PowerRIP X
Aug 20 2008

DONNIE3III  We have been using this RIP for quite some time with an Epson 2200. It was simple to use, rarely had any issues.

Here comes the big BUT, their licensing model is such a major hassle that we dreaded upgrading our computers in fear of going through switching the license over.

If their technical support was in anyway supportive it would have made the process much easier to deal with. Unfortunately there is a 1 in 3 chance that you will be speaking with someone who is very Mean, Unhelpful, and very condescending. Any time I had to call I dreaded talking with this guy, he seems to instantly accuse you of stealing the software and makes your life very miserable.

If you try to email them you will most likely not get a response. I have sent in 5 emails and do not get a response unless I call and ask about my support emails. One time they even admitted to throwing away my mails...

Next in the line of complaints. I was upgrading our graphic design to the new Mac Pro tower with Leopard & InDesign. I wanted to make sure everything was compatible with the new systems. I wrote an email (no response) and then called and was told that it is perfectly compatible.

Power Rip X is NOT compatible with the new Mac Pro towers, Leopard, and InDesign. It seems there is a bug that makes every few pages print backwards and sometimes does not print the text.

We went back and forth with their support, they claimed it was Adobe's fault, until we were able to produce the same job from EFI's rip. Then they stopped talking to me.

At this point we will no longer use their product and very adamantly warn people away from this product. I have spent an excessive amount of time trying to troubleshoot this issue and tried to help the company find a solution (mailed in output, PPD files, tried different tests, ect) and to be blown off like that is unacceptable.

If you decide to buy this product I hope you have better luck than we did.
