Speed Download
Mar 16 2008
*****

GRANDDUC  Speed Download is that rare exception, a software you were (almost) sure would be redundant that turns out to be one of the shining stars in your daily routine. Every phase of downloading is taken care of in a most intuitive and efficient manner. And the people *are* responsive. Highly recommended.

GRANDDUC  ITBEDAVE got the authors' gander up by clearly insinuating that they were somehow making money from selling access to people's private galleries. That is no way to request a feature on quality freeware. No reason there to boycott anyone.

GRANDDUC  Difference from Pando: recipient does not have to be a client. Pricing: individual usage is free for 25MB storage/100MB transfer. All very clear.

GRANDDUC  This download is exhibiting a very strange behavior.

Appears as dmg.ZYgDtP in Safari's Downloads window, and won't open. What gives?

MACUPDATE ADMIN  Downloads just fine here, it would appear that the issue is local to your machine.

REGGIE ASHWORTH  Hi GRANDDUC! :D

This is Reggie the Developer. I wasn't able to duplicate your issue and so far it's the first I heard. I'm thinking maybe because it just went online? And MacUpdate actually added it first then I switched the hosting over to MacUpdate so maybe somewhere in all that it just got mixed up??? I hope it works now if you re-download? Please let me know...sorry about that!

Thanks so much...you can reach me through my website on the "Contact Me" page...

Sincerely,

Reggie

GRANDDUC  uApp weighs in at 372 Ko, unzipped; AppZapper, 1.6 Mo. How could the first possibly be a stolen clone of the second? Maybe alean version of an obese sibling?

Stuffit Expander
Nov 28 2006
*****

GRANDDUC  I am perfectly happy with SE. It has served the Mac community well for as long as I can remember, and the Expander has always been available at no cost. They may have been somewhat pushy in their marketing strategy in recent years, but this Universal Binary version is immediately downloadable, and no email is required. So please, store the sour grapes, guys: this is a good app., and free.

GRANDDUC  This is incredibly (in view of the size of the app) useful. Makes 2 column Finder replacements pretty much pointless. You get all the versatility of Finder windows plus an instant setup for inter-windows operations in either superposed or side-by-side format. The simplicity of the concept is just beautiful!

TechTool Pro
Nov 3 2006

GRANDDUC  Worth noting, this precision on Micromat's site:

"Owners of version 4.5.1 of TechTool Pro will not need to update to version 4.5.2 unless they have acquired a new Mac model that is not fully supported by the earlier version of the program. "

Cooliris Previews

GRANDDUC  Works well with French version of Safari. Instantaneous preview is a really priceless feature when doing research (it would become obtrusive if applied to all links). Many thanks to the developer of this!

iWebUploader
Aug 1 2006

GRANDDUC  The assertion that "iWebUploader is the first software designed for uploading iWeb sites on a FTP server" is false. There is an excellent little donationware called Easy iWeb Publisher, by Scott Finney (prettymuchsoftware) which does just that, and in a a simple, elegant and practical fashion, very Mac-like. iWebUploader seems easy enough to configure, but it crashes when I try to paste an address in the Server field.

GRANDDUC  Bless the day, and Nicholas Riley! How I've missed this little critter. Command-clicking into URLs and Email adresses is a breeze, but the real deal-maker is the Services Menu in the Contextual Menu: Services are almost useless to me under File.

And what a deal: this is free. Lovely.

A word to the wise: there is an amount of fear mongering about Application Enhancer Haxies in the sometimes paranoid Mac world. After years of use I can affirm they have often been a boon, and never a bane. As Universal apps they have deen redesigned anyway. Do yourself a favor, and give them a try.

SteerMouse
Jun 16 2006

GRANDDUC  Warning Logitech users!

You may find yoursefl unable to use Logitech's driver once this is installed, even if you disable SteerMouse. To recover the use of Logitech Control Center (which I prefer with the Marble Mouse trackball), you must uninstall SteerMouse from its own Help Menu.

GreaseKit
Feb 14 2006

GRANDDUC  Greasemonkey is a very powerful tool, which allows you to fix website annoyances or add desired functionality missing from a site. Additionally, the scripts can bring content from other sites and resources and embed them into the page you are viewing. For example, you could create a script on that pulls the current Amazon.com price for a book when visiting a competitors site. You can use Greasemonkey to view Amazon's price right beside the competitors within the browser.
