FREQUENCY  Good for you Thunderclap. I'm delighted you like the software and the company.

However if you read any of the discussions on MacHeist you would know that this whole problem isn't about money. It's about honesty.

So before you go namecalling 40,000 people because you disagree with some of them, just think again.

FREQUENCY  I haven't seen one response yet from Yazsoft which addresses the question of their upgrade policy change on the DAY of the 5.0 release.

If their upgrade path was clear at all times from the beginning of the MacHeist promotion why did their site only add the clause:

"MacHeist purchasers are NOT elegible for Free upgrade"

on the very day that the 5.0 upgrade was released.

YAZSOFT SUPPORT  We've addressed this yesterday:

This is also posted on various forums. Overall, we're happy with the response we've received and are continuously to support the Mac Community.

FREQUENCY  Gary,

You've missed the point entirely. It's not about the amount of money it's about the principle. Whether it's 10 dollars or a million dollars if one party reneges on an agreement in the underhand way that Yazsoft did then that's cheating, illegal, unethical and bad business.

And if you believe insulting MacHeist users with your childish taunts is the mature way to respond then you should think again.

FREQUENCY  Yazsoft have finally shown their true colours as "bait and switch" scam artists by specifically stating on their site that they WILL NOT support MacHeist customers.

They've a made a very bad situation much worse.

FREQUENCY  I'm afraid I don't accept the backtracking here by Yazsoft. The full history of the problem is listed on the MacHeist forums including screen shots to prove that Yazsoft altered their website today once their scam had been discovered.

What Yazsoft has done is unethical profiteering.

FREQUENCY  Unfortunately the company Yazsoft now seems to have welched on their agreement with MacHeist bundle purchasers and is refusing to honour free upgrades to those people who bought via MacHeist.

Can't really recommend a company that uses such underhand "bait and switch" tactics.

FREQUENCY  Another app that looks really promising but it's potential has been severely limited by a short-sighted developer.

Al most all of the preferences are greyed out so this is essentially useless.

Beware! Vaporware!

WebNoteHappy seems like a better option.

FREQUENCY  I agree with Leo. It does seem a lot to pay for a desktop changer. It is really well done and the desktop images are well designed but why would you pay for this?

A better revenue model would be to offer the app for free and to insert discrete paid advertising on 1 out of 10 desktops or something like that.

FREQUENCY  Looks really interesting but the interface is strange and the performance quite sluggish. If this was under $10 it might be a runner but not at $20 and definitely not at $40.

I'd be interested in version 3 or 4 if interface improvements are made and more realistic pricing applied.

Contactizer Pro
Feb 2 2007

FREQUENCY  I've had a quick look at this application and must admit I'm quite impressed. It has a smooth intuitive UI and clear functionality. Screen area is maximised for your data and it's very mac-like.

Window switching can be a bit sluggish at times.

The developers are obviously looking to steal some markket share from Daylite but IMHO there are a couple of hings they need to do to seriously put a dent in Daylite's lead.

1) Some kind of support for projects. May be as simple as allowing tasks to be grouped in project folders.

2) The price. Even if the price is reduced by 20 or 30 bucks the perceived value will be greater. It will be a no-brainer to buy Contactizer if it was $85. Pricing it above $100 puts it in the same space as Daylite which still has far more features.

Billings
Dec 13 2006

FREQUENCY  I'm with you on the badmouthing thing...well not badmouthing exactly but sure as hell letting all potential customers know if a developer/company has really bad support. Bad reviews for Studiometry literally stopped me in my tracks from making a purchase.

I think a lot of people can see the potential for better integration between Daylite and Billings - it COULD be THE killer app. There are some discussions to that effect on the Marketcircle forums to which I've added my voice.

On the iRatchet front - I think it did originally have a bigger feature set than Billings 1.0 but now they are pretty much level. However the way these features are displayed in the interface is the difference. When you open iRatchet you basically see everything which can be daunting. Billings wins on that front.

As I said on the Marketcircle forums if they were able to integrate Daylite and Billings seamlessly, make it sync fully with iCal , Address book etc and add a GTD-like workflow I would buy it in a heartbeat. I suspect I'm not alone in that either! : )

Billings
Dec 13 2006

FREQUENCY  Yes, I was in a similar situation a while back trying to decide between Billings, iBiz and iRatchet. I eventually went with iRatchet, a decision I don't regret as Mike has always been great on support and answering questions through the forum. iRatchet is however let down by it's interface and invoices.

I had a look at the beta of Billings 2 and was impressed by the improvements over the first version. However as Oliver said there are some simple additions that would really enhance the usability of both apps - one i'd really like to see is the ability to create folders in both the project and client windows. This would allow easier management of one-off versus regular clients.

Billings would also benefit from a better range of import options if they hope to tempt users away from other similar applications. Also Marketcircle need to develop better support as the current level of "bad press" they are getting for support is very much offputting for potential new customers.

I'll be keeping an eye on Billings for the next while but I'm not ready to abandon iRatchet yet.

Midnight Inbox
Dec 8 2006
**...

FREQUENCY  I hate to chime in with a "me too" response but unfortunately I have to agree with the general opinion that this is a "nearly there" product rather than an outright winner.

Like others I'm disappointed that Inbox doesn't work very well as it does have an excellent interface. the documentation is also lacking - I still haven't figured out how to move items from one stage to the next - from Collect to Process etc. The Collection process can be really slow and while it hasn't yet crashed on my iMac G5 it's performance leaves a lot to be desired.

I hope the developer takes all of these comments as constructive and continues to develop Inbox into the "killer app" that it should be and that I for one hope that it CAN be. For now it's back to my imperfect SOHO notes GTD kludge!

Studiometry
Sep 21 2006

FREQUENCY  As a potential new customer I have to admit I am slightly worried by the comments on the lack of technical support from this company.

Studiometry looks like a great product but as somebody already mentioned trusting an unsupported application with business critical information is not a good idea.

I had a look at the support section of oranged.net and found that a lot of the articles in the knowledgebase linked to non-existent or removed posts on the messageboard.

I'm looking to trade up from a much simpler app called iRatchet for the additional functionality that Studiometry provides. iRatchet is a great little app and well supported by another one-man development team.

MJDTH  We have created a whole new section of our site for Invoice Templates (http://templates.oranged.net) which is the only thing that our help files linked to the forums for. We are also working on custom forums that integrate with our StudiometryLink and our templates databases.

If you'd like to view the templates, you can now do so at the new section of our site.
