DRTYRELL969  The current version 1.2.2 has some serious issues. The product RANDOMLY turns on all your fonts. I have over 8300 fonts in Linotype, and I'll keep about 80 on. I'll wake up the next day and 6500 have been turned on without my permission. Not good. Beware if you use this version.

DRTYRELL969  $499? The application crashed on me in my first attempt to import. Given that Apple charged $499 for Shake, I think you can probably bet on a $49 price for this tool.

DRTYRELL969  Both version 2.x and 3.x blow out your Windows serialization when installed into Coherence mode. This means you have to call MS and bed for an authentication number. I've had to call twice in three days due to Parallels. I actually paid them for this experience. Yeh!

***..

DRTYRELL969  I know everything is thrilled to have this software on the Mac, but lets get one thing straight...this product is littered with some pretty serious bugs that have existed since day one. After reading the forums on their website, it would appear that as long as one person posts that they haven't experienced your bug, the support team and developers pay your problems no mind. I'm running Parallels on two machines, an iMac 24" and a MacBook Pro 17". The iMac continually has problems getting the mouse and keyboard to work. When you ask Parallels to patch in the USB devices (in version 3.x) it completely screws up your computer and fails to work inside Parallels.

Applications like AutoCAD, which use their own very basic drawing commands instead of DirectX for their 2D portion of the application have massive mouse tracking issues. A slight move of the mouse produces frames rates of 2 to 1 frames per second making it impossible to use one of the most basic drawing applications on Windows workable.

I just upgraded from 2.x to 3.x and I can't see any measureable bump in performance, or in legacy bug fixes. Not a single improvement in any direction. I'm a programmer, and I can't find the increase in value...not good.

3.x is in need of a HUGE round of bug fixes.

DRTYRELL969  I know its hard to pay money for tools like this if you're used to getting everything for free, but this bad boy is worth your money. From the easy user interface that is VERY comprehensive to the AWESOME backup feature, this product has saved my ass many of times, and I've only owned it for 6 months.

I've had to move sites from one server to another, and this product do the transfer for me with one click of a button. Truly amazing.

If you're serious about saving time, give up the demos, and get the real thing.

DRTYRELL969  What a cool friggin application. If any of you have tried to dabble in the SEO world you will download this program and lock a copy away in a vault somewhere. This is EXACTLY what everyone needs if they want their sites to rank higher in search engines. It doesn't do the work for you, but it brilliantly checks on your page ranks like a real pro; it even simulates human timing issues so the search engines don't think a robot is asking questions. I give this product a 5 out of 5 easily.

Fontographer

DRTYRELL969  I've been a Fontographer since the late 80s. I started on the PC and moved to the Mac with the original Fontographer. I've waited nearly 10 years for this update and I really feel like it was worth it. It's the same solid application that it always was.

I've also been able to save a ton of projects with corrupted font fixing and or platform conversions.

I strongly recommend this program if you need to edit fonts or take care of clients that are still stuck in the Windows world.

DRTYRELL969  This program is a friggin masterpiece. I remember the days when Windows users would stare over my shoulder at BBEdit and cry. It's not that they have stopped, but OMNIPLAN is a solid successor to this punishing OSX realization. I highly recommend this product. I've been using in production strength projects ever since I started the Demo. I proudly licensed it and will upgrade forever.

DOCCHAOS  Apple offers only two versions:

(a) Universal, and

(b) PPC

and both should work just fine in your G5. There is something odd, though. One of my older machines, a MDD, didn't even "see" the security update via Software Update. All that appeared was the QT update. Downloading the update from Apple, however, works just fine. I haven't tried updating my Intel machines yet.

DRTYRELL969  I've never seen a company making good money using the margin theory. Companies make money one way successfully, and that is through volume. MS Windows costs literally Billions to make and sells for $79 to $129 for the commoner. Accordingly, EarthDesk at $19 accounts for at least a Billion US dollars worth of development. From what I can tell, this product merges two public domain satellite photos using a transparent mask overlay and a publicly available cloud data. We dial in our favorite cities, but I can't seem to find any functionality with that data. Maybe I'm missing something. This desktop has been done several times over the past 10 years. My advice is to make it irresistible to buy and you'll see that rent get paid in spades.

And sorry for the failing dollar. It's going to continue to tank until America goes with the Euro. Maybe $12, ¢10.

DRTYRELL969  This is a really neat product, but $19.99 is just a price I can't justify for something that creates ZERO dollars and LOW entertainment for my business or home. Maybe at a stretch $9.99 would reduce it to an impulse buy item, but when I get any casual game on the market for $19.99 and play it for a month, there is no way this product behinds to contend with that value. Great job, but too pricey IMO.

XERICDESIGN  Deciding on a price point is not an easy task as it has to balance value to the end user with the financial realities of developing the product in question... it has to cover the rent!

EarthDesk has been on the market for almost five years at the same price point despite a constantly falling US Dollar (many of our expenses are in Euros).

At the end of the day the cost is less than dinner out.

Thank you for your interest in our product.

XERICDESIGN  Comparing our small 2-3 person company to MS doesn't work very well.

The images EarthDesk uses are not public domain. For the satellite image, we licensed content from The Living Earth (3 different maps), while the cloud data is provided by the UK government. The political map was created in-house.

Falling dollar is not your fault... at least I don't think so, depends who you are. ;-)

DRTYRELL969  BE WARNED: This company is all about product SPAMMING. They force you "register" to their company to get updates to their products, and then sell your email address to the friggin planet. I created an alias email address roxio@mydomain.com and have since received literally THOUSANDS of emails to this account. I since have shut down the account, but know that this company practices ethics you can do without.

ALDORR  I respect your spam-foiling techniques... because I also subscribe to them, but I must refute your claim: I have registered ALL my Roxio products and have yet to receive a SINGLE spam at that roxio@mydomain.net address. Maybe your roxio@mydomain.com address is also public somewhere?

DRTYRELL969  This player would have value to me if it could export what it plays. It's a remarkable player in that it can play more formats than anything else on the Mac. So kudos to you, and if anyone can help me figure out how to export this codec, I'd love it.

DRTYRELL969  This is a great product. It burns beautiful DVDs of your originals. The only complaint I have is that it deletes its compressed version of the burns after each burn session. So everytime you have to burn a new set, you have to wait through the compression phase everytime. I've checked the options, and I can't find a way to have the program leave the compressed source in a directory for additional burns at a later time. This would make the product a 5 out of 5 in all categories IMO.
