Type: ReviewDate: 1 Jul 2008 22:11Oh by the way... 5 stars (almost) all the way. Just hope the features requested (listed on the apps google code page) get implemented.
Couple more request... better app icon and document icon? Maybe make the documents look more like books or stacks of paper? Right now it looks like a single sheet of paper and is exactly the same as the app icon. For the app, I have no idea. Looks a bit dull. Hope someone with artistic skills can donate time and talent on this.
Other than that, still a great app and the work is much appreciated.

Type: CommentsDate: 1 Jul 2008 12:32I don't have any real problem with the name. I am curious as to how you came up with the name though (what it means, etc., besides the obvious CHM embedded in the name), since it is a somewhat strange looking name.
Glad to have an updated CHM reader, not that Chmox is horrible in any way.

Type: CommentsDate: 24 Apr 2008 18:01Correction... mouse integration works, but my Wireless Mighty Mouse scrolling doesn't. Hope I can figure out how to solve this.

Type: CommentsDate: 24 Apr 2008 17:57To ease your mind, I just installed VMware 1.1.2, then installed Ubuntu 8.04. It seems VMware Tools is integrated right from the start. The installation already had the mouse integration (where I can move the mouse between the VM and Mac desktop). After installation, everything worked; sound, network, optical, USB, mouse, and video worked without any problems so far.

Type: CommentsDate: 15 Apr 2008 09:07Like I said in a previous post, if you think NeoOffice is slow, you haven't really tried MS Office 2008. NeoOffice was faster in my testing. This on a Macbook with 2gb of RAM.
My comment regarding OpenOffice.org going aqua... remember, they're basically releasing a 1.0 product. Which means it's gonna have a lot of bugs. NeoOffice, on the other hand, has had quite a big of usage already. It's been used and tested since it's Aqua Beta release on August, 2006. Almost 2 years ahead of OpenOffice.org in my humble opinion. =)

Type: Hint/TipDate: 15 Apr 2008 01:25You can also download the latest version through here:

at least, that's what I did.

Type: CommentsDate: 24 Mar 2008 14:09NeoOffice isn't built with Java. But it does use it for rendering stuff like the menubar, and the general interface. But the code of NeoOffice is still OpenOffice.org, which means a bunch of C (or is it C++?).
So Java is definitely required.
FYI, if you think NeoOffice is slow and clunky... you haven't tried MS Office 2008. It's slow to launch, and beachballs at certain times, with the fan on my sister's MacBook going full blast. NeoOffice actually launches faster. In fact, MS Office 2008 doesn't feel any faster than MS Office 2004, despite the fact that it is a Universal Binary. Although I must say that PowerPoint transition effects are quite nice.

Type: TroubleshootingDate: 24 Mar 2008 14:03I see the problem as well. Looks like an OpenOffice.org bug, rather than a NeoOffice bug. I suggest you do the following:
1. As I don't have OpenOffice.org handy, if you do, test it with that (even on Windows or Linux) and see if the bug occurs there.
2. If you don't have OpenOffice.org to test with, go to the NeoOffice forums to have people there test it.
If the bug occurs with NeoOffice only, file a bug in NeoOffice's bugzilla.
If the bug occurs with OpenOffice.org as well, it's most probably an OpenOffice.org bug. You should file a bug report with them. As always suggested by NeoOffice people, don't even mention NeoOffice as OpenOffice.org developers will close the bug without looking at it if you mention NeoOffice.

Type: CommentsDate: 29 Feb 2008 18:16Just wondering where MacUpdate got it's binaries from, as I still don't see any in the official mirrors. The only binary that's generally rc2 is from haque.net. I'm just wondering as the download link points to macupdate.com servers and not from external servers.

Type: ReviewDate: 14 Jan 2008 21:47Finally updated for Leopard. Was planning on doing it myself, but realized I do not have any coding skills at all.
Great little menubar applet that just simply shows whether I have an Internet connection or not. I personally set it to "Small Aqua Spheres", which looks great on Leopard's (and Tiger's) menubar. That, in my opinion, would be a better default than the bigger globe icons.
One wish: customizable servers for checking the external IP. There are plenty out there to choose from. And I'd love to setup my own for my personal use.

Type: ReviewDate: 12 Jan 2008 01:49Aside from the looks, this is probably one of the best FTP client on the Mac right now. It's fast and stable. I've migrated from Cyberduck because Cyberduck doesn't have the 2-pane interface I am used to and need to properly manually sync up folders.
Things that do need fixing:
1. Icon theme! The icons are replaceable... I hope someone creates Mac-looking icons for this.
2. The Site Manager interface is horrible... too Windows-ish. Could definitely use some simplification and usability improvements.
3. General UI look... most probably because of wxWidgets.
4. Site Manager doesn't use Keychain. Not a requirement, but would add to security, as right now FileZilla uses a plaintext XML to save everything... including passwords.

