Matlab

****.

GREGWELCH  Among other things, R2008b makes Matlab an OS X package, so it looks like a "real" OS X application.

"Value" (rating) is hard for me to judge because my university has a site license.

While there are things to complain about, I for one am very pleased to have it on the Mac, and working quite well (albeit a little clunkily) for my needs.

I added a cancel option to the installer in the first dialog box that someone would normally see. (I already had them in other places where you could actually cancel.)

The point about "follow up" vs. "followup" is a good one. I might change that in the future.

GREGWELCH  I am really impressed with this update, both in terms of the intergration w/ the Mac OS (nice), and the speed. This is significantly faster on my MacBook Pro, so much so that it seems "natural". The previous version really monopolized my machine when it was running. Not this one, so it seems. More time/usage will tell.

Version 1.0.1 has a bug fix that might address this problem. I hope! (The description of the user's problem sounded like the problem the 1.0.1 fix addressed.)

This sounds like it could be a known issue, which is addressed on the plugin page. Please make sure the "Number of Recent Items" setting for Documents in the Appearance panel of the OS X System Preferences is NOT set to "None." It should be set to 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, or 50. Otherwise normal copys and moves will not function properly. (Setting it to "None" does not make sense if you are going to use the plugin, but it should not break moves/copies. This will be fixed in the next release.)

I hope this fixes your problem. If not, and you still want to use the plugin, please contact me directly (welch@cs.unc.edu) so I can look into it with you.

I have no idea what this person's problem is, as they have not attempted to ask/contact me. I am not aware of anyone else (of the hundreds who use it) having a problem with the plugin.

GREGWELCH  My apologies. Version 1.0.1 (just released) should fix the problem.

What happened? The plugin was erroneously relying on something in the Mail Act-On plugin, so anyone who did not have that installed, experienced a crash. I actually did have several people help me test the plugin before I released it, but unfortunately all those people had the Mail Act-On plugin installed, and so none experienced the crash. 1.0.1 was also compiled as a universal binary, but not tested on an Intel machine (I don't have one).
