On a Mac, the gameplay is smooth. I lost many years of my life to the 3 X-Com games back when I was a PC user (and young). This game does do justice to those wonderful games, kudos to the developers. There are some things to look out for, however...

- Multiplayer doesn't seem to find servers on the internet

- Some text (English) for the game is just filled with the phrase "TODO" meaning they haven't gotten to it yet. This includes the first two man-made fighters based on Alien Tech, and a mid-game scrolling text to further the story along.

- There are bugs, like the imagery of your soldiers in fighting mode don't reflect the soldier currently selected.

I also don't know if it is me, but the Standard mode feels too easy. I find myself building bases just to waste all of the loads of cash I am given, and there is very little alien fighting. I am a huge veteran of the games, I worshipped them and was an expert, so maybe I am biased, but who knows.

This UFO:AI game, in spite of the above, has consumed me again. I'm older now, and it brought back good memories and an old addiction. It is a version 2.2, which means it has a LOT of stability and great development. The graphics are good, and so is the AI.

Version 1.1.2 has a *lot* of updates, way more than a point release normally does, which is great, but there is one big thing missing from the App (IMHO).

I cannot choose a Color in a very specific way. There is no way for me to enter in an exact RGB, or CMYK value. I have to rely on my mouse and dexterity to pick from a color swatch palette. It is kind of "inexact" and unprofessional.

However, the rest of the app is great and getting better each and every release. Keep up the good work.

For those who need a work around to this load issue, use the instructions found here:

http://forum.freeciv.org/viewtopic.php?t=3444

It explains how to save and load games on Mac OS X using Freeciv server

This app is *good*.

And, it will get better as it appears that the developers are dedicated to making it so.

A lot of reviewers compare it to Photoshop, and so does the developer if I am not mistaken, but let's look at the app for what it is first: a $50 piece of software based on Apple graphics APIs.

Look, that's a great start. This App is going places, and at $50, that sure does beat $600 for Adobe Photoshop CS3.

There are some issues with this app at the time being, but it is *useful*. Besides, it is only at version 1.1 Go ahead and load up Photoshop version 1.0 and take a stroll back in time. This app is great and cheap, and has a lot to offer at this time.

The game saves your saved games, on Mac OS X, in the following directory:

~/Documents/Freeciv/saves/

It names them civgame-XXXX.sav.gz where XXXX is a randomly generated number.

However, the game doesn't seem to look there when you try to load a saved game. The dialog box for "load" is not full of files. So, no saved game can be loaded.

Great Game! However, it has a showstopper.

It won't save or load your locally played games. Nothing is more frustrating than playing for an hour, saving, and coming back later to load it when you see that no saved game exists.

This is a known bug on OS X Intel since August 5, 2007. The developers need to work on that. A game that doesnt save or load. Ugh!

Love it. This 2.2.1 release is amazing, with the new features it adds.

Now uses the Native Mac OS X Spellchecker and Address Book, Handles most Office 2007 files, which current versionsof Microsoft Office for Mac don't do.

Uses native Aqua menus.

No X11 software is required.

Native Mac Printing support, and clipboard support.

And, it's free.

I give it an a lower rating on Ease of Use because its menus mimick MS Office, which are not as easy to use compared to the iWork suite.

My Mac Mini Core Duo no longer automatically connects to our house's preferred network. Yet, a an old PowerPC based laptop with the same 10.4.8 OS will still do so.

This update to 10.4.8 seems to break automatic Airport network connection on our Intel based Macs.

Otherwise, everything is working fine.

This update breaks support for the Brother HL-1440 printer. If you use that printer, beware, keep a copy of the older firmware handy or do not install this 6.3 update.