Type: TroubleshootingDate: 13 Nov 2007 14:52To make it work with Leopard, just do the normal patch through the interface. Then when you're done and you've closed the program, open a Terminal and run this (it's all in one line, no quotes):
"/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -f /Applications/QuickTime\ Player.app/"
If you're curious, the command above is mentioned here:
http://trac.perian.org/ticket/163
Note that I haven't actually tested it yet. But logically it should work since it's just specifying the correct patch to lsregister.

Type: CommentsDate: 12 Aug 2007 18:49Great utility for web developers. I've been waiting for it to update to the latest W3C Validator version.
My only gripe is that I wish it would save window settings (ie. window size and location).
Thanks for the great work!

Type: ReviewDate: 15 Jul 2007 06:29Great editor as always. Was the only editor that didn't choke on a 16mb .sql script I had... although that was probably because TextWrangler didn't automatically use syntax highlighting on it.
Overall, easy to use, generally quick and light on the resources, and just plain great.
Wishes to give this a 5-star rating:
1. Directly edit files in the Disk Browser view... right now I can read the files, but have to double-click (or press Enter) just to edit the document in a new window.
2. Tabbed-document interface... the drawer is getting old and useless.
3. Code Folding... although I'm sure Barebones wouldn't want that in a giveaway.
Otherwise, still a great editor. TextMate may be getting all the buzz, but when money's tight, or you just can't justify ~$65 for editing text, this is the way to go.

Type: CommentsDate: 29 Jun 2007 12:54iTunes 7.3 finally fixes the blurry CoverFlow scrollbar affecting MacBooks...
and that's the only thing I bothered to notice... which is a good thing since iTunes is still just as good as ever.

Type: TroubleshootingDate: 15 Jun 2007 01:17If you want to switch between windows of 1 application, you use the shortcut "CMD-`" (that's the Apple key + the reverse apostrophe key, next to the number 1, right above the Tab key).
Pressing CMD-Tab switches between applications and not between application windows. Or is that not what you were asking? =)

Type: ReviewDate: 14 Jun 2007 07:50So far so good. I only need this to run Linux servers for development, sysadmin-ing, learning, and testing. Works just as well as on PCs. I paid for the pre-order price of $40 without hesitation.
The only thing I hate about it is that, just as with the PC versions, you have to click on the screen to be able to type on a Linux console. With Parallels, as long as the window has the focus, I can type straight away. This only affects me because I install all my Linux VMs without any GUI.
Of course, I had to weigh in on whether to upgrade to Parallels 3 (I already bought 2.5), or pre-order this. What made me decide on VMware Fusion?
1. More VMware info available online (due to plenty of Windows and Linux users. I believe the VM engine is basically the same.).
2. Share VMs between other VMware products. Definitely useful when it comes to sharing with a PC user (VMware Player! and VMware Server!).
3. Parallels support sucks (although I haven't actually interacted with VMware support yet. But see #1. That and I believe they employ a few open source developers).
4. Beta 4 already works great!
Please remember, I use this exclusively for virtualizing Linux, not Windows.

Type: ReviewDate: 11 Jun 2007 15:26So far so good on my Windows machine. I'm sorry I just don't have the guts to test it on my Mac at the moment, but I most probably will.
Anyway, feature wise, I like the "tab moving" feature. As well as dragging out tabs to create new windows. And I love the inline search that highlights what you've searched. Nice and easy way to see what you're looking for.
Watch out early testers. There seems to be some sites that don't render correctly at the moment.

Type: ReviewDate: 4 Jun 2007 11:17Works great. Can validate both local HTML, locally served PHP, as well as remotely accessible locations. Wish it also had CSS validation built in.
It works like a web page embedded in a window though. But for what it does, it does it quite well. Maybe adding an address bar would help with those times when it seems to have gone to a page that doesn't have the address bar displayed.

Type: CommentsDate: 27 Apr 2007 09:23It seems that this is still beta. At least that's what it looks like from the download URL. It doesn't seem to be announced on Flip4Mac's website yet.
Anyway, if it's beta maybe it should be noted as such.

Type: TroubleshootingDate: 13 Apr 2007 06:26Seems there's a bug with 2.6.2 where pressing the "Resync" toolbar button will always show all your Address Book entries as "New Item".
Anyone else seeing this?

