Developers need to live and frankly are not your slaves. Thirdly, if you don't like it, don't use it or alternatively make a freeware version yourself. Before engaging your mouth put your brain into gear.

Type: CommentsDate: 24 Nov 2007 13:55Installed fine, works fine BUT still splashes jagged blocks of colour over the desktop. The only cure is to "Sweep" a sufficiently large enough widow over the crap and it gets wiped out. Since the last upgrade I've done an archive and install plus a reinstall and the same crap occurs. I suspect but am not sure, that its because I have the X1900 XT video card installed on my Mac Pro (Dell 30" Monitor). I've also installed 10.5.1 since the last upgrade. Hope the uncommunicative Parallels team are reading this - its the only way to communicate!

Type: CommentsDate: 16 Nov 2007 01:29For me 10.5.1 brought back being able to save ALL of a printers presets. When you have 4 trays to print from, its nice to be able to make a preset for each of them and have them saved. Obviously (and understandably) 10.5 was a little rushed but as usual, it didn't take long for Apple to start bringing out the fixes. My only concern now is what the next generation of OSX is going to be called - we are running out of big cats! Perhaps sales would skyrocket if the next OS X was called Pussy?

Type: CommentsDate: 24 Aug 2007 18:24FINALLY! Shared applications now works on my Mac Pro with X1900 XT Graphics Card. Not without some agro though. I found the windows boot failed just short of bringing up desktop icons and start bar. I had to close down, restart in Safe mode (F at startup), boot into safe mode with networking and restart windoze. At this point, Parallels quit. I then repaired permissions, restarted and finally it worked. What a rigmarole. What a pity these guys hide behind a huge communication firewall. One would have thought they would value feedback but apparently their ego is hidden in a dark place and we are just punters to them. Shame, its turning into a decent application DESPITE their best efforts.

Type: CommentsDate: 18 Jul 2007 16:42Parallels Revisited. To be fair to the uncommunicative Parallels Developer, I revisited installing the latest verson on my Mac Pro 2.6GHx Quad running OS X 10.4.10 with 4Gb RAM and Radeon X1900 GT video card. After yesterdays failure, I repaired permissions, ran the installer, restarted the Mac, opened Parallels from the applications folder, installed parallels tools and restarted Win XP Pro SP2 with updates. After the restart, parallels unexpectedly quit. I restarted it again and everything was fine. I would therefore recommend this installation method to those who have had no success with this latest iteration. Hopefully the developer reads these reviews, it may be the ONLY way to communicate with them.

Type: ReviewDate: 17 Jul 2007 17:03The usual "Fraught with worry" install. Version installs OK but during the Coherance 2.0 update, it consistently crashes. I'm sure these guys operate on a wing and a prayer. Surely they should test a new version on all Macs? Coupled with the fact that its impossible to get a reply from the Parallels team, it actually sours the parallels experience. By and large, its a great programmed marred by a terrible communications problem from the developer. MacPro 2.6GHz Quad

On my Mac Pro, 2.6GHz QP,4GB Ram,X 1900 Xt video, Dell 30" Monitor plugged into DV2,Kensington Expert mouse and BT Apple Keyboard, OS X 10.4.9 with latest updates,I have found the following for those folks whose system crashes after installation of Parallels tools on a Win XP Pro-SP2 system.
I have definitely tracked it down to that part of the installation that is contained within the installation of
I cured it by booting into safe mode with networking (Press F8 at start-up) and navigating into /Program Files/Parallels/Parallels Tools and removing to the Recycle Bin, the whole contents of that folder. Next restarting normally, Win Xp comes up normally. Next Install Parallels Tools using a custom install. By a process of elimination I found that installing everything EXCEPT
provided the fix. Also during my investigation, I found that Parallels explorer does NOT allow you to rename or delete files. On my system it just quits.
In the absence of nil support from Parallels, I hope this will prove useful to others experiencing the same problem

Its impossible to get replies from either - so I wonder if some intelligent and helpful person out there can tell me how to get VMware Fusion to recognise a Windows XP Pro-SP2 Enterprise edition install CD? Type: CommentsDate: 4 Feb 2007 14:04Goodbye old friend.
I have been a retrospect user since Noah built the ark but it is patently obvious that EMC2 or whatever they call themselves this week, has lost the plot, lost the initiative, dropped the ball and have turned a sturdy wonderful product into a dinosaur. I have realised lately that with hard drives becoming cheaper and more reliable that to pursue either a raid policy or a daily cloning to another hard drive is the way to go.
Thank you for the support you have given in the (distant) past but I fear we are to say goodbye.

