TWAIN SANE | Oct 24 2009 |
DOKTER_MAC I'm so happy this software excist! This solved all my issues with outdated scanner drivers in just a few minutes! With SANE I can now use my first Agfa Scanner again on my newest Intel iMac or my PowerMac G5! This scanner was one of the first USB devices that I bought for my rev.a iMac back in 1998 ;-). The scanner is still in very good shape but the drivers and software where never updated since 10.1 or so... With SANE all this is solved. And for free!!! Thank you so much for this great work of art! I'm using the software on Tiger, Leopard and now Snow Leopard and it never let me down. It just works everytime. Talking about great support, this is great support! Always up to date since it already runs fine without any issues on Snow Leopard!!! I can use SANE with VueScan or my latest Agfa Scanner software from 2002. The Agfa software recognizes my scanner again and is simple to use, like I used to do for years... VueScan also recognizes my scanner and works great with SANE. 5 starts from me for this great software that never let me down on three OS X versions and two architectures. And it's free! With regards. (Version 2.8)

DOKTER_MAC I use to have the same issue. Now I use this software with SANE and everything works fine. Just type 'SANE' in the MacUpdate searchbar and download the software for your OS. It supports Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard! (Version 2.0)

BOINC | Oct 20 2009 |
- I believe this error means that you (Boinc) can't login. But I can be wrong! - If you have such issues with the recent version of Boinc I would go back to version 6.6.36! A very good, stable and fast release for the Mac! http://boincdl3.ssl.berkeley.edu/mirror/boinc_6.6.36_macOSX_universal.zip Greets. (Version 6.10.14)

DOKTER_MAC I'm very happy to say that this great 'mailplugin' also works fine on PPC Macs!!! I've just installed version 0.22, since I'm running Mac OS 10.5 on a PowerMac G5. -Installation on PPC Mac running 10.5 without any problems! -First launch of the Mail app and everything works just fine! -Preferences are all working! -In short, everything works just fine like it should be! On both architectures :-) ... To the developer: Could you please correct the requirements from Intel to PPC/Intel. You've made a lot of PPC users very happy with this mailplugin!!! I'll write a complete 'review' when I used the plugin a couple of months. But for now 5 stars!!! With kind regards. (Version 0.24b5)

DOKTER_MAC Great job done!!! I love it and it's supporting PPC! That's great because my PoweMac G5 is my main developer hardware. Our Intel iMac is mostly used for graphic design by my partner. I also develop for iPhone and I use an old version of the iPhone Dev Software on my G5. When most of the work and coding is done I finish it on the Intel iMac (when it's free). Works great on both machines! 5 stars from me! It's a great Open Source project, so far nothing but good things to say about it! A very big 'thank you' for all the developers for their effort & great work! Greets ;-) (Version 1.8.2)

DOKTER_MAC Version 0.9.6c seems to work just fine under Leopard (10.5.8) & my G5 PM. Everything is Universal & the installer works perfect. I don't understand why they say this version is only for Snow Leopard & Intel? Anyone who knows more about this?

KRIS JONES @DOKTER MAC. This is a beta version intended to work in both 32 and 64-bit mode. If you are using Leopard or earlier there is a stable release available that works just in 32-bit (64-bit being unnecessary unless one has Snow Leopard). (Version 0.9.6c)

NeoOffice | Aug 11 2009 |
DOKTER_MAC Yesterday I tried to patch NeoOffice, which is by the way a very good program and I use it a lot, and the patch failed to update. It was patch 6. Then I installed version 3.0 from scratch, because patch 6 messed up the program, and I was getting a message that patch 7 was out. So there was something wrong with patch 6 like I've thought and experianced... Anyway, I installed patch 7 with succes and now NeoOffice (patched to 7) crashes almost all the time on startup... Sometimes the program starts normal after 6 or 7 crashes and works normal? I believe this patch 7 is a quick fix for patch 6 and that a patch 8 will follow very soon because something is wrong with the last two patches (6 and 7). So for the moment I installed a clean 3.0 again (works like a charme on 10.5.8) and I'm waiting for patch 8. Again, NeoOffice is one the programs I'm often use and I Iove it!!! So 5 stars from me!!! It's always possible that something is going wrong during an update, we are only humans and we all make mistakes ;-). So no harm done, I'm still a big fan of the NeoOffice Project and all the great developers!!! Thanks a lot for the effort, the great program, etc. !!! Greets. (Version 3.0 patch 7)

DOKTER_MAC Too bad they dropped PPC support :(. It's a good and fun app. My kids love it! I bought the previous version and I would buy this version also if it was a Universal program. I own one Intel iMac but also still 3 PPC Macs (G5's with iSights). So for another year or so I expect developers to follow Apple... But reality is different... Ah yeah, I can't complain because 75% of the programs is still Universal ;).

DOKTER_MAC You have a very good point! I need those PPC native frameworks if I wan't to see this app running on other PPC Macs where Qt is not installed... I'm going to contact the developer and see if he can help me. Qt is PPC compatible and the FrameWorks are installed in my Library (that's why this app works on my hardware), but they need to be inside the program as you say! Because if not, the app will not launch!!! BTW: I just received a log file from someone that proofs your theory ;). Thanks a lot for your help!!! Greets & kind regards. (Version 2.1)

DOKTER_MAC The weird thing is that there are no Framworks inside the app ;). Only Plugins, Language files, Resources, a Mac OS folder with the UNIX file, etc.

DOKTER_MAC I wonder why this version is 10+Mb? My build, in a automated dmg file is only 1,5Mb big? When I check the Intel version (Get Info) the app itself is much smaller. (Version 2.1)

I've managed to compile a PPC version! I've downloaded the latest source and compiled it on my good old PM G5. I'm sure this app will run on any G4 and even a G3 (but that is something I need to test). The PPC version is very CPU friendly and the source is also very clean and well written! Anyone who is interested in this version, let me know and I'll put it online or I'll send to you. The diskimage is only 1,5Mb, so it's easy to e_mail or to upload this program to my personal or any server. Interested? Mail to doktermac@gmail.com !!! PS: Version is 2.1, plugins installed: 58, languages supported: 14, AutoUpdate is working ;-). (Version 2.1)

LEPPE I've downloaded the Intel vesion, here from MacUpdate, and both apps Intel & PPC have almost the same size. I can't see or find any Frameworks on both dmg files? As far I can see you only need to drag & drop the app in the Application folder, both Intel & PPC Builds. No extra frameworks for installation... The only thing I can think is that the Intel version is using some standard dmg size... While the PPC version dmg file is made with the Terminal... Maybe it's a script error? Or different build settings in Qt? Anyway, it's much bigger and untill I can't investigate why it's guessing... BTW: The PPC version works very well untill now! I have no issues at all! The code must be very well written!!! (Version 2.1)

EXORZIST btw the frameworks I'm talking about are in the app-bundle (the app I download from MacUpdate). The question is: why has the developer them included in his distribution? Have fun finding the answer :) (Version 2.1)

EXORZIST This is found in the app I downloaded from here: App-Bundle:Contents:Frameworks: ... I assume your executable is working on every machine which has QTKit installed...? (Version 2.1)

EXORZIST You are welcome. Also thanks to you for your effort. I hope it goes well. btw, in the 'how to compile.txt' is something mentioned about a FRAMEWORKS version build (OSXonly). (Version 2.1)

DOKTER_MAC Would be nice to see a PPC/Intel version in the future and not an Intel Only... Fortunately there are enough alternatives, which are Universal, for free... BTW: Thanks for this free program! I'm going to try it out on my Intel iMac ;-).
