Speed Download Lite | Jun 16 2008 |
FACTORYJOE I agree that Speed Download has been in continuous development and that's a good thing. Remember, I *paid* for Speed Download! The problem is that I can't afford to keep paying for upgrades when major releases come out as often as they seem to, especially when the majority of changes seem cosmetic, and haven't really added much additional value given my basic workflow. I still like Speed Download, it's just that Leech is a lot lighter and simpler and meets my needs; it's unclear whether this Lite version of SD is really "lite" after all, or just a rushed version to take on Leech. FACTORYJOE I bought Speed Download ages ago and even paid for the 4 to 5 version upgrade. They put out far too many updates to warrant continuing to pay for upgrades though. I've switched to Leech. Simple, sweet, priced right. (Version 1.0)

YAZSOFT SUPPORT As a user, I would feel a lot more comfortable when a software I invest in is continuously updated. To me, it shows serious dedication on behalf of the developer. Speed Download is regularly tested by over 100 beta testers to ensure optimal performance and compatibility. As the internet is continuously changing, we adapt to ensure that you (the user) doesn't feel a thing. Updates are always FREE and our R&D is continuously growing to accommodate the growing needs of our users. (Version 1.0)

YAZSOFT SUPPORT Thanks for following up. Upgrades are commonplace in the industry. Eventually, even Leech (or any other software developer) will charge you (unless the developer decides he wants to work for free, which is fine). The Speed Download 5 upgrade has undergone A LOT of under the hood changes. The entire download mechanism has been re-done and almost all features of the applications have been beefed up. Visually, there's a lot of nice changes but the true change is under the hood and there is a lot more coming (free to all registered 5.x users). An important note is that the upgrade is OPTIONAL. The previous version SD4, is still supported. Speed Download Lite was born out of heavy demand from our user base that felt they need not pay for features they don't use and not because of any other software. The Lite version has been stripped of everything but the download manager. However, if you have SD5, you can easily turn it into SD Lite. Simply email us directly. Thanks again for all your feedback. We're always hear to listen :-)

FENGSHUIFACTS Hm..Nmr didn't say they had used this project to 'learn' how to develop a program don't know if that's what you meant. I noticed XsTrimmer is different. XsTrimmer has a re-constructive backup, which is a terrific feature to offer. Probably what makes XsTrimmer unique is you can trim all your universal binaries without the 50mb limit. ALJUK @factoryjoe - I don't get it... what exactly is your point? It sounds like you'd rather pay for a commercial app than get the same functionality for free. FACTORYJOE On the surface it seems like a really nice, simple GUI for SVN. Hard to say how it compares with svnX from intitally playing with it, but it does seem stable, well made and the View Changes interface is quite good. I don't think I would pay $99 for it, and $59 still seems steep. If it were going for maybe $39 I'd bite -- as well as if I knew how active the developer was in maintaining and improving the application. I've got 11 hours left until the promo expires; I'll decide by then. (Version 1.1.2)

FACTORYJOE More interface ideas are always a good thing, but it seems like this could have been built as a plugin for Quicksilver -- even one that you charge for. I'll certainly give it a shot, but Quicksilver is actually pretty straight-forward to setup, so saying that Valet is "nearly zero configuration" isn't much of a selling point. Also, I'd contend that, ignoring the attention-leveraging bit, Todos provides a more straight forward install and use. I'll still give this one a go, but I doubt I'll shell out $25 for it. FACTORYJOE There's at least 3 or 4 of these app deleters now that followed AppZapper. It doesn't really matter if you make it free; there's already folks doing that. If you can make it better -- all the power to you -- I'm all for choice. But when it seems that this one is just reimplementing AppZapper and making it free to spite AppZapper, that just seems like a waste of time. If you go open source, well, maybe there's something to be said for that. (Version 1.0b)

JOEL MUELLER It's funny because we often have people reporting issues with RapidWrite crashing MacUpdate Desktop on their computers. And the people that email in always say they used AppZapper to remove RW, but Desktop is still crashing. This is because AppZapper never does get all of the files for RW. So choice is good. And even AppZapper has a ways to go in being able to uninstall things. (Version 1.0)

Radio Days | Jan 15 2005 |
CHRIS MESSINA This looks like a great idea, but I can imagine that hearing "That was..." or whatever after every song would become pretty annoying after a couple hours (if not a couple songs!). I would love to see you compile a list of DJ "sayings" that DJ's use to announce songs and then draw from this list at random when announcing songs. You could even vary the amount of information spoken, sometimes listing just the artist and track, other times listing the album, year or whatever other information is available. (Version 1.0)

KARL BECKER A very good idea. Have a list of sayings that the user can editable, with little + and - buttons to add or subtract introductions. And if a song from the same album comes up two (or more) times in a row, then the album would not have to be said each time. Same with the artist. I hope Apple puts in functionality like this into iTunes once Tiger comes out - it's a no-brainer for usefulness, and with new voices in Tiger it could be really nice. (Version 1.0)

FACTORY JOE For a download application, it's actually quite nice. I wasn't convinced that I should plunk down the money for it during my trial period and found that I was getting along fine without it... but once I found out about the ability to automatically download serially numbered files (file01.zip, file02.zip,...), I realized how valuable this app could be. Since then I find myself using the app daily without any problems. I miss the MacShareware integration from 2.3.2 but hopefully the upcoming 3.0 version will have similar functionality.
