FIREMIN  Have had no particular dramas with this app. The only 'non responsive' events seem to be when my phone company's data feed fails rather than the app itself. It has the common things that I use on Facebook i.e. photos, birthdays, Wall/News, Notifications, Friends, Profile etc.

Lightsaber Unleashed

FIREMIN  Uses the iPhone's accelerometers to create movement based light sabre sounds. Hilarious fun for any Star Wars fan. Sweeping movements create the classic light sabre humming swoosh. Sudden movements simulate a strike or clashing light sabres. : )

FIREMIN  Ditto: Not in Australia either, but then they did shut a huge number of their stores here recently. Maybe they can't afford the free advertising an app like this provides?

Audacity

*****

FIREMIN  Audacity has been the audio app I keep coming back to when I want to fiddle with a file. Has worked fine for me on every 10.x OS including Snow Leopard. Imports and exports a range of formats. I've found it very useful for adjusting a files audio level so it plays louder on a phone, or even just to trim down a file to the bit I want.

Air Mouse
Oct 29 2009
****.

FIREMIN  When I had a Nokia phone I used Salling's Clicker to make the phone a remote. Air Mouse is a great replacement now I've gone iPhone. In both Trackpad and Air modes it works well. I'm still fiddling with the sensitivity, but am happy with it so far. The four customisable key stroke combo's are very handy! Very useful app if you want to, for example, control a Keynote / Powerpoint presentation without having to stand at your computer!

Calico

FIREMIN  I use Calico as my standard pano creator. It has generally produced better results than some of apps supplied with specific cameras. It hasn't always worked for me but that is probably more to do with my poor photography, not lining up multiple shots correctly : )

GPSBabel

FIREMIN  GPSBabel has been part of my 'GPS Apps' folder ever since I got a Mac capable GPS. It does what it says: simple conversion of GPS files between formats. Very handy if you need to get data from a proprietary format into one that you can fiddle with, or, for example, convert to kml to view on Google Earth.

The "Babel Fish" of GPS apps : )

GoodReaderUSB

****.

FIREMIN  Designed to integrate with the GoodReader iPhone app, this provides an alternative to loading files to your iPhone by WiFi. Instead you use USB and get a GoodReaderUSB folder appear when you open GoodReader on your iPhone. It didn't really advertise all that in the promo, but it does it reasonably intuitively. The GoodReader iPhone app is quiet capable (as it claims) of handling reasonably large files in a variety of formats. GoodReaderUSB provides another handy way of getting your files to and from your iPhone.

Apple AirPort Utility

*....

FIREMIN  Mmmh. Don't know if this release is the problem, as I haven't had to log in to my Airport Base Station for some time. BUT.... Now, I can't log into it. Airport Utility 5.4.1 says it can't find any Apple airport devices which is truly interseting because I am connected to the internet via the same Airport that the Utility says it can't find!!

FIREMIN  Thorsten Lemke has been slowly tweaking and adding features to this fantastic app for years. Online support has been fantastic. Several versions ago, I did something unusual with a very large file that caused a crash and he worked very quickly to fix the cause. He offers a genuine shareware product not a half crippled version. It is THE program for opening a wide range of image formats. Despite regular updates, only 1 major revision has required an upgrade fee in the years that I've been using GCon. Thumbs up from Down Under!

Garmin RoadTrip

****.

FIREMIN  I've been using Bobcat since it's fairly early unstable beta's. The last few versions haven't caused me a single crash. It's great to have a decent GPS mapping program for the Mac that's free. Garmin seem to be more actively supporting Mac software now (several updates in recent weeks) I did have to convert maps from a Windoze machine but that's mainly because I'm using a free Aussie mapset "Shonkymaps". Bobcat seems quite stable with it. I've had reasonable success moving data between Google Earth and Bobcat via GPSBabel+.

I have found that "Active Log" track files seem to keep speed information whereas saved logs don't which is a nuisance for some of the MTB riding I like to log.

Cheers
