DTRUETT1 Follow the link to equinux. Good news and bad news. Good news is, it's not $39.95, an outrageous price. Bad news - it's $49.95. Do they sell this to anyone? Fifty bucks to fill in missing album artwork? I'm far from a cheapskate with software, but that price is insane. (Version 3.2.2)

DTRUETT1 I have not used the product, for reasons below. I do feel the need to comment on the approach this company takes. If it's inappropriate here, I apologize, but think those of us who use MacUpdate regularly have opinions about how companies and individuals relate to their customer base. My experience is getting an Email somehow promoting ReadIris Pro 12. I was interested in OCR software, and took a look. Watched their two Flash demos and used the link to download a trial, only to find that first I needed to provide an Email address. OK, that's a warning sign for me, but I did it anyway. Got back a link - to watch the videos again. I went to the contacts link and described the situation and asked for a response on how I could download their software for evaluation. I have done this now three times, probably out of stubbornness and curiosity. No reply in two weeks and the "deadline" for the offer keeps moving. Makes me have a warm and fuzzy feeling to all of the smaller developers I support with my money, and the best of the larger ones, such as OmniGroup. I see no developer comments here, so I guess they don't monitor MacUpdate. It seems like the "brute force" strategy of marketing - push out a zillion Emails rather than focusing on their customer base. Roxio springs to mind, with the constant updating of small features and barrage of solicitations to upgrade at a discount. Anyway, rant over. I'm going to give ExactScan and VueScan a whirl, as I can actually download a demo from them. (Version 12.0)

DTRUETT1 This upgrade went way beyond my wildest hopes. I alternated between using DT 1 and SOHO Notes for various collections of PDF files, images, things pulled from Email, etc. Two things made me pull the trigger on the upgrade before I even checked out all of the features: 1. I keep my databases (3) in a folder on Dropbox, so they are available to me from any of my Macs anytime. Having the Sorter and being able to drag something to either the global inbox or a folder I put there is fast, efficient, and reliable. 2. Bookmarklets. Putting a single DT Clip bookmarklet in the bookmarks bar of Safari and OmniWeb is HUGE. Just choose note, bookmark, PDF, PDF paginated, or HTML, add a comment if you like, and choose the folder to put it in for ANY of your databases. Opens DT quickly, so you can confirm it is there and works 100% of the time. This is one fabulous upgrade from a great company. (Version 2.0pb7)

DTRUETT1 Had the exact same problem. Also didn't import my Cox POP folders stored locally on my Mac. No Email tech support. No phone number to call. Typinator | Sep 30 2009 |
DTRUETT1 I have a license for both TextExpander and Typinator and spent some time comparing the two. I have always preferred the interface and feature of Typinator. For one, the ability to specify whether an abbreviation is expanded when typing the whole word or not is important to me. I also prefer having it nested in the menu bar preferable to System Preferences. The one thing that TE had over it was the ability to sync sets between my work and home computers. Now, with the current version I just moved the folder from Application Support (not physically) to Dropbox in Typinator's preferences. Works perfectly. I recently had an interesting Email conversation with the developer and CEO and find him very reasonable and customer-centric. Good company, good product. (Version 3.6)

DTRUETT1 As per my comments below, I tried to contact the developer twice through their links just to be able to download v.3 with no success. Then I tried to Email them with the Email address below and no answer. Today I get a promo for half off version 3. I’ve moved on to Hear. I haven’t seen support (lack of) and non-response to customers this bad since Chronos had been for a couple of years. “FLORIDAPHILLIP I sent an e-mail to the developer (csonline@srslabs.com) and in less than 24 hours got a link to a new version that works with OS 10.6. iTunes works fine now. Good service. Good product.“ (Version 3.1)

DTRUETT1 Well, I tried to download v3 three times this weekend. You have to enter your Email address, which I identified, then was told it would retrieve my password and mail it there. Never did. Previously I had a question/problem with v.2. I was so persistent that I even went to the phone support number twice, left a nice message with my number, and was never contacted. I’ve owned this since version 1 and the system for downloading a trial and support is really, really poor. (Version 3.1)

DTRUETT1 As always, whenever I change anything involving LCC, this morning I used SuperDuper to make a clone of my boot drive, which was working perfectly. Upgraded to LCC 3 and didn’t use the Mac all day. When I sat down, I had reason to go to Accounts in System Prefs and delete a Login Item. Where I had 16, now I have 4. I’m in the process of cloning from the backup drive, which shows all 16. As I've stated before, terrific hardware hobbled by awful software. I just don’t understand how one company can have divisions so far apart in competence. MEGAMAN, thanks for the tip. I looked at Controller Mate and was intimidated, although I’m much more than a novice. I guess I’ll take another look. (Version 3.0)

DTRUETT1 I want to ditch LCC so badly, but can’t get Keyboard Maestro to remap the function keys. I am familiar with macros, as a QuicKeys user. The problem with my Logitech diNovo (not Edge) Mac Edition keyboard is that if I test it with, say, F1 as a hot key, pressing F1 doesn’t do a thing, as out of the box the F-keys keys are “dead” without pressing the “fn” key at the same time and who wants to do that? To make KM see a function key as a hot key, I have to use the “fn” and the F-key to put it in, then it won’t work unless I press the “fn” key along with F1. If you could help me to remap, I’d GLADLY pay the price of Keyboard Maestro and go back to SteerMouse for my Revolution MX. Anyone? Please. (Version 3.0)