I appreciate the comments but would also repspectfully suggest you take my comments regarding "Half the Price, triple the profits." I have consistently found that selling products for less will result in greater sales, therefore generating a greater profit in the longer term. The more people will buy your product, the more they will recommend it and your sales figures will reflect that change in strategy.
Why not try it say for three months, with a suitable advertising campaign and see for your selves.
Good luck.

Type: CommentsDate: 29 Dec 2006 12:44I continue to applaud each new version of Parallels as it goes on from strength to strength. My only complain is that when I restart from suspended mode it always gets to the end & restarts and I lose network capability. I have long given up on suspend mode as I have been unable to get any guidance from the developers. Having said that, I have no problems at all if I just shut down windows each time. Being a bit of a perfectionist, however, I do look forward with suspense, to the day a cure is available. Developers - please communicate!

Type: TroubleshootingDate: 18 Nov 2006 01:07Since Installing version 1970 on my Mac Pro 2.6 Quad (4Gb RAM), Parallels has worked flawlessly. When finishing with windows, I habitually suspend operations. Since installing Firmware update 1.1 a few days ago, every time I start parallels, it crashes towards the end of the restoration process. If I stop windows at the end of each session and rerstart upon booting paralles, everything is fine. At the developers suggestion I reinstalled Parallels but its still the same. I can only assume something happened to put a glitch in Parallels as a result of the change in parameters following the firmware update.

Type: CommentsDate: 9 Oct 2006 22:33Be that as it may, there are over four hundred commentsand/or revues, the vast majority of which are positive. I also have to say that Microtek have always given very poor support for their scanners in Mac OS X. Probably its best to move on and dump all the Microtek scanners in the ocean and buy a Canon, which do offer good support. They are as cheap as a dozen eggs these days anyway.
Concluding on Vuescan. Many years ago I bough the application because I did have a Microtek scanner, which I have long since dumped. In all the years I have used this programme, it has served me well and I have appreciated all its features and seen the application grow.
That the interface isn't full of pretty pictures doesn't faze me as a professional, its the operation that is important to me.
Finally, when you are considering cost look at how much a separate OCR application will cost and factor that into the cost of the Vuescan application.
No one application can satisfy everyone so I guess the fact that the programme has sold overwhelmingly well speaks for itself.
Last of all, I do not work for, or have any association with, Hamrick Software

Type: CommentsDate: 7 Oct 2006 22:21I hope I'm wrong but this new version appears to require another US$99. I purchased the product a year ago and now it seems I must pay again. Seems a bit unfair, even an upgrade fee would be good.
Prove me wong guys.
![]()
Type: CommentsDate: 5 Oct 2006 17:01How dare you criticise Mr Hamrick for continually updating his programme? This is without a doubt the most updated shareware programme on ANY platform and shows the authors dedication to his product. I suppose you want him to update it twice a year, not taking any notice of new models or reported bugs?
I have used this software for may years now and have corresponded with the author on many occasions.
I know him to be a dedicated shareware author and comments like yours, written without thought or any depth, can only damage the reputation of a most excellent application.
AND - its not slow but you may be slow to realise this.
Before opening the mouth, engage the brain.

Only one thing doesn't work and that is the number keypad on my Apple bluetooth keyboard. Kensington trackball works fine.
Finally the developers have come to the party - well done!
![]()
Type: CommentsDate: 7 Sep 2006 17:59Thanks for that - glad to know I'm not the only one champing at the bit! Things are somewhat frustrating as good communication is hard to achieve with the developers, who seem to be in Bulgaria if I have got my facts right.

Type: CommentsDate: 7 Sep 2006 15:48Oh for an update that is Universal Binary. PV now stops working on my new Mac Pro. Seems like part of me died!
BTW Harware Growler DOES NOT do what peripheral Vision does - its only a halfway house. On boot up it brings a new window for each connected device and if speech is enabled, at startup its a cacophony of noise as each of my 19 external devices is mentioned.
PV is simply unique and I wish this talented author would "come alive" one more time and make a uB version thats going to work on Intel Macs now and in Leopard for the future.

