I have one problem with this app: new Edgies notes are created when I click at the screen edge. Setting the preferences to disable this feature does not stop the action. I deleted the preferences file but the problem persists. I have a dual monitor set-up on a MacPro, with all the latest Apple updates. This one problem makes this app unusable for me. |

Stable and no weirdness using this beta version on my Mac Pro (OS 10.5.2). I also have FruitMenu, Silk, and FontCard installed...so far nothing to report except possibly a bit longer start up time for apps in general, but I think that's to be expected. |

This beta is working for me so far (running 10.5 on a Mac Pro). My Apple Menu is pumped up once again! |

Alternative: OSS 3D (no "activation limit" BS...) I tried to install my copy of SRS iWOW on a new computer and got that awful "number of activations exceeded" alert, despite having deleted my copies on my other computers. I've dumped SRS iWOW and have switched over to OSS 3D to avoid this activation limit crap. OSS 3D does have a lot more settings, which may not appeal to you, since SRS iWOW settings were much simpler. One big advantage of OSS 3D is that you can choose to have it enhance the sound from ALL of your running apps (or those you choose). |

Netflix's queue now has drag and drop so this app no longer offers distinguishing features. |

CalculateSizeCM CommentaryWorking alternative to CalculateSizeCM... I use FileBuddy 9 (may work with previous versions, too). Drag your selections to the FileBuddy icon and a list of your files and folders appears. Select them all and click on the "Group" button to see separate totals: total items selected, number of files, number of folders, total items, total size, and total numbers of individual file types. FileBuddy is not free, but it's universal. |

Follow up to my review below. I mentioned that I was charged $3.95 for their "Registration Backup Service" (which was selected by default but I didn't want it). I sent an email requesting a refund and I was promptly refunded the $3.95. Perhaps their other stuff has been problematic to others but this particular program still works great for me (except for one Sony DVD that may have some new protection scheme). Overall, a positive experience. |

Pros: All-in-one DVD copying made easy. Simple interface, stable on my Mac Pro. Cons: When paying for this program through "eMetrix" there's an option to also buy a dubious "Registration Backup Service" for $3.95. THE OPTION ON YOUR ORDER WILL BE CHECKED BY DEFAULT! Uncheck it, or they'll add that B.S. "service" to your order (there's no extra step to review your order to see that it was added on!). |

Note to add to my prior review: The developer suggests turning iTune's equalizer OFF when using SRS iWow, but I get the best sound when both are ON at the same time. Of course you'll have to experiment a bit to discover your own personal audio sweet spot. |

Some very complicated audio tricks are employed with this SRS technology, and it's amazing to actually hear it in action. There is distinct improvement in clarity and separation in my inexpensive Logitech x-230 computer speakers, but especially with my Sennheiser HD555 headphones. Toying with the equalizer sliders didn't even come close to what I got with iWow. Without SRS iWow activated iTunes now sounds weak and hollow. I hesitated spending the $20 but I realized that I couldn't go back to iTunes without it. Very stable on my Mac Pro. I find the iWow window minimizes to an acceptable size - you can even make it go away completely while it does it's thing in the background. Easy to configure. One improvement I'd like: add the ability to save custom presets. |

Reply to "Justinnorman" You've been using Painter since version 5 so your issues seem like those of a novice. I have no issues with Painter scaling back to 100%: I simply double click the Magnifier button in the toolbar. Where do you see 99.75%? Regarding the "hidden behind toolbar" issue: press "Tab" to temporarily hide your Toolbar and Palettes to drag the window down a bit. Press "Tab" again to bring it all back into view. Simple, right, or am I missing something here? |

Developer is very responsive to user's input, and this is a very helpful app, so kudos to him. This version really pushes the CPU on my Mac Pro (using Universal version 1.1.3), averaging in the mid 20 to mid 30 %, but can spike to above 50%. The prior version I was using, 1.1.1, didn't have this issue, so I sent a note to the developer. Anyone else experiencing high CPU usage with this version of Shades? |

There's a bug, I think, that needs to be fixed. When I use the "move" function it causes the selected window to very slowly increase in size (both horizontally and vertically). Seems to happen with all windows. I'm using a Mac Pro with all the latest updates. |

Decided that I should follow up my previous posts since dual monitor support was added (thank you). I discovered that the competing app I mentioned in my previous post has a real flaw: it doesn't hold it's setting after waking up from my screensaver. Very annoying. Shades retains its setting, so it gets a thumbs up. One suggestion to the developer: currently I'm not allowed to drag the adjustment slider to my 2nd monitor, which is my preference. |

