HARRISTYPE There are ways of letting the customer create their own DVD. Take a look at iDefrag from Coriolis Systems. They released a free (for purchasers of iDefrag) DVD-making utility (Coliolis CD Maker) that will create a bootable DVD with iDefrag on it. That way when they release an update to iDefrag, the customer can immediately make a new bootable DVD. The way Micromat does it, and charges $10 for 5.0.4 to 5.0.5 update is a racket at best. HARRISTYPE I won't rate the new QuicKeys 4 since it's still in beta and I'm still testing it, but I love the changes they've implemented. Text expansion is a very welcome addition and long overdue. Also the web features look interesting, but I still haven't tested them out yet. For those that are converting from version 3, QuicKeys 4 will import and convert your existing shortcuts, but it will make a backup of them and place them in a folder on the desktop in case you need to revert back. So far, so good... (Version 4.0b (62))

NICKSLOAN Actually I quite welcome the new icon. It's not that close to the Incredibles, and the old one was certainly very lame. More to the point, some of the new features look excellent. Very glad to see this app getting attention. (Version 4.0b (62))

Isolator | Apr 24 2009 |
HARRISTYPE This has already become an indispensable item in my menu bar. The app works flawlessly and, unlike other utilities that try to do similar tasks, handles multiple apps and Apple's Spaces intelligently. The only feature that I can see that I'd like to have added is an applications exception area in the prefs. That way when I bring up calculator while looking at an Excel spreadsheet, I can have it so that calculator doesn't trigger Isolator, and I can still see the spreadsheet info in the background. Other than that small feature request, this utility rocks! (Version 4.0)

HARRISTYPE I completely agree. Finally a review that doesn't take cheap potshots at those who simply didn't like it. Every app under the sun has its supporters and detractors. I was an original beta tester, and unfortunately it wasn't for me. For what it did, I thought it was too expensive, but for others, I can see it be an invaluable app. The only reason I got involved with this discussion was because of the childish behavior of another reviewer and his insults just because some of us didn't like the app, or didn't agree with him. Kudos to the developer for his continued updates, and maybe someday, when it has the features I need, I'll take another look. It was never because I couldn't afford it. (Version 2.1b)

HARRISTYPE This program simply amazes me. I've been using it now for over 10 years, and the amount of time it saves me in repetitive tasks is phenomenal. The ability to create custom palettes is very essential to my workflow at work. I design 2 different magazines for a non-profit organization, and have macros set up for many different phases of design. One macro has 27 steps, and completely formats the magazine text, and takes a just few seconds to complete, instead of me having to do it manually and possibly forgetting a step (a couple of minutes at least, and it adds up). Highly recommended for anyone tired of doing the same computer tasks over and over. To me, it's worth every penny. (Version 3.2)

SOHO Notes | Apr 18 2007 |
HARRISTYPE Lord Lightning: Can you back up your claim? Do you only have one or two notes to manage? SOHO Notes is a key part of our design business. We manage thousands of notes including databases of the serial numbers we own, business info, notes on design projects, etc. It also stores files, photos, pdfs, and websites, and all can be found quickly using the FlashNote feature. The DockNote feature is the most innovative feature of all the note-taking programs, and it adds an outstanding clipboard recording feature to boot. Version 5.7.1 was a bit buggy but still worked. I contacted the developer and they instantly sent me a beta to try, which fixed the problems. If your needs are simplistic, then I suggest looking no further than Apple's own Stickies, or even the free xPad. But if you need a complete note and file management system, then SOHO Notes is the best of the lot. I'd much rather drive a Sherman tank than ride a unicycle. GAOSHAN NeoOffice is a better user experience than OpenOffice(OO) mainly because its interface (Java based) is more Mac like than the X11 based interface required by OO. Since NeoOffice is OpenOffice in a Java wrapper you get basically the same functionality. So, if you like X11 (and let's face it... who does?) you will be fine with OO.
