Comic Life
Apr 24 2009

EMB  I own OmniGraffle so I know what a great program it is, but if you just want to make great comics Comic Life is about 1000 times easier. Choosing lettering, pictures, making captions are all so much easier in Comic Life. OmniGraffle is something I use quite a lot, but I use Comic Life for comics.

HoudahSpot

EMB  I didn't upgrade from version 1.x to version 2.x because I didn't have Leopard. Now that I have finally moved to Leopard I decided to check out the upgrade price. To my amazement the price is 0!! On Houdah Software's site they say:

"We have decided to be even more generous that stated in the above policy. All registered HoudahSpot 1.x licenses remain valid for HoudahSpot 2.0"

That is a great deal for all of us 1.x buyers. Much appreciated Houdah.

Oh, and of course HoudahSpot is great.

EMB  Yes, it does state that this is a bundle, but it then lists a separate price for iListen. If you want to avoid confusion don't list the separate price. Pretty simple solution.

EMB  Don't be so testy. You won't make many friends or customers that way. A jump in price from $0 to $25 is a little surprising that's all.

Revolution
Jun 2 2006

EMB  I agree with the earlier posts regarding Revolution's upgrade policy. I had Revolution 2.2 and paid $109 to upgrade. Several months later Revolution became Dreamcard and was priced at $49. I contacted Heather Nagey regarding the fact that I had paid more that twice as much for my upgrade than a brand new copy of Dreamcard cost. She saw nothing wrong with the situation. Now it appears that Dreamcard has been discontinued and if I want to upgrade from Dreamcard to Revolution Studio it will cost $199. An academic version of Revolution Studio sells for $189, and there is no upgrade price that I can find, so once again it would be less expensive to buy a new copy than to upgrade.

The only way to avoid these upgrade problems is to buy the renewal pack which gets you free updates for one year. However, even the renewal pack is not inexpensive.

As one of the earlier posts said, I can't afford to pay these prices for upgrades, especially when the upgrade is within version 2 rather than from 2 to 3.

Pastor
Apr 5 2006

EMB  I have written to Markus about including a search field and he says it is planned for version 2. I am hoping it comes a little earlier :-), but it is nice to know it is in the works. Printing directly from Pastor would also be nice. I have exported to a text file then printed that. Of course, a paper copy is not secure.

HealthEngage Depression
Mar 13 2006

EMB  Tracking this type of information can be very useful in understanding and treating depression. From a quick look the program seems to be fairly thorough in the information it allows you to track. However, I think paying $59 for this program might make me more depressed

USB Overdrive X
Mar 9 2006

EMB  I tried out the demo of USB Overdrive and thought it was a well designed and valuable program. It was the only way I could get a Logitech joystick to work. However, I had a specific need so emailed the developer twice to ask how, or if, USB Overdrive could do what I wanted. Like Joeback I never got a response. Rather disappointing especially in comparison to other developers who respond within hours.

EMB  If you are looking for something closer to HyperCard take a look at SuperCard. I have both Revolution and SuperCard and I much prefer SuperCard for most things.
