OSXplanet is less expensive, but hey, what's 8 bucks for a replacement that really works on Leopard?

However, there's quite some room for features. And it would be nice if the overall and nightshadow saturation/contrast could be controlled in order to improve the visibility of the icons on the desktop.

Nice app!

Give Firefox 3beta4 a shot - it's speed, usability and stability surprised me quite a bit.

Firefox 3 (currently beta available from http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Main_Page) is amazing from many points of view. Speed and usability have been increased a BIG deal (beta4 and higher) and it's really stable. Stable enough in fact to make me a "too early adopter". Many of the most helpful add-ons like Firebug, Web Devel Toolbar, It's all Text etc. are available in a compatible version or can be used with only few glitches if you switch off the compatibility check.

Version 5.0.51 has just been released, however, it doesn't work out of the box on my Mac with OS X 10.5.2.

I've filed a bug report that contains a workaround that circumvents the permissions issues. However, this is okay for a development Mac like min, you MUST NOT do it on a production system.

Still, I'll retire this tool anytime soon hoping that Apple will build it into the sysprefs at some point.

I've just submitted a feature requests to Apple for an additional "Routing" tab inside the advanced VPN settings in sysprefs, sort of an extension to the already present "route all traffic over VPN" checkbox. It's number 5727871 on bugreport.apple.com.

@bob_tm:

Wonder if you would still think the same if a bug in your FMenu caused someone to spoil your rating AFTER you fixed the bug already.

Helpful, that's giving the dev a chance and if nothing happens kick his ass - not the other way round. And maybe checking whether you're on the current release before spoiling the rating.

Maybe I should just rip the thing off the net.

I hoped Lighthouse could help as my router (Billion Bipac 7500g) is not recognized by iChat. However, Lighthouse has crashed heavily on Leo 10.5.1 :-) A problem might be that Lighthouse sets one rule per port, so if your port range contains 100 ports in both TCP and UDP, Lighthouse tries to set 200 rules on the router. That might have blown it.

How about asking the makers of MacUpdate to remove your rating?

I'm putting quite some time into this tool although I don't need it myself anymore. VPN Router is not perfect, because it works on the surface rather than inside the system. If you know how to do it as aproper extension, go ahead, I'd be more than happy to make place for a better solution.

@KRABBE:

There's been a bug in version 1.4 which may cause this odd behaviour. It've fixed this in 1.4.1.

It would have been polite if you had contacted me before throwing around single stars as it's plain to see that this is a bug and no intention. The donation reminder is to appear only once when you establish a VPN connection.

If this happens on your Mac even with version 1.4.1, then you're using PPP in a way I didn't anticipate. VPN Router has to do some hacks in order to find out whether a VPN tunnel has been established. It monitors the PPP daemon and checks for VPN if a new one appears.

My apologies for this bug, hope other users are a little more helpful should I ever make a mistake again.

The donation page sometimes drops dead for no apparent reason, sorry about that!

Neither my BT nor my USB headset are working. I can choose them as monitor device, but nothing plays when I level up the volume in the cue window. Even if I use USB as master and built-in as monitor, it still plays master to built-in and ignores monitor. Not very useful this way I'm afraid. That's on Leo 10.5.1.

Here's a little hack to make it work on Leopard:

Stop OSXplanet if it's running. Then delete the following items from your Library Folder:

- Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist

- Caches/Desktop/*

- Caches/com.gabrielotte.osxplanet1.0/*

Now reboot and you will get the default Leo desktop background. Start OSXplanet and it works.

Please note: Every time you open the "Desktop & Screen Saver" prefpane, you will break OSXplanet. So best set the prefs there, then do the above procedure and leave things alone until Gabriel has posted a Leo fix.

It's a permissions issue. This will solve it "brute force", I'm too lazy to figure out exactly which permissions misbehave for my development only system.

sudo chmod -R a=rwX mysql-5*

There's been a silent re-release of 2.1.2 which does launch.

So the response time is quite okay, however, they should reflect such updates in their version numbers.

Version 2.1.2 is broken - at least on Intel Macs. It's already posted to the developer mailinglist, so let's see how long the fix takes. This is a good "test case" to judge whether this softphone is a good choice or not.

There's still room for features, but the only real missing feature of Locomotive is IMHO that there's no equivalent for PHP ;-) Love it for my Rails projects though.

Great application, both intuitive and powerful. Others (like those in Redmond) should watch and learn - also what the pricing is concerned.

Gapless playback is a bliss, love it! And you will, too, if you give it a shot. Take it one step further and add crossfade playback to increase the happiness factor even more. I use Cog to play files off my Linux server via MacFUSE/SSHFS and WLAN - no hickups, no gaps at all.

I've had it! This tools has destroyed my calendars at least half a dozen times in the past weeks. Invitations do not work properly, appointments and even calendars are duplicated after sync, it's slow as hell and so on. Oh, did I mention that you have to pay quite a lot for all this happiness?

Feel fry to give it a shot - but only if you have too much money, time and nerves.

Errata: ~/Library/Calendar does not matter (anymore), the important stuff is in ~/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources. The files are still there but corrupted to a point which apparently causes iCal not to show any appointments anymore.

The release previous to 3.15 has eaten all my calendars the very day 3.15 was announced. And with "eaten" I mean the files in ~/Library/Calendars were gone! Cause of the problem seems to be the GroupCal Daemon crashing after the GroupCal App failed to start three times beforehand. No big deal for me as I do daily backups, but I could picture less fortunate folks.

Now, I like the fact that someone finishes Apple's job and builds a bridge between Exchange and iCal. But at the time of writing, GroupCal 3 is not for the faint at heart. $50++ is okay for a finished midsize piece of software, but not for beta testing it. You might want to wait until more positive comments are posted here.