Type: CommentsDate: 16 Mar 2007 13:06With Actiontastic being released as Free and Open Source software... maybe it would be best to join forces with that project's developer(s) and make a really grand GTD app? Two free GTD apps that might do the same thing in almost the same way seems like a waste of effort to me.
And if my comment is out-of-line... then just ignore it... and keep up the good work!

Type: ReviewDate: 14 Mar 2007 03:40Features - I find the addition of more supported devices for iSync a feature. I'd rather they provide plugins in a more timely basis rather than having to wait for a major update just to support the latest phone.
Ease of Use - Regular style install. No problems whatsoever for me.
Value - Always great to get updates for free. I'd wish 10.5 would be free but that's just wishful thinking.
Stability - So far, I haven't had any problems. All my apps still work (and that's a lot).
As always, good (but not great) update.
Running on the lowest-end Macbook 1.8ghz Core Duo.

Type: TroubleshootingDate: 6 Jan 2007 23:23Ever since I've switched over to a MacBook, I've noticed that Buddi runs a little slow. It says on the MacUpdate page that it's a Universal Binary. But when I look at the Get Info page of Buddi.app, it says it's a PowerPC app. I know it's Java based, which should be cross-platform, but even Cyberduck shows it's Universal.
Other than that, still a great app!

Type: ReviewDate: 5 Nov 2006 02:03Absolutely great and simple personal finance application. It's fairly simple in that to track finance, you just have to transfer around amounts between expense types and accounts. It's a lot easier and efficient to use than my old way of using a NeoOffice spreadsheet to track everything. Plus great simple piechart reports.
I only wish it could get multiple currency support (per account).
An additional plus for people who cherish their data... Buddi is multiplatform. Which means you can transfer around your data between (almost) anything that can run a Java 1.5 app. Something I absolute require with anything that deals with very important data.

Type: CommentsDate: 23 Oct 2006 13:07What would make this a killer app for me is if it could integrate Formulate's PDF overlay code so that we have a nice and simple PDF "editing" app that's free.
In case anyone wondered what Formulate is, just do a search here. It's a nice PDF overlay-style editing app, with a weird interface. This + that would be wonderful.

Type: ReviewDate: 15 Oct 2006 01:50So far 0.8.5 doesn't work well on Intel Macs. It exhibits a green diagonal line in the video output window. The nightlies are fine, but there are some stability problems there (audio sometimes doesn't work; at times the app itself is too slow on my MacBook).
I've since switched to using the combo:
- Perian
- A52Codec
- Flip4Mac
- NicePlayer
- MPlayer OSX
for playing all my video needs. At least these work very well with what I have.
If VLC gets right back on track with version 0.8.6 or whatever for Intel Macs, I'll switch back in a heartbeat (or probably not).
![]()
Type: ReviewDate: 15 Oct 2006 01:47This, together with Perian, NicePlayer, and MPlayer OSX, completes my video playing requirements for probably any type of video (or at least those that I do play).

Type: ReviewDate: 15 Oct 2006 01:46Absolutely wonderful app. Does all your burning needs. I particularly want this for the DVD Video burning feature alone.
My only question is... when I've burned a DivX video into a DVD Video, I can play the video fine on any DVD player, but I can't seem to fast-forward or rewind. I'm not exactly sure if this is an issue with my video, or with the way things are converted. I've converted a DivX video using iDVD and I can scroll through the video without any problems.
Otherwise, great app!

Type: ReviewDate: 30 Sep 2006 13:39I've been looking around for a package like this for quite awhile now. Windows already has the K-Lite Codec Pack. Thank goodness there's Perian for Mac OS X. This, together with NicePlayer (and Flip4Mac) makes the perfect combination for video playback. It's a little more to install versus just installing VLC or MPlayer, but it seems just a better combination. Particularly on an Intel Mac, as VLC doesn't seem to do well with certain files on Intel yet.
![]()
Type: ReviewDate: 30 Sep 2006 13:13NicePlayer, together with Perian and Flip4Mac completes my video playing requirements. Although a lot more to install, it currently beats both MPlayer and VLC (on Intel) by a wide margin.

Type: TroubleshootingDate: 19 Jun 2006 12:43Based on forums on Stellarium.org, it seems that the framework SDL_mixer is also required (available at http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_mixer/). Type: Hint/TipDate: 29 Jan 2006 09:24Here's a little tip... get the latest revision. It now has support for passive scanning using Airport Extreme cards. Some say it requires at least 10.4.3 and the AirPort Update 2005-001 from Apple to work.
As of this writing, the latest available revision is r76. There is a prebuilt binary package available as well for r75. I got r76 from http://www.ethicalhack.org/downloads.php . Of course, if you don't trust the source, compile it yourself.