Type: ReviewDate: 7 Sep 2006 14:16On my MacPro with 4 Gb RAM. How can the makers of this application state it will work up tp 3.5 GB RAM? RAM in the MacPro has to be installed in blocks of four for maximum speed benefit. That means, 1Gb, 2Gb,4Gb,6Gb or 8Gb. It looks as though these guys are out of touch and are doing real harm to a product that was starting to look very promising. Type: ReviewDate: 15 May 2006 00:02I have been using this VERY useful app and have always received a fast and courteous reply to any queries from the developer. There may be other apps out there that do the same thing but stability and longevity are worth more than dollars.
You will also notice that the developer has completely re-written the app and hasn't asked for more money from the people who already own it.
I think its a bit scathing to rate this app as adequate without giving the new, rewritten app a thorough try.
Careless remarks sometimes costs money. For my book, it does what I want, has done for years and has never once crashed.
In my book, that deserves top marks.

Type: CommentsDate: 1 Nov 2005 05:02Well, there seem to be quite a few "mixed" reviews. It seems to me that EMC have purchased the software with the intent of righting a few wrongs and for that they deserve a chance. Personally, I would say that if they are serious about bringing Retrospect into the 21st century, they should be able to do so by, say, another six months. If by then they haven't done something radical then I would agree that they are purely trying to milk a monopoly market.
Having said that, I have been using Retrospect for years, backing up to a variety of devices and it has always worked for me.
The other thing to mention is that there has been ample opportunity for others to write a better application and whilst a few have tried, none have achieved the sophistication that Dantz/EMC have.
In conclusion, I'm adopting a "Wait and See" attitude and I am optimistically hoping that either EMC will "do the goods" or somebody else will come up with something better.

If you want a reason for buying, just look at the OCR part of the programme & look at the cost of the commercial alternatives.
Yes your logic is flawed - go buy a quill pen and ink and then you will have the cheapest option at your hand.

Type: CommentsDate: 12 Sep 2005 13:45You know its only $8.95, I cant see what you're whinging about. I guess if you want to save money, why don't YOU write a similar programme? I can tell you, you won't get rich from it and the number of hours you have to put in won't even come near getting reimbursed

Type: CommentsDate: 28 Jul 2005 16:59I took the time to send an E-Mail to the developer, respectfully suggesting that POPMonitor was due for an overhaul. This is his response
Unfortunately I've had to postpone the development of POPmonitor 3 for an undetermined period of time. The economic situation here in the Netherlands is not as great as it used to be so I have to focus on more profitable
activities right now.
I can't tell if and when there will be a release of POPmonitor 3.
Sorry...
Thats probably the most irresponsible reply I have ever had but at least it clarifies matters and leaves an opening for a developer to bring out a similary product.

Type: CommentsDate: 19 Jul 2005 13:58For me, if it cost $135 I would still buy it. The amount of time that it saves is worth it! (And I am someone who doesn't fork out money lightly) I'm going to try out your recommendations

(1) Buy it
(2) Don't buy it
(3) To rude to mention

Type: CommentsDate: 8 May 2005 19:30Its not 3.0.3 at all - its still 3.0.2 which is no use to the many Tiger users planetwide. This is not like Alsoft at all, who are usually up with the play. I'm sure they would have had (should have had) developers version of Tiger for long enough before it came out to have a 10.4 compatible version ready.
C'mon you you guys this is not the Alsoft we know and love and Diskwarrior is the ONLY repair toll in its class so please hurry up!

Type: CommentsDate: 4 May 2005 02:24It would show real intestinal fortitude if those critics who hid behind the anonymous label would at least say who they are. As a matter of record, there is no need to turn on the Daily religious text, as Mr Anonymous claims. This small app has been around for many years with no complaints that I have read.
Oh - if he doesn't like ugly frames, could I recommend plastic surgery?:-)

Type: CommentsDate: 28 Mar 2005 23:00I'm trying to get this program to work but it doesn't show up in the scripts/folderactions folder as per the authors website. There seems to be no way to contact the author and I very much wish he would provide an E-Mail address
