an eight-minute YouTube video, my computer was all but unusable. At first I thought it might be related to Safari, but it happened last night in Firefox, too. I have no idea what's going on that making this happen, and, still being about three months away from the purchase of a new Mac, I'd like to know. (I should mention that I e-mailed Adobe tech support about this, and was brushed off with a 'call this number' reply. They don't bother to care, I won't bother to call.) (Version 9.0.60.184)

SWGS1 Flash wins for highest resource usage. And people wonder why there is no Flash plugin included with the iPhone. (Version 9.0.60.184)

Microsoft IntelliPoint | Jun 18 2007 |
ISKIPPY Colour me impressed. The first thing you will notice, as others have pointed out, is that Microsoft has finally implemented these as fully featured preference panes, rather than just launchers for applications. This is the way it's supposed to be; score one for Microsoft. Also, there are a lot more commands available to assign to either keyboard keys or mouse buttons. Exposé commands are now offered natively under both IntelliType and IntelliPoint, as are commands for Spotlight, Dashboard, and Front Row. I am quite impressed with this update. Say what you will about Windows and Office, but this is a solid driver and configuration package for Microsoft's hardware. (Version 6.21)

Tetris Zone | May 30 2007 |
ISKIPPY Whoops... look what happens when I make edits. What I meant to say was "cursing at yourself for sticking a tetrad (what they were called before they started calling them tetronimoes... see, I AM old-school!) in a lousy place is part of the Tetris experience!" (Version 1.1.1)

ISKIPPY UNDO? Maybe I'm old-school (I go back to Tetris on the old beige Game Boy), but cursing at yourself for sticking a tetrad (what they were called before they started calling them tetronimoes... see, I AM old-school!) in a lousy place. Undo... geez, what's with kids these days? (Version 1.1.1)

Wake Assist | Feb 19 2007 |
ISKIPPY My G4 hasn't experienced a single problem waking from sleep since I installed this a few days ago (it used to not come out of sleep at least once a week prior to installing this). Thanks! (Version 1.0)

ISKIPPY Pardon the double post. I just wanted to add that everything installed is Universal: the kernel extension, the preference pane, and the application itself. (Version 6.0)

Xconvert | Jan 26 2007 |
ISKIPPY Apple's Conversion widget supports a number of popular currencies, and I'm sure there are dozens of websites available for more obscure currencies (xe.com comes to mind), so why would anyone pay six bucks for this? (Version 1.0)

WeatherEye | Oct 3 2006 |
ISKIPPY Hmm... I've been using it for the last week or so, and it seems to be working okay. I have the WeatherEye software installed on my work PC (it runs in the taskbar), and I had trouble with it all day; it didn't seem to want to connect to the server. Perhaps their server was down or something. (Version 1.0)

ISKIPPY This looks like it's hardly changed since I played it on my LC back in '93. Apologies to the author if you're offended, but it wasn't worth $25 then, and it certainly isn't worth $25 now. (Version 1.1.2)

ISKIPPY Thank goodness. My mother just bought an Mac mini Core Solo with the Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 to complement it, based on my recommendation. Needless to say, I caught hell when the included drivers (5.x) didn't work properly. She'll be thankful to hear compatible drivers do in fact exist. (Version 6.0)