Try "Brightness Control" for a screen dimmer with dual monitor support. Also, Shades is a wopping 15MB app (what gives with that??). |

Great little app. Stable and fast on my Intel machine. I've been using iSnip for a long time and recently installed it on my brand new Mac Pro. It's been working flawlessly without a single crash. This app is no longer being developed but, as is, it's extremely useful. My favorite feature: it allows me to insert text by either selecting my text from the menubar (pop-down window) or by simple drag & drop (from the "Snippet Manager" window). iSnip allows you to group your "snippets", assign each with a short name, and quickly edit them as needed. It's free and, though it'll never become "intel-compatible," it's stable and fast on my Intel mac. |

Works well. Looks like a new backbone for wide-spread anonymous file sharing of music and film has just been unleashed. Praise to the digital P2P gods. |

I won't rate this just yet, but I simply can't get this latest version to work at all. It won't insert characters into any application, even TextEdit. I've played around with the preferences but to no avail...v.3 simply does not work for me. When I attempt to insert a character into TextEdit, for example, the focus is shifted away from TextEdit and to the PopChar window, so no insertion is possible. So, I'm back to the previous version. |

For those that are willing to assume the risk, BonEcho is out there to download (the 2.0 alpha version of FireFox). I won't leave a link to it here, since someone will invariably have problems and blame me for posting thge link. It's multiple times faster than FireFox 1.5 and has been mostly stable in everyday use. Many extensions will not install in BonEcho, though Scrapbook and Tab Mix Plus (the two extensions that I can't live without) work perfectly with this alpha release. Whatever code improvements implemented in 2.0 it has made FireFox blazingly fast in every respect. |

Great backup software! I've been using this app for years for normal daily backups with no problems. Due to some recent computer problems I've realized that I needed to use Tri-Backup to take my data backups to another level. So, I recently cloned my start up disk to another drive using Tri-Backup and it made a perfect bootable duplicate! I now have the program set up to quickly update the cloned copy at the click of a button. The impetus for cloning my start up drive was what seemed to be a drive failure, but the use of Disk Warrior and an OS reinstall fixed what actually turned out to be a "missing node" problem. I had "evolutive" backups on hand of my data but it still took a day and half to manually drag or reinstall everything back to where it previously was. Having a bootable clone is of great benefit in light of my experience: now if some digital disaster rears it's ugly head, I can now simply reboot to start up drive #2 and jump right back into whatever it was that I was doing on my computer, and deal with the problematic drive at a more convenient time later on. Note that cloning a drive is NEVER a sensible replacement for regular backups of your valuable data! I suggest using Tri-Backup's "evolutive" backup scheme to retain at least 5 previous versions of your important files. |

And here's more: Some important information copied from the "Help" section about Database changes. THis info was NOT provided to me prior to installing the 3.2 update: /Library/FontAgent Pro/ FontAgent.db3 - database of all fonts, sets, and libraries FontAgent.db - backed up database of all fonts, sets, and libraries for a previous version of FontAgent Pro (before version 3.2) Note: The FontAgent Pro Database file is now named "FontAgent.db3." Users upgrading from previous versions of FontAgent Pro will find an additional "FontAgent.db" inside the same folder (/Users//Library/FontAgent Pro/). This file provides a means to return to an older version of FontAgent Pro if needed. However, all changes or modifications to fonts, libraries and sets in FontAgent Pro 3.2 will not be recognized by any previous version of FontAgent Pro using this backed up database file. |

Here are the release notes I found in FontAgent Pro's "Help" after installing this update: Version 3.2 1. Optimized performance for Network Home Directories. 2. Implemented new database format. 3. Added Help icon to toolbar. 4. Added Tips section to online Help. 5. Now allows deleting a local set that contains System or Server fonts. I do notice that version 3.2 launches much more quickly than the previous version, in about 10 to 15 seconds. This is fast campared to the previous launch time of over 60 seconds (for me, anyway). |

Worked initially, then... All of my playlists and songs disappeared from my iPod (30GB model). I connected it my G4 to attempt to see if this was some weird aberration but then that awful magnifying glass icon appeared on the iPod's screen. I didn't know what the heck that was all about so I force restarted my iPod a number of times. I've since learned that this is an internal diagnostic process which Apple's info states is a "15-20 minute" process but, for me, took about 50 minutes to complete. It then auto-restarted, and a "Do Not Disconnect" message appeared and didn't go away. I did another force restart, and that magnifying glass icon was back. THIS UPDATE MAY BE SERIOUSLY FLAWED, so DO NOT INSTALL until more users report on its success or failure!!! |
