HUBBERBUBMAN  The App does what it says.

I was looking for an altrnative to FanControl since it acted quite strange on my MAcBookPro.

The automatic adjustment of fan speed corresponding to the temperature is the feature the macBook needs to run cooler, because by default the fans kick in at 80 C, which is already quite hot.

Unfortunately on my computer the automatic- mode seems to work randomly: it would ignore the given lower threshold and right away speed up to 2500- 3500 rpm, which under normal use is already quite noisy.

I think iīll switch back to FanControl and just deal with itīs random freakouts.

Fan Control
Jun 18 2008

HUBBERBUBMAN  I wanted to add to my previous posting that I could identfy FanConrol as the culprit.

I deinstalled it completely, reset the SMC and ran my MacBookPro 2 weeks without it.

None of the earlier described symptoms showed up.

Though the Computer was a lot hotter.

So I decided to reinstall FanControl and deal with itīs failures. Just have one right now. However.

If someone can help me, please speak up!

thanks

MACUPDATE ADMIN  I don't know whether you've tried this utility instead of the one you're using, or if this will even work on your Mac, but you might want to try it:

Fan Control
Jun 13 2008

HUBBERBUBMAN  FanControl - Fans out of control!!!

First of all - FanControl is a brilliant product which is essential for those using a laptop.

But iīve experienced quite strange problems lately:

The symptoms are the following: Sometimes without any indication of cpu- stress or high ram- use, high temperatures of the CPU or GPU, the fans start speeding up until their maximum (6000m rpm) and remain in that condition forever or quite a long time.

FanControl does not seem to work at this time . Itīs readings do not correspond to the behavior of the fans.

Almost everytime i have to shut down the computer an let it rest for several minutes. A immedient restart would leave the fans spinning at the same (maximum) speed.

Iīm running a MacBook Pro (santa rosa, 2007), Mac OS X 10.5.3.

I think FanControl needs an update - pleaze Mr. Developer??

thanks for your help in advance

iPhoto to Archive
Jun 3 2008
***..

HUBBERBUBMAN  Tried it. Iīm not really impressed since it doesnīt do something which you couldnīt do without it.

You can as well export your photos to a folder and then Zip it or put it into a DMG.

The plugin just combines these feature and gives you some options how to archive.

For me it would be far more important to have some more control over the limited export- options offered by iPhoto.

Iīd need a possibility to export my photos into a folder - hierarchy corresponding to my iPhoto- Library- Hierarchy including FOlders, Subfolders and Albums.

iPhoto Library Manager

****.

HUBBERBUBMAN  Excellent Software!

Iīd like to suggest just one more essential feature that would make the whole concept complete: to extract a complete library into a folder system corresponding to the album hierarchy within the iPhotoLibrary.

That would be sooo useful to me. i know it is possible because there was a PPC app around which unfortunately doesnīt work on my intelmac.

Please, Mr. developer!

iPhoto Library Manager
Aug 4 2008

NIGEL2112  May I suggest that copying album hierarchy is the whole point?

If you shot Raw photos iPLM does NOT copy both the raw and processed jpeg, only one or the other. This means that if you have raw pics and tweak them (which iPhoto then saves to the jpeg version in the Modified folder of it's library) iPLM is still incapable of moving BOTH to a new library.

Unfortunately, (and please correct me if I'm wrong) this shortcoming renders iPLM not much better than iPhoto Buddy. If you need to copy between libraries just use iPB or export to a folder on the desktop, restart iPhoto (with Option key held down) to pick your other library and copy folder that to the iPhoto window.

I suspect it is not possible to copy album hierarchy from library to library, or the dev would have done it.

But if he can do it, he'd have something worth paying for.

I wish Fat Cat success in accomplishing this.

NIGEL2112  Ok. I stand corrected!

The email I received from the developer stated quite clearly that iPhoto Library Manager DOES indeed copy file hierarchy.

Thanks!

FruitMenu
Feb 26 2008

HUBBERBUBMAN  I really love the "gather in new folder" CM - itīs funny how something that simple and useful enhances the finerworkflow,

But as a former reviewer mentioned...I also woul prefer the haxie in the first level of the contextual menu - but i guess thatīs something far more difficult to program, isnīt it?

I also hesitate purchasing Fruitmenu because Iīm a bit worried about APE. After every kind of Macosx Update there seem to be problems occurring because of APE.

Anybody who can ease my headache?

HUBBERBUBMAN  Well and whats for me important: no encryption support for archives.

A reason to stay with an other utility, which does a lot more of things and provides a free quicklook plugin for all(!) kind of archives!!

HUBBERBUBMAN  I really used to love Transmission `til Version 0.82- Since then I had router and connection issues, which forced me to use Azureus.

Donīt get me wrong - i really like the concept but it seems thereīs a bug the developers donīt find out about.

Again with good hope I installed v 1.0.3 and again low downloadspeed and an additional crash at exit.

Sorry, but Iīll wait for better times.

HUBBERBUBMAN  Onyx does everything i need to customize and maintain my OS. Except one thing: Hiding the Icons on the Desktop, which I really find useful - pleaze dear developer, include this feature which only can be found in MacPilot (which is not as straightforward as Onyx!!)

Never had any issues.

Deleting homefolder? - Must be a joke - thereīs not such a feature ; )

Thanks Mr. Dev

HUBBERBUBMAN  Well i really would like to have a little App like this - maybe theres even a simple script that does the same..Fact is, that MoveTunes ALWAYS removes the selected songs from your Library, wether you choose the option or not. Sorry but it just doesnīt make sense!

Dear Developer this issue is substantial - fix it and I reconsider...thanks.

WOODEN BRAIN CONCEPTS  This has been thoroughly tested many times on several systems. Nothing is supposed to be removed if the "move instead of copy" option is NOT checked. (and if it IS checked nothing should be removed until it is copied and added back in the new location). If this is happening it is obviously something that needs to be fixed pronto. But to do this I need more info and your cooperation troubleshooting. As always, please email woodenbrain at kagi dot com.

HUBBERBUBMAN  I say WOW! Itīs boosting my soundsticks to another level of Quality. For the CPU- eating issue: minimize the SRS window (also the level indicator) and close it completely - itīs still running altough not visible.

There you go: eating between 10 - 15% on a MBP 2.4 for brillliant sound!

VERYCARLA  I've noticed this as well. I suppose it's just the amount of CPU it needs to do its thang. I can't complain too much. The only time I notice anything is when I try to do a file copy in the system. iTunes gets...sluggish. Of course, copying files usually brings the system to its knees anyway, so it's not terribly surprising.
