DBAGDADI  Beware! Even though the notes on MacUpdate says that v3.0.9 is PPC and Intel compatible, after installing it I found out that it's ONLY Intel compatible (no PPC binaries)! This installer will overwrite your previous version.

The package installer Read ME states that it's only Intel compatible :(

DBAGDADI  If you look above this app's description (top of the page) the Editor notes that Picasa is still in beta. We are up to version 3.0.6 and this software is still in BETA??? Maybe that's the reason it using 90% of some user's CPU!

Hey Google, how about you guys make this app PowerPC compatible? There are still plenty of PPC Macs out there, even if Apple has already completely switched to Intel and there won't be further OS X upgrades as of OS X 10.6.

ICONZ113  Google's philosophy about their apps being in beta is meant to convey that their standard for applications is higher then other companies. Another companies stable release would be considered beta in googles eyes, thats what is meant by the beta label. Their apps really aren't in beta stages, its just their way of saying the bar is set higher at google. It has nothing to do with the stage of development.

I've never noticed Google actually claim that's what they intend "beta" to convey, though DEVONtechnologies seems to have a similar philosophy for its products with extended beta periods, like DEVONthink 2.0.

Desktoptopia
May 19 2008

DBAGDADI  This app has some really nice background pictures in it's online library.

The app, however, does have some very annoying problems. I have set this app to "Start at Login" and change images every 10 minutes. Most of the time, the app doesn't show the current image name or the rating sub-menu items. I have to stop and restart the app several times using the preference pane for it to launch properly. It's a crap shoot until it launches properly. I can navigate back and forth between backgrounds even without the name and rating menu items. However, when I click on Previous Background, the image name and rating don't get updated as it continues to show the previous image name and rating details.

Once I to stop Desktoptopia via the System Preference pane, I cannot realunch it without first relaunching the System Preferences app. Clicking on the "Start Desktoptopia" button does nothing.

I hope the developer fixes these problems and keeps expanding the image library.

DBAGDADI  Thanks for the tip!

Forgive my ignorance but:

1. What is Stealth checking?

2. How do I know what to use as the break on Dual Layer Wii images?

WOLFIENUKE  Use Apple Disk Utility to burn most Wii disc images. You can use OSx360 to burn dual-layer Wii disc images (You need to set the layer break in the configuration).

No stealth checking is required for Wii disc images.

WOLFIENUKE  Simply put, stealth checking is the process of verifying that xbox backups are valid.

The layer break for dual layer Wii disc images (notably Super Smash Bros Brawl) is 2084960, but is easily selectable in OSx360 by a drop down menu.

DBAGDADI  What do you mean by saying: "You can now use either SIMBL or PlugSuit, but don't use both at the same time."

1. I thought we needed SIMBL for AcidSearch to work? 2. I also thought you said that we need PlugSuit to get all the other InputManagers (like SIMBL) working?

Please clarify.

DBAGDADI  I can't get this to work (show up on the menubar) on my account. I'm upgraded from 10/4/10 to 10.5. I've made sure all the files are correctly installed (SIMBL, plugins, etc.). On a clean account on the same computer it works!

Any ideas if there might be a conflict with some pref or app with Safari, anyone?

MRHOOKS  Repairing permissions didn't help me. Brand new install of Leopard, and SafariStand is the only InputManager for Safari installed (the only other InputManager I have is GrowlCamino). I installed it the manual way, dropping the entire folder into ~/Library/InputManagers. I know nothing of SIMBL.

I noticed this version does not have a loader file, but I imagine that isn't the problem.

DBAGDADI  I have a Sipura box. I ran the app, entered the IP address of the Sipura device and all I get is a window every 3-5 seconds that says: "Unable to find device..."

Maybe the Sipura box is password protected by my VoIP provider and this app can't even log in?