DTRUETT1 Thanks, LIVINGLIFE. It was worth a try, but didn’t work. I tried it both with all of the install/uninstall/restarts, then adding just those LCC prefs back, and deleting the other LCC prefs and adding just the three back. No go either way. There are so many things wrong with this software, it’s hard to know where to start. For one, I’m typing this in OmniWeb. I have a vertical scroll setting just for OW. With the Device Settings open for the mouse driver (Revolution MX), I can set the scroll slow enough so that in Click to Click mode, it’s the correct speed. I have to set speed all the way to slow and acceleration at max. As soon as I close that window, it reverts to the default scroll, which is to fast for a browser. In other words, it doesn’t remember or use the application settings. For those who are attempting to get some Mac functionality similar to SteerMouse and a keyboard that works, here are some things I found: • To get the scroll wheel to have any function other than Logitech’s SmartShift (the push-down setting for the wheel is grayed out by default), you need to choose vertical scroll, click the Configure DumbShift {SIC} tab, and choose to start in either click to click or free spin mode. You just have to stumble onto that one. • For the keyboard, to use the standard function keys, if you check the box that supposedly lets you use F13-F19, it won’t work. This is just unbelievable! As an example, i went into QuicKeys to assign some keyboard shortcuts to open things in the Finder. I set F14 to open a document and LCC to let me use the Fkeys as standard function keys. So, i press F14. What do I get? Display dimming! Even on my Apple Aluminum keyboard, F1 is display dimming. When you press F16-F19 in QK, it won’t even show the keystroke. To set up F1-F6 to act as regular, assignable function keys, I had to check the box that says use standard function keys, choose keystroke for each one, type the Fkey into “Type a key...” then go back to general and uncheck the box. That’s because the only way to get any function from F16-F19 is to use let LCC control it, then set up an action. This seems OK, but, for example, I assigned F18 to open The Hit List. I'd love to assign Command-F18 to open the Quick Entry window, but I can’t. At this point, with the scrolling issues, I’m actually considering just going back to SteerMouse and using MaxMenus to create a popup menu with the things I use for my Fkeys from the button on the Revolution mouse. They make such great hardware and such incredibly poorly designed software. What a shame. (Version 2.7)

DTRUETT1 As per the last comment, synching via Mobil Me stopped working. Even exporting and importing within Wallet fails to update the most current database. I have contacted them 3 times in the last month, sending the Console log and a screenshot, with no reply. I can only speculate that Acrylic has laid off their support team. I understand the difficulties of these times, but I’ll be looking around for an alternative. I got this app free, but paid for the upgrade so that I could get support if I needed it. DTRUETT1 Try uninstalling this version. In the installer it shows file paths at the root level that are at the ~/User level. Still shows the uninstaller in the Apps/Utilities folder, which it’s not any longer. Says you can use the installer to uninstall, which is no longer true. I have no idea any more where the pieces of this thing are. You’d think the engineers would take the time to update the “Important Information” in the installer, or is that too much to ask? The Hit List | Apr 8 2009 |
DTRUETT1 Keeping it short - I’ve used OmniFocus, Things, and even Process for task and project management. It’s been a mess, spreading tasks over the first two programs while testing. All in all, Hit List has won me over with it’s interface, keyboard shortcuts, and the ability to use both tags and context as I choose. On the downside, it doesn’t have an iPhone app yet, but that should be coming. OmniFocus has full synching which works perfectly keeping my home and work computers synchronized. However, if you use Dropbox (and you should), you can create a new lHit List ibrary there by holding down the option key when you open Hit List (Things will do this also). I'd rather have the OF sync type, and I haven’t been at work since I got it, but this should serve the needed function. (Version 0.9.3.5b)

DANCO As I noted earlier, the only functionality lost in the free demo version is the ability to copy and delete items. And deletion can be *very* slow in the full version, I guess partly because (unlike Time Machine) you can decide which versions to delete. If you use Time Machine, do yourself a favour and download the free version. (Version 1.4.2)

DTRUETT1 I experienced some problems that made 1.1b1 unusable. With 1.1b2, everything works perfectly. Not only does Quay give you the old hierarchical menus, the choice of how to sort, and restores the Command-Click>shows the folder in Finder, but it also allows me to put my customized folders in the Dock. I created folders in Tiger using a metal folder and FolderBrander or CanCombine Icons for quick identification. Now the dock functions even better than it did in Tiger. RINGHORNE Go to ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/mouse/mac as that should have the LCC version you seek. WARNING: I added a wireless keyboard to a wired mouse I have had for years. To clarify, both were Logitech. LCC gave me no trouble with the mouse, ever. Then the kybd was freezing my whole darn system! I tried all types of things to try to keep the problems from occurring, including downloading and installing older versions of the LCC, and nothing worked. I got rid of the Logitech keyboard - no joke. Instantly, the mouse worked EXACTLY as it should with the LCC software. My new keyboard is NOT Logitech, and is wireless and works fine. Logitech is far lower on my list of device makers now. That kybd problem was a MAJOR headache! (Version 2.4)
