HABANITA  Maxwell,

I make free softwares in order to help everyone (including me) improving his workflow and his mac experience.

As I spent days of labor on Magic Mail Folder, I do not appreciate that a paranoid preacher come and put into doubt my work. If you had read the previous comments you would have learnt that MMF has been certified by softpedia for being free of any spyware. Plus, with a minimum of effort you could have browsed the ruby easy code (which is availabe into the app packet) and see if something is suspicious. That would have helped a serious and useful review.

Nicolas P.

FMAXWELL  HABANITA:

I am sorry that you took my comment personally, because that is not how it was intended. Just the opposite in fact: A stranger is giving me an app that is asking for my gmail address and password. I don't know you. I'm suspecting that you're probably a good guy, but I am a computer security professional and I'm concerned.

You will note that another reviewer, BCARTER, wrote: "Not really interested in supplying my Gmail username and password to this app/developer."

I did not examine the code line-by-line (and neither does Softpedia, which has a huge disclaimer in their terms of service).

I did note that the package includes an encrypted SMTP module (smtp_tls.rb) and I'm thinking to myself "if this thing is doing everything through the gmail web interface, why is there an encrypted SMTP module in here?" Your load_prefs script has been saved runnable, meaning that the Apple script editor can't open it. It doesn't appear that the application is using Apple's keychain, so I don't know if my account name and password are being saved in a secure manner.

Sorry if all of this angers you, but I'm trying to do my due-diligence here.

HABANITA  A new image-disk has been built.

It should work without frightful warning.

HABANITA  What you have seen in the console is nothing else than the scheduled work of MMF, just like any other of the hundreds of operations that are sequencially dealt by your system. Also MMF needs no memory. It's running on my G4 Mac-mini for more than one year now without inflicting any lag (i use it also on my eeepc-linux machine without problem)

HABANITA  Same to me (i am the developper). It is related to the way my disk manager compiled the dmg, it's not related to the app.

TOMDOHERTY  Yes I'm afraid ...no doubt about it. Just tried it a few minutes ago and still getting v1.0. The downloaded file name says 'Magic Mail Folder 1.1.dmg' but the content yields v1.0. Here are the content details: Name Magic Mail Folder .app, Size 860 KB on disk, Created 01/04/2008 03:37, Modified 06/04/2008 00:02, Last opened --, Version 1.0. There are 2 other files in the download - (1) Name Read-me.pdf, Kind PDF Document, Size 192 KB on disk, Created 09/04/2008 08:11, Modified 09/04/2008 08:11, Last opened --, and (2) Name Télécharger Growl.webloc, Kind Web Internet Location, Size 76 KB on disk, Created 27/03/2008 02:45, Modified 27/03/2008 02:46, Last opened --. All of the above file names and info exactly match that of the my existing v1.0 which I've had since last April!!. I hope this information is of some help to you in resolving the issue. Thanks

HABANITA  The app has been updated and partially re-written. It should work fine now, for everyone and (hopefully) forever...

And as a reply of the previous comment who wondered "can this not work with mail app" ? Well, as a deamon, MMF becomes part of the system. No need to fire up Mail App. Any folder (with an email formated name) is ready to post any kind of documents. For what it does, it is a way faster than Mail App (see the test-speed video).

HABANITA  Have u tried some other dmg files to see if this issue doesn't simply come from your system or your way of downloading ?

Here's a new-new link (the software is zipped - it's not a dmg) :

Good luck !

HABANITA  Hi everyone !

MMF works fine for 99% of users but it seems that sometimes and for some reasons it doesn't work.

To help me make it work for everyone, if you encounter any problem, please email me at :

magic.mail.folder@gmail.com

...and tell me what is your error message or dysfunction, your OS and everything that could matter.

Thanks a lot !

HABANITA  Hello,

It seems to me that you are not facing a big issue... at least it's something easy to solve, i just need few more details.

What is your os (10.5 ?)

Can u tell me where is your file (the one you wanted to send) after the error message ?

Have u tried with other files ? Other recipient folder ?

here's my email : magic.mail.folder@gmail.com

I am sorry for the inconvenience... MMF is still at a beta stage and - with your help - i hope to get it work for everyone !!

Can u tell me more ? I'd like to fix this. Here's my email : magic.mail.folder@gmail.com

Which OS are u running ?

Do you log as root on your Mac ?

If you spotlight "MagicMailFolder_pref.txt" - do you get something ?

Thanks again,
